LONDON — Passers-by at the American Embassy, in the heart of London’s upscale Mayfair district, were greeted Monday morning by the disembodied voice of Ronald Reagan drifting through the air from large speakers — a prelude to the unveiling of a $1 million bronze statue of the former president here to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth.

Returning the Churchill bust was the lowest-class thing ANY US President (I capitalize the office, not the current resident) has ever done.

Except, maybe, presenting a gift of a $150 iPod preloaded with the zero’s music and a handful of Region 1 DVDs.

Obama hasn’t one ounce of class.

If he didn’t want to look at Churchill he could have put it away until his term ended.

An arrogant,ignorant,rude a**.

>>Wonder how long before the first Brit jihadis chops the head off?<<

The outcome of that would be:

1) it just wouldn’t come off, no matter what 1st century tools the jihadis use; or
2) it would come off and smash and kill the jihadi

The World stage has NO respect for the US democrat. The world knows a democrat in the drivers seat means big problems for freedom, liberty, their currency, and law and order. Chavez, Castro, Im a nut job, Clinton, Obama, Dear Leader, the muzzie brother hood. and your local teacher union rep. Love a democrat

I quoted that Reagan saying to my boss who is a flaming Democrat. His lips were drawn into a thin line when he heard me say that. He refused to change his ways, still a Democrat to this day. SAD!

A troubling trend in Repub establishment is that they heap praises on Reagan who is no longer in this world. On the other hand, they do their best to undermine Reagan legacy at every opportunity. In essence, they try to push conservatism into the memory of the past along with Reagan.
I wonder how they reacted to Reagan if he were still alive and active as a former President. Probably not well whenever he points out problems with current Repubs.

President Ronald Reagan and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Modern era conservative heroes. We'll not soon see their like again.

were greeted Monday morning by the disembodied voice of Ronald Reagan

Typical NYT, trying to make it as creepy & unappealing as possible ... they had to say "disembodied voice" rather than simply "a recording". /rolleyes

The NYT hated Reagan and still does. Never bothered him though, he just made jokes at their expense.

Pray for America

As much as I despise President Narcissus and have shredded him for returning the Churchill bust, I thought I read somewhere that it was on loan anyway... Can anyone confirm?

This is one source, but how good is it? Was it Obutthole’s option to “extend the loan or not?

http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100308123932AAL9Yqx

He gave it to the British Embassy in Washington. It was not a gift, it was on LOAN from the British government until 2009.

A British Embassy spokesman said: “The bust of Sir Winston Churchill by Sir Jacob Epstein was uniquely lent to a foreign head of state, President George W Bush, from the Government Art Collection in the wake of 9/11 as a signal of the strong transatlantic relationship.

“It was lent for the first term of office of President Bush. When the President was elected for his second and final term, the loan was extended until January 2009.

“The new President has decided not to continue this loan and the bust has now been returned. It is on display at the Ambassador’s Residence.”
