Rick Perry: Would Obama stand a chance against the Texas governor?
Los Angeles Times ^ | July 6, 2011 | LA Times Editorial Staff

Posted on 07/06/2011 9:20:05 PM PDT by Clairity

President Obama wouldn't stand a chance if Texas Gov. Rick Perry were to win the Republican nomination. That's Merrill Matthews' theory anyway. On the conservative website Human Events, he compares Obama to Perry in terms we can all understand.

Which brings us to the Obama vs. Perry records on the economy.

Unemployment: Then, 7.3% of Americans were unemployed and 9.1% are unemployed today.

...Yet, as this Times article demonstrates, there's no doubt Perry brings more to the table in terms of successful governing experience than anyone else seeking to challenge Obama.

I’m not sure America is willing to vote in another Texan after we saw what Bush did .....

America might hold George W. Bush's record against his own bother, Jeb, but America is not going to irrationally hold George W. Bush's record against the entire State of Texas.

Equate Rick Perry with a Bush-bot?

I don't think so.

The Bushes Hate Rick Perry: Now Everyone Knows ...... Speaking of presidents: Rick Perry has a complicated relationship with the Bushes, which is to say that he's hesitant to criticize them and they hate his guts.

You know what America is NOT willing to vote into the White House again?

Another Affirmative Action President that has no governing executive experience whatsoever.

America is NOT willing to vote into the White House another candidate that is almost brand new in Congress and has no Government executive experience whatsoever ....... but, wait! She has a Politically Correct gender! And don't forget "cute"!

America will not elect Michelle Bachmann.

America is NOT willing to vote into the White House another candidate that has no Government executive experience whatsoever (and has never even won a single election in his life) ....... but, wait! He has a Politically Correct skin color! And he was CEO of a national pizza chain!

America will not elect Herman Cain.

With Rick Perry, Governor of the second most populous State in the Union for ten and a half years, for the first time, the media is asking:

"Would Obama stand a chance against (insert name of GOP candidate here)?"

instead of

"Would (insert name of GOP candidate here) stand a chance against Obama?"

You better be careful when the democrat Media starts pushing a Republican candidate (Huntsman, Romney, Perry). There’s something fishy there. Either he’s a RINO or a sure loser.

Actually, this article is quoting, "Merrill Matthews ..... on the conservative website Human Events".

If you want to see examples of very high profile and cunning liberals "pushing a Republican candidate", try Howard Dean and Bill Clinton.

Howard Dean warns Democrats Sarah Palin could beat Obama in 2012

Why Bill Clinton Likes Michele Bachmann

I'd ask that you find a way to end No Child Left Behind. I'm from Texas and unfortunately Perry loves NCLB and brags about how it was based in part on Texas. I think removing more and more control from the local districts up to the state and federal levels are ruining a lot of districts. Perry, Romney, and other NCLB fans claim that it's a good thing that the feds got more closely involved, but when you ruin a lot of districts and schools in pursuit of fixing other districts and schools, you got it all wrong. It's exactly what I expected out of Teddy Kennedy and George W. Bush and it has been embarrassing that Perry is a supporter of it and claims Texas as a model for it. Since NCLB went into effect, I've been watching some of the local districts suffer. This idea that bureaucrats in Washington or a state capitol know what's best for local districts and schools has got to end.

Unlike Perry, I believe we could trust you not to support a guest worker program or go crazy and team up with the liberals and RINOs in Washington to build a super corridor from Mexico to Canada.

This Perry hatred here has gone beyond tolerable. He is being treated much like Giuliani was here in 2008, but the degree of the attacks has taken an extremely ugly direction.

There is one big difference between Perry in 2012 and Giuliani in 2008:

JimRob states that "even Perry would ... be (an) excellent alternative to Obama the commie".

