Freed mother set to make a fortune from media interviews... but will family take her back?

Casey Anthony has become the most vilified woman in America, condemned as a compulsive liar and heartless mother who murdered her own daughter so she could spend her life shopping and partying.

But with today's sensational not-guilty verdict, the 25-year-old could be free as early as Thursday morning to begin the slow process of rebuilding her life - and cash in on her new-found celebrity status.

There is already speculation the compelling case could be turned into a movie, and she is likely to be inundated with lucrative television and book deals worth millions of dollars.

Despite the acquittal of capital murder charges, the Casey family lawyer said it was too early to say if they would welcome Casey back.

Speaking after the verdict he said: 'The family hopes that they will be given the time by the media to reflect on this verdict and decide the best way to move forward privately.'

Although Casey smiled and broke into tears of delight as she learned she had escaped the death penalty, she is also likely to face the fear of attack from an angry public who were stunned by the jury's decision.

She will also have to confront her family, which was torn apart after her defence team dramatically accused both her father and brother of sexually abusing her.

[snip]

Countless chat shows will give her the opportunity of telling her story for the first time - an offer she seems likely to take up, after her defence team had to dissuade her from giving testimony at the trial.

And because she has been found not guilty, there is nothing to stop Anthony selling her story to the highest bidder.

Must have been a bunch of liberals on the jury, everyone knows she's guilty, except 12 people and unfortunately, they were on the jury!!!

You're correct, the juries are Liberals, and the rest of us know better.

We need to abandon Jury Trials, and instead let "everyone" determine guilt or innocence.

If only Casey had been subjected to an Internet poll to determine her guilt, she would be hanging today or at least rotting in prison for the rest of her life.

I agree but it does show the flaw in the system.

I have to disagree, you say it's a flaw because in this case the outcome was one which you do not agree with.

That doesn't constitute a flaw it's, and I don't mean to be flippant, just the way the ball bounces sometimes.

Over the long run, the system works and the best one there is.

IMO, because it doesn't go your way or the way of poplar opinion, you don't react by making the system draconian just to fit your desires...after all, isn't that tyranny?

Believe me, I understand the emotion attached to this case and I want the person who is ultimately responsible to be held to account, but we can't start changing the system just because the person who many think is responsible couldn't have the case proved against her.

Tim Miller of Texas Equisearch was on TV nite before the verdict & he's a great guy, one you can believe in. He said after 4 days in that house with the Anthony's, he washed his hands of them & pulled his people out! Said they all need to be in Hollywood they are all such good actors, they are all liars & he said they all KNEW she was dead when he was there, trying to find an ALIVE child!!

I had not heard that. Tim is a damn saint. As are Bob and Gay Smithers with the Laura Recovery Center that is based in Texas.

Very interesting. Thanks!

Can someone please explain to me all the hatred for her entire family? There are so many people saying bad things about all of them as if they are all guilty of abusing and killing Caylee.

My opinion of Cindy and George Anthony is that they are guilty of loving their children and grandchild, perhaps to the point of spoiling them. Both Lee and Casey are handsome people, so I can imagine their parents were a bit indulgent, as were many baby boomer parents. But, that does not make them bad people. I have not actually heard anything bad about Lee other than the charge that he groped his sister when he was younger - used as an excuse for Casey’s pathological lying.

I have utmost sympathy for George, Cindy, and Lee. They will never be able to recover from Casey’s behavior, her narcissism, her selfishness with her killing of Caylee, etc. It seems clear to me that the family reluctantly came to believe that Caylee was indeed killed by her mother, a fact that must have torn them into pieces emotionally. I hope they get some spiritual couseling.

I hope people lay off describing the entire family as dysfunctional, when Casey is clearly a “bad seed”. May God have mercy upon them and send them some comfort.

This is just my two cents worth. Am I alone?

I disagree with you, it is a flaw. When you gather a group of random people who have no law training and or lack critical thinking skills you never know what you are going to get. I am not asking for the system to be changed as I agree that it is a protection against the tyranny of the government. Criminals walk free every day because of jury nullification. I remember about 4 years ago when the Boston D.A. lost three easy murder convictions in one month. Those murderers were released back into the neighborhoods and committed more crimes. This case just amplifies the problem with the jury system. We have heard from the alternate juror who proves my point. When other jurors come forward I won't be shocked as to their thought process. Politicians know that the general public is stupid, just look at their campaign advertisements. The law doesn't allow the prosecutor to say outlandish things like “the father did it and made the accident look like a murder”. Only the defense can get away with unethical behavior. I don't know how to fix the flaw but it is there.

Having watched most of the trial after following the story for three years, I largely agree with you! Cindy lied in testimony to save her daughter from the death penalty! George and Lee were conflicted all along...suspecting Casey of the worst but struggling to keep up appearances. But it is hard to continue support for someone who will turn on anyone to save her own skin...George and lee the molesters and Cindy who left the ladder up. Kronk who stole the body etc, etc. And of course all those uninterested witnesses and dogs who lied!! Cindy, George and Lee are victims...and they get to watch Casey profit from her own daughter’s murder!!

"Regardless of exactly how the money was spent, taxpayers will now pay for Casey's experts, investigators, and other costs, which her new lawyer J. Cheney Mason said Thursday could amount to about $200,000. The cost of her lawyers, all of whom appear to currently be working for free, is not covered under this order."

Evidently her lawyers were working for free in at least some capacity. Taxpayer money only covered peripheral expenses. But this article is over a year old. I wonder how it's all gonna turn out.

“I have been called to jury duty about 8 times but have never served. I am an electrical engineer and a lawyer told me that is the reason I never get picked.”...........

How true! I’ve been told that no one who has any medical background is usually excluded from juries, as well as anyone who has a connection with an insurance company, even if it is only an in-law! People who are in professions that require knowledge, common sense, and logic are not good on juries from the defense’s point-of-view.

You make a compelling argument, I agree with much of what you wrote.

I just think that our system, though not perfect, is the most balanced one there is. I think when you start considering tweaking it to favor one side or the other is a mistake.

I certainly do not want it to favor the Government any more than it already does...they have all the money.....and yet they still couldn't successfully prosecute this case.

In my view, the prosecution in this case went for charges they could not prove.

I think if you want to reform the system, we should start by getting politics out of it.

Prosecutors are judged and elected on conviction rates and have to justify their budgets, therefore the truth goes out the window when convictions are the goal

When you have mass media coverage, sensationalism and world attention, egos become the focus and not the truth. (the word verdict means to say the truth)

The accused should remain anonymous and no cameras in the court rooms would be a good start.
