Pilots refuse to fly Independence Day atheist banners
by John Jalsevac
July 4, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) An atheist organization that sought to celebrate Independence Day by flying banners promoting atheism all across the United States nearly ran into a major snag most of the pilots working for the advertizing company refused to fly the banners.
USA Today reports that 4 out of 5 pilots working for Fly Signs Aerial Advertising refused to participate in the campaign, which involved banners saying, God-less America, and Atheism is patriotic.
Only 17 of the companys 85 pilots agreed to participate.
USA Today quotes one of the pilots, Red Calvert, saying, I respect our country and I respect our churches and weve got enough problems in our country without stirring up some more. If those people want to do something they believe in, fine, just dont include me.
The $23,000 campaign is a project of the group American Atheists.
Dave Silverman, president of American Atheists, said the pilots refusal stems from Americans bigotry. This is a clear reminder of why we need to keep fighting because the bigotry against us is so thick that a lot of the pilots are afraid to fly our banners, he said, according to CNN.

LOL!! Good one!
They aren’t AFRAID to fly anything. It is just the current trend, isn’t it, when we oppose something we are “AFRAID” of it. Like “homophobia.”
I don’t fear atheists or homosexuals. I oppose their agenda.
I believe you're wrong about that. In Article Six of the Constitution, the Founders specifically prohibited religious tests for public office. Excluding atheists from all aspects of Constitutional government would clearly be a religious test, and thus would clearly violate the constitution.
I don't think many atheists are losers, I just think they are misguided, or better, unguided.
I agree.
I believe it is common for some people to join the military without a strong belief in God but leave the military strongly believing that God exists.
My favorite story is that of the Passenger ship Titanic. The owners of the ship boasted before the Maiden Voyage that "God himself could not sink the Titanic!"
In a sense, an iceberg is an act of God -- in terms of its creation and where it might be...
One thing for sure we won’t be seeing or associating with the Atheist when God comes for us..you could also say Muslims and Communist like Obama will be left behind too..
Non-Christians should have the right to refuse business transactions involving pro-Christian messages.
They can call it bigotry if they like. I simply call it freedom.
“Anytime the wing is moving faster than the fuselage it has to be unsafe.”
Ooooo, oooo! A fixed-wing bigot. I’ll bet you hate exhaust fans too. Bigot!
(Just joshin’ ya. Sorry, couldn’t resist...)
Perhaps not in this case - YET.
But thye have done so in the past and my suspicion is that the ACLU is preparing a suit as we speak.
There's that 20% again.
Since these things have been measured, liberals only make up about 20% of the US population. What's interesting, is that in story after story, on issue after issue, we find that the percentage of people who oppose any good, righteous, or common sense thing, come out to about 20%.
Interesting, eh?
“the wing is flying faster than the fuselage”
Heh, heh, as a helicopter pilot (US Army retired) I’d never thought of that, although I will say that the further away from the main rotor the faster the rotor speed until at the rotor tips the velocity is actually supersonic. This is why when a UH-H “Huey” is approaching you, it sounds like a machine gun. That’s the sonic boom or “tip snap” of the rotors.
As to unsafe, well it’s true a helicopter requires the pilot’s constant attention. No set it and forget it to be sure. But in landing, a helicopter decelerates to a complete stop. And it is reassuring to be able to autorotate to a small forced landing area and touch down with no velocity remaining.
Anyway, the pilots were completely within their rights to not only refuse to tow banners with an atheistic (which really means anti-theistic) message, but to express their disgust at it as well.
“...my suspicion is that the ACLU is preparing a suit as we speak.”
Probably, but I heard the Waaahmbulance drivers are refusing to pick up whining Libtards.
The delay may be to allow the American Communist Lawyers Union to amend their suit to include Waaahmbulance drivers.
1. Pilots must insure that all surly bonds have been slipped entirely before aircraft taxi or flight is attempted...
...snip...
16. Pilots and passengers are reminded that opening doors or windows in order to touch the face of God may result in loss of cabin pressure."
LOL!!
Exactly!
(what the heck...as superstitious as sailors are, even a sailor who didn’t believe in God would think twice about making a statement like that.
Must have been management...
heh...YET!
Were Silverman a pilot would he tow a GOD IS GREAT banner aloft?
Atheism IS “patriotic”...
if your country that you’re being patriotic to is a communist country.
Switch seats.
That’s not how it works.
Hypocrites, the whole bunch. Their hatred of religion has become a religion in itself.
The head of the company was on the Titanic when it went down.
He did not feel he had to stay on the ship like the other men -- instead, he got in a lifeboat -- which was not appropriate...