Posted on Friday, July 01, 2011 10:13:29 AM by Jim Robinson

“We now have conservatives Bachmann and Cain officially in the race fending off RINO Romney; and Palin and Perry could possibly jump in. My hopes are with Palin, but if she decides not to run I could be happy with Bachmann or Cain. Also, if Palin does not run but Perry does, he'd probably suck all the air out of the race. Either way, Palin, Bachmann, Cain or even Perry would all be excellent alternatives to Obama the commie. Anyone but RINO Romney the big government chief architect of CommieCare! …… Posted on Friday, July 01, 2011 10:13:29 AM by Jim Robinson”

I believe that Sarah Palin has decided to stay out of the race and endorse Perry.

MAY 31, 2011 .... Palin plugs Perry: "I really like him" .... Unprompted, Sarah Palin brought up Rick Perry's name yesterday as a strong presidential candidate. "I think he would be a fine candidate.... we have a lot in common. I really like him.

Governor Sarah Palin's Endorsement of Governor Rick Perry

"That's why I am supporting Governor Rick Perry for re-election. He does what is right regardless of whether it is popular. He walks the walk of a true conservative. And he sticks to his guns – and you know how I feel about guns!" ...... Sarah Palin, January 17, 2009

After Perry declares, after Palin endorses him and after Perry "sucks all the air out of the race", the three possibilities will be:

1.) President Perry
2.) President Romney
3.) President Obama 2.0

I predict that the Politically Holier Than Thou brigades will then start with:

1.) "The lesser of three evils is still evil!"
2.) "Perry is just as bad as Obama!"
3.) "It is better if Obama gets reelected so that, in 2016, we can get a TRUE conservative that is as politically pure as I am!"

I then predict that the Perry hatred will come to a very abrupt halt.

>>America will not elect Michelle Bachmann.<<

>>America will not elect Herman Cain.<<

As decreed by Polybius

Is this now a national law? Are people now forbidden to vote for these candidates? Or is this merely your opinion which like most of us is worth less than a first class postage stamp?

If I were a reporter or editor in the MSM, I'd love to see Rick Perry run, because he has so much luggage.

If I were a liberal, I would want the GOP nomine to be any one of these:

1.) A candidate that 65% of all voters had stated that they would "definitely NOT" vote for according to a recnt Gallup Poll ----- Sarah Palin

2.) A candidate that has been in Congrees since only 2007 and does not have a single minute of executive experience. ----- Michellle Bachmann

3.) A candidate that has never won a single election in his entire life and who has not had a single minute of governing experience ----- Herman Cain.

Does Sarah Palin have political "baggage"?

You betcha!

Does Rick Perry have political "baggage"?

You betcha!

Does Barack Obama have political "baggage"?

You betcha!

Why?

Because all of them have actually governed.

Does Michelle Bachmann have political "baggage"?

No.

Does Herman Cain have political "baggage"?

No.

Do you know what you call a candidate with no baggage?

A candidate that has never actually governed for a single minute in his or her entire life.

Until somebody else that actually has a snowball's chance in Hell of beating Obama in 2012 comes along, other than RINO Romney, baggage or no baggage, Governor Perry is the only alternative to the election of RINO Romney or the reelection of Barack Hussein Obama.

May I suggest declaring that the Ten Commandment be posted on and in every public building. Further the chief executive of each building must have a copy posted where it is visible when s/he is seated at his/her desk. This will of course include the White House. Bringing Christianity back into government will do a lot for our national recovery.

I think that you are wrong about Bush and the TSA employees. The bill almost didn’t pass because of Daschles efforts to unionize the TSA. Republicans were willing to scrap the whole thing to prevent the unionization.

As a matter of fact, they didn’t even want such a large permanent force of workers. They wanted a smaller group of employees that could be either moved about as needed or hired as needed for a period of time. They never for saw the security nightmare that we have to go through at each and every airport in the country.

.

Compared to Romney, Newt, Huntsman and the rest of JOKES running for President, governor Rick Perry is a rock star.
We need somebody who can WIN this thing. That means somebody with cross-over appeal, which our Palen, Bachmann and Cain (no matter how much we love them) simply do not have.

