Never mind that the Founders were among the earliest leaders to oppose slavery as a worldwide institution or that voting was done by household.

Ahistorical historians like to apply today’s standards to the past. Slavery was an institution throughout the British and French Empires, in Africa, and in the Muslim world.

This appears to be an ongoing theme generated by the combination of the White House and the Soros Left: Let’s not “fetishize” the Constitution, the Founders were fallible, they owned slaves, etc. etc. etc.

It’s setting up, I imagine, some sort of direct assault on the Constitution.

Through the Declaration of Independence, the Founders gave us the United States of America and the Framers gave us the US Constitution. Based on 5,000 of recorded human history, I'd call that a damn good record of accomplishment.

IOW, the Founders and Framers advanced freedom for all people, and the tools to make this land of liberty even better, if we so desire.

This is such BS, and why I don’t watch this crap anymore.

I cannot look into the minds of the founding fathers, so I really don’t know what their options were. I guess we could have remained colonies...or formed multiple countries like Europe, just to go to war with each other...or maybe we put up with slavery, but include institutions (like the Constitution) that will permit it to be dismantled when the country is ready to dismantle it.

In any case, I’m still hard-pressed to find a country with a cleaner history than our own.

Once again we have “Revisionists” trying to put today's realities back in another time's contexts. It is just not possible to do so.
That asinine statement by a Historian like Brinkley shows just how disingenuous he really is. Brinkley making that statement then loses any real credibility as a serious historian in my book.

Democrats and Republicans quote from the Founding Fathers, but we shouldn't act like they were somehow omnipotent.

Never in my life have I heard or read anyone claiming the FF were omnipotent. This statement doesn't make sense. It doesn't even work as a red herring. Too stupid.

And if it weren't for the Constitution they wrote there might still be slavery and no rights for women. But I suppose they could have formed a monarchy or some other totalitarian system and forced everyone at the point of a gun to free the slaves and treat women as equals.

Good God Almighty! these liberals are idiots of the first degree.

ABC= All ‘Bout Communism

In 1776, no country on earth allowed women the right to vote; in fact, almost no country allowed most men to vote. 90% of the population of Russia was still living as serfs, in fact. And they were not much better than slaves- they could be bought and sold. And as far as our Founders not abolishing slavery- they had to compromise on it, in order to get the Constitution adopted. They had to deal with the reality that it already existed. (Which illustrates the huge difference in right and left wing thought- the left lives in a fantasyland where reality can be altered completely; right wing folk tend to live within the bounds of reality.) Condemning the Founders for living within what was possible at that time is both foolish and misleading- they did the best anyone could have done under the circumstances at the time.

Statement: "ABC's 'This Week': Founding Fathers Were 'Guys Who Didn't Give Women the Vote and Let Slavery Stand'"

Response: Yes, it is true the Founders excluded women and slaves from the language of the original documents. However, it has been noted that "ALL GREAT PEOPLE ARE EXCLUSIVE"-A Great Historian 1888

The Ancient Greek, The Roman, The Prussian and The American while growing and expanding were exclusive to the point of brutality.

A reasonable argument that a society that is Tolerant, Inclusive and diverse has seen better days. Human life if it would be great is hard!

As long as we’re dissing the Founders and their ideas (and the US Constitution by association), let’s go all in, throw that “freedom of the press” idea on the trash pile and go pay ABC a visit. Ya think they’d be onboard with that?

Democrats and Republicans quote from the Founding Fathers

Democrats rarely if ever quote the Founding Fathers. Most of them are loathe to try it and when they do they misquote, take out of context and don't understand what they are quoting.

What these foolish commentators seem to forget is that the qualifications of voters were left to the states.
And if the Founders had insisted on the abolition of slavery, the US would not exist as a country, as no mechanism existed to force the slave states to ratify the Constitution and enter the union.