Until 1989, Rick Perry was a conservative Democrat. He switched parties as, like many Democrats including Ronald Reagan and Phil Gramm, he saw that party moving farther and farther to the left. Under Perry’s decade as governor, hundreds of Texas Democrats have followed his lead and become Republicans. As a former Democrat, Perry can speak to that swath of his former party that has become disenchanted with their party as President Obama has taken it even farther to the left, in a way that few Republicans can. He can also speak well and credibly to all wings of the national GOP, from the fiscal cons to the social cons to the libertarian set.
He would appeal to all segments of the Republican electorate and would come armed with a record of economic success and a commitment to liberty that no other contender can match.

Texas has been voted #1 business climate for the last seven years.
Texas has been getting all of California’s jobs.
Perry must be doing something right.
We need a good business guy right now.
Perry has proved it.

.

CONSERVATIVE ICONS SUPPORT PERRY:

>Sarah Palin threw her endorsement to Rick Perry for governor.
Recently restated that she likes Perry

>Rush said that Perry is his dream candidate.

>Michael Reagan praises Perry:
“If you don’t believe Reaganomics can still work in this day and age, for whatever reason, I say you should look no further than the state of Texas.
Under the leadership of Gov. Rick Perry, Texas has championed and built upon the concepts my father used to rebuild America in the 1980s..
In short, Reagan Revolution is alive and well - deep in the heart of Texas.”

>PERRY ISSUES OBAMA A COUPLE OF BIG FUBOs:

1. “Texas to Allow Regular Incandescent Bulbs”
Reports are the governor will sign Bill HB2510 by June 19th.
Bill HB2510 allows for the manufacture and sale of incandescent light bulbs otherwise banned in federal legislation of 2007, applicable from 1 January 2012 onwards.
The legality, at least in the way the proposed law is framed, has apparently been cleared with the US Attorney General’s office.
The Bill has already passed in both House and Senate with overwhelming support.
While Texas has no current manufacture, relevant parties are being invited to restart it.
Texas has been a leading US state in providing new local jobs, and this is seen as a further contributive measure.

2.Perry Adds TSA Anti-Groping Bill to Call
http://www.texastribune.org/texas-politics/tea-party/updated-perry-adds-tsa-anti-groping-bill-to-call/ ^

Gov. Rick Perry this evening announced the addition of TSA anti-groping legislation to the agenda for the special legislative session. In a statement, he said lawmakers could consider legislation “relating to the prosecution and punishment for the offense of official oppression on those seeking access to public buildings and transportation.”

>There is no such thing as ‘Perrycare’

>Signed into law sonogram and explanation by physician before abortion

>Signed into law, photo ID ident to vote

>Perry did not apply for federal “Race to the Top” education funds because he said it would force national standards upon Texas.

>He has vetoed a record 248 bills, including dozens after the 2001 session, angering many lawmakers.

>He said last year that President Barack Obama was “hell-bent” on turning America into a socialist country.

>Won governorship of state with lots of latinos

>He used to be a Democrat. So? So did Reagan.

>The Bush’s don’t like him

>He has NEVER lost an election, including an elementary school contest for “king” of the Paint Creek School Carnival. He secured that win by handing out pennies for votes.

>Perry has degree in animal science from Texas A&M University

>He is an Eagle Scout and wrote a book about the Boy Scouts, ‘On My Honor’.
Rick Perry uses the Boy Scouts to draw a battle line in what he considers a “culture war,” defending them against the American Civil Liberties Union and what he sees as a moral struggle for the country’s future.
The book also traces a 30-year history of litigation involving the Scouts — most of which they won — which Perry considers an attack on traditional values and faith in God.

Perry targets the ACLU as the primary force behind a leftist push to accept homosexuality and challenge Scouting’s duty to God.

>Perry has a reputation for not sweating

>According to this web site Texas is #1 this year and last year for business friendly.
http://chiefexecutive.net/best-worst-states-for-business
Obama would not want not run against a governor that has the BEST business climate in the U.S. when everything else is in a depression.

>He refused to raise taxes when Texas faced a record $10 billion budget shortfall in 2003. Instead, he was the first Texas governor since World War II to sign a budget that lowered state spending (and has now done it twice). As governor, Perry has used his line item veto to cut over $3 billion in proposed spending.

>For seven years running, CEOs polled by Chief Executive magazine have rated Texas first in business development and job growth. Texas boasts 58 Fortune 500 companies — more than any other state.

>As America’s No. 1 exporting state, Texas shipped $206.6 billion in goods abroad last year, composing 16 percent of America’s $1.28 trillion in exports. California’s $14.4 billion in exports ranked it second, with 11.2 percent of U.S. outflow.

>Texas’ achievements so stunned Gavin Newsom, California’s Democratic lieutenant governor, that he flew a delegation to Austin last May to ask Perry how he lures defectors from the Golden State.

>Of the 70 companies that fled California in 2011, the Wall Street Journal’s John Fund reported last April, 14 relocated to Texas — these exiles’ primary destination.
http://www.news-herald.com/articles/2011/06/21/opinion/nh4142489.txt

>In 2005, Perry signed a historic $15.7 billion property tax cut for homeowners and businesses that also included new taxpayer protections against appraisal increases. In 2009, Gov. Perry secured a tax cut for approximately 40,000 small businesses in Texas and protected the Rainy Day Fund for future challenges.

>He led the battle to pass the country’s most sweeping lawsuit reforms, closing the door on junk lawsuits that had been making trial lawyers rich while driving countless doctors either out of the state or the profession all together. Since Texas voters approved these reforms, malpractice claims and premiums have fallen and access to healthcare is increasing across the state as doctors have applied in droves to practice in Texas.

>Perry is also known for his socially conservative views on homosexuality, and he opposes same sex marriage. He condemned the United States Supreme Court decision in Lawrence vs. Texas, which struck down a Texas sodomy law. He called the law “appropriate”

.
ABORTION:

>Perry is pro-life and opposes government funding for elective abortions. In 2005, Perry, a social conservative, signed a bill that limited late-term abortions and required girls under the age of 18 who procure abortions to notify their parents. Perry signed the bill in the gymnasium of Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Worth, an evangelical Christian school.

>Perry signed into law a bill requiring a sonogram and doctor’s explanation before granting an abortion

>In 2005, Perry signed a new law that requires minor girls to receive parental consent before getting an abortion. This law strengthens a parental notification law Perry supported as Lt. Gov. in 1999, which
helped reduce teen abortions by 26 percent.
Perry has also signed a ban on third trimester abortions, a ban on tax dollars being used to support abortion facilities, a prenatal protection act that protects
unborn children from assault, and an informed consent law that helps expectant mothers better understand the risks and consequences of abortion. Perry supports a ban on human cloning and will veto any
legislation that provides state dollars for embryonic stem cell research, a process that ends a human life.
Perry urges to keep up pressure to roll back the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion until “Roe v. Wade is nothing but a shameful footnote in our nation’s history books.

>Perry, a frequent critic of the federal government, also bashed President Barack Obama for his administration’s policy allowing federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, saying he was deeply disturbed by studies that turn “the remains of unborn children into nothing more than raw material.”

>Perry has faulted Obama for reversing the so-called “Mexico City policy” that banned giving federal money to international groups that perform abortions or provide information about abortions. Obama struck down the policy during his first week in office, saying it was too broad and undermined family planning in developing countries.
Under Obama “our federal tax dollars can now be used to fund abortion all over the world. With the stroke of a pen, abortion essentially became a U.S. foreign export,” Perry said.

.
IMMIGRATION:

>Perry adds immigration issues to lawmaker session
Perry wants passage of a measure requiring every person arrested to be run through the federal immigration databases as part of the Secure Communities program. He also wants to provide the state Department of Public Safety with the authority to make sure someone is in the U.S. legally before issuing a driver’s license.

>These measures, along with a ban on sanctuary cities, would “provide a clear message that Texas will not turn a blind eye to those breaking our laws,” Perry said in a statement.
“Texas owes it to the brave law enforcement officials, who put their lives on the line every day to protect our families and communities, to give them the discretion they need to adequately do their jobs,” Perry said.
http://www.rickperry.org/media-articles/perry-adds-immigration-issues-lawmakers-agenda-0?amp

.

WHAT have other states done?? (with the exception of AZ Ok and Ga)
What have other candidates stated that they would do?
What has Sarah stated she would do?
What is Backmann’s plan?
What did Reagan do?
President Ronald Reagan was the first president in history to grant amnesty to illegal aliens. On November 6, 1986, he signed into law the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) of 1986, [PUB L 99-603]. In so doing, he set a precedent whereby the United States would not seek to deport illegal aliens, but to reward their lawbreaking by granting them full citizenship.

NEWSFLASH! None of them are going to do much.
We have to take the best of the lot.

.

>Gov. Perry has made numerous requests of the federal govt. to enforce the border in Texas including handing President Obama a letter in person when he landed in Dallas last year.
(Obama insulted governor Perry when he turned away and Perry had to hand the letter on the illegals issue to presidential adviser Valerie Jarrett. Obama declined to personally accept it.)

>Gov. Perry refuses to meet/greet Obama in May 2011 at El Paso during his Texas tour.
Perry later declared, “If he wanted to meet, I was in Austin.

>Perry signed into law photo ID required before voting.

.

.
CHRISTIAN RELIGIOUS BELIEFS:

In what was described as a “God and country” sermon at the Cornerstone church in San Antonio, attended by Perry and other mostly Republican candidates, the Rev. John Hagee stated, “If you live your life and don’t confess your sins to God Almighty through the authority of Christ and His blood, I’m going to say this very plainly, you’re going straight to hell with a nonstop ticket.”
Perry was asked if he agreed with those comments and said, “It is my faith, and I’m a believer of that.”[39] Perry went on to say that there was nothing in the sermon that he took exception with.
Humorist and entertainer Kinky Friedman, the Jewish independent candidate for governor in the 2006 election, said, “He doesn’t think very differently from the Taliban, does he?” Carole Keeton Strayhorn disagreed with Perry’s comments, and Democrat Chris Bell said that one who is in public office should “respect people of all faiths and denominations”.
Conservatives then responded, arguing that Perry had a right to his religious beliefs, and that he was not disrespecting Americans of other religious convictions. While visiting Israel in August 2009, Perry gave an interview to the Jerusalem Post in which he affirmed his support for Israel from his religious background, “I’m a big believer that this country was given to the people of Israel a long time ago, by God, and that’s ordained.”

.

.

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES:

>Perry does not believe there is valid scientific proof of anthropogenic global warming. He has said several times that there is no scientific consensus on the issue.[69] In a September 7, 2007, speech to California Republicans, Perry said, “Virtually every day another scientist leaves the global warming bandwagon. ... But you won’t read about that in the press because they have already invested in one side of the story.”

.

.

MISC:
.

>He played quarterback on the six-man football team for the Paint Creek Pirates. He also played basketball and ran track.

>He’s a runner and triathlete.

>He is an outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and fishing.

>He plays the drums. At a January 2005 inaugural party in Washington, he played with ZZ Top in front of 2,000 people

>Perry has Romney’s looks without the other baggage.

Has hair.

PERRY TRASHING:

Anytime governor Rick Perry is mentioned, Free Republic seems to turn into something resembling Democratic Underground.
Posts regarding Perry are peppered with profanity, vulgarity and downright fabrications- the likes of which is seldom seen on Free Republic.
This is hardly in the best interests of our Conservative agenda. The Loony Left does not need any help from us in
character assassination of our Conservatives.

This Perry trashing comes from the Ron ‘truther’ Paul nuts, Debra Medina sour grapers and the resident FR Libs- and I suspect, over zealous Sarah Palin supporters and a few Bachmann supporters.
(I love Sarah and Michelle Bachmann as much as anyone else, but we MUST face reality when it comes to our beautiful Conservative ladies’ chances of winning this thing!)

Freepers, don’t you think it more sensible to trust what the Conservative icons have to say about Perry?

Don’t you think it more sensible to trust what numerous politicians and scholars have said about Rick Perry than some haters on FR?

VISIT THIS SITE

Read the official statements of dozens of Perry’s fellow politicians and scholars (both Democrats and Republicans) have had to say about Rick Perry: http://www.politico.com/arena/archive/rick-perry-for-president-in-2012.html

All (including Democrat opponents) have called him a staunch Conservative, and not one of the dozens issuing opinions has mentioned the vaccine or TTC.
Apparently they don’t consider these things an issue. They DID mention Perry threatening to secede from the unionas a strike against him.
What Perry actually said; “You know, my hope is that America and Washington in particular pays attention,” Perry continued. “We’ve got a great union. There is absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what may come out of that? So. But Texas is a very unique place and we’re a pretty independent lot to boot.”

And have these experienced Republican legislators done a damn thing to get rid of TSA since it turned out to be a wasteful boondoggle? No, not that I can see. Have they done anything to stop 90 year old Grandmas from being groped? No, not that I can see.

I swear, I do not comprehend the logic behind re-electing legislators who don’t accomplish a damn thing to keep small government.

Polybius is criticizing Cain because he has never governed or been elected to public office. IMO those are disqualifications in most cases. Cain knows how to handle money. Not spend it, earn it. That’s the kind of man I respect.

“Does Michelle Bachmann have political “baggage”?
No.”

It’s a plain fact that any conservative who runs will have muck thrown at them.

Rick’s got 10 years of governance that they can throw at him.

Michelle B has her statements and her hubby trying to get homos ‘cured’ or whatever it is he did that so offends the gay lobby. And if not that they will something else, like calling Obama anti-american is a terrible crime (but calling republicans terrorists is ok).

“Do you know what you call a candidate with no baggage?”

It was amazing that Charlie Rose/Tom Brokaw discussion where they decided that the man they were about to elect, Barack Obama, was someone they didnt really know much about.

Compared to Romney, Newt, Huntsman and the rest of JOKES running for President, governor Rick Perry is a rock star. We need somebody who can WIN this thing.

He was such a rock star that he got 39% of the vote in 2006, and in 2010 he faced Kay Bailey Hutchison in the primaries and then a Clinton crony in the general, a Clinton crony he wouldn't debate. Yeah, he's a real rock star alright and knows how to compete. You just wait until you see him in a debate with somebody other than Kay Bailey Hutchison. You'll be questioning why you ever supported Perry. And just wait until his Republican opponents drag all of his dirty laundry out on the national stage. Once people begin to see how a lot of his policies are to benefit his friends and donors, and see that all of his pro-illegal immigrant talk over the years was because of his donors, they'll turn on him.

As a former Democrat, Perry can speak to that swath of his former party that has become disenchanted with their party as President Obama has taken it even farther to the left, in a way that few Republicans can.

Yeah, Perry has 10 years worth of speeches supporting open borders and guest workers and praising LULAC and has gotten publicly angry that Congress wouldn't go easy on illegal immigrants. That is definitely going to appeal to the liberals.

Texas has been voted #1 business climate for the last seven years. Texas has been getting all of California’s jobs.

Anybody from Texas know that has nothing to do with Rick Perry and everything to do with Texas' location, natural resources, the Texas Constitution, the large number of universities, and the major industries and companies that have called Texas home for decades before Rick Perry entered politics.

And it probably helps that Texas has a lot of illegal immigrants, the one that Perry wishes could work here legally. The ones that work for his biggest donors. His biggest donors who helped kill the sanctuary cities bill a few weeks ago, the bill that was so important to Rick Perry that he called an emergency session and then later on jetted off to campaign in California while the bill was dying.

The good news is that Perry probably doesn't want to mix it up with Mitt Romney or Michelle Bachmann, not on a national scale. He and his donors weren't too happy having to deal with the Texas Republican primary last year and with a somewhat well-funded Democrat, and they sure as hell don't want Romney and Bachamnn and the others spending millions dragging his dirty laundry out onto the national stage. He'll make a lot of noise, maybe even enter briefly, but in the end he's going to go for a VP slot. His donors control him and they aren't going to waste millions fighting it out with Romney or Bachmann, not if they can work behind the scenes to get him on in the VP slot of whoever comes out on top.

I almost want to see him go all in and win just so you all can wrap your heads around Rudy Giuliani as the Attorney General. I'm sure a few can appreciate a pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, pro-gun control Attorney General. And don't think it won't happen - Perry was one of Giuliani's biggest supporters in the 2008 election, and Giuliani's lawfirm worked hard to try and bring Perry's dreams of a Trans-Texas Corridor to fruition. They are very good friends.

“Equate Rick Perry with a Bush-bot?”

Not to mention that on FR there seem to be quite a few people who prefer Obama to Bush. That should calibrate them, as to how conservative they really are.

Bush is uncacceptable, but Obama isn’t?

I think while there seem to be tensions between Bush and Perry, the media is pursuing the Dems “divide and conquer” strategy, one day talking all about the animosity between Bush and Perry, the next day they say Perry is “just like Bush”.

Does Michelle Bachmann have political “baggage”? No.”

It’s a plain fact that any conservative who runs will have muck thrown at them.

True. But personal muck is different that "political baggage".

"When I was young and strange, I dabbled in witchcraft" = Personal muck.

Governor Doe signed the XYZ Bill into law which is now unpopular = Political baggage.

Rick’s got 10 years of governance that they can throw at him.

Yep, he sure does. But that's good, ole "Experience". America does not expect perfection when you are actually the "Man in the Arena".

For example, who do you want to be the quarterback of your NFL team? Peyton Manning that has thrown 198 interceptions over the course of 13 seasons as a starting quarterback or Curtis Painter that has thrown only 2 interceptions in his entire NFL career as a do-nothing bench-warmer?

The only NFL quarterbacks that don't make mistakes in games are the do-nothing bench-warmers.

In the game of executive governing experience, Rick Perry is a Peyton Manning: A starting quarterback (Governor), for over ten years, on an elite NFL team (The State of Texas). Michele Bachmann is a cheerleader (Congress-critter) than knows all the home team cheers but has never played a single down in her entire life (No executive experience whatsoever).

Michelle B has her statements and her hubby trying to get homos ‘cured’ or whatever it is he did that so offends the gay lobby.

Well, actually, the quote was "We have to understand: Barbarians need to be educated. They need to be disciplined."

The entire mental image of barbarian gays needing to be "disciplined" is, ... ummm .... Well, let's not even go there.

Let's just say that America is looking for serious economic leadership and not freak sideshows about gay topics. It is self-destructive, personal muck.

What, to me, is even more disturbing for somebody wanting her finger on the Nuclear Button is the following quote:

====================

In a speech at a mega-church in the Minneapolis area back in 2006, Michele Bachmann explained her decision to pursue tax law:

It wasn't her choice, exactly. God had already told her to go to law school; God had also told her to marry a fellow named Marcus Bachmann. Now Marcus told her "to go and get a post-doctorate degree in tax law." This was not a particular desire of Michele's ("Tax law? I hate taxes!"), but she was certain God was speaking through her husband.

"Why should I go and do something like that?" she recalled thinking. "But the Lord says, 'Be submissive wives; you are to be submissive to your husbands.'"

====================

That is not the type of person that most American voters will want anywhere near the Nuclear Button.

Can you imagine the Saturday Night Live skit about that?

“Do you know what you call a candidate with no baggage?” ..... A liberal. All baggage checked at the door, and media cone of silence applied to all gaffes, stumbles, scandals, questionable friends, and weird items.

Yep, that's the way it is.

However, Obama's current political baggage is his utter failure. He has made the economy worse, people are scared and no amount of perfume sprayed by the liberal media can hide the stench.

Up against a candidate with solid and successful governing experience, Obama is toast in 2012.

Up against a candidate with absolutely no executive experience who believes that she must be submissive to her husband because God talks to her through him and Obama sails to an easy reelection victory.
