Taipei, July 2 (CNA) A birth certificate showing that the Republic of China's (ROC) founding father was born in the United States will be put on display July 4 in Taipei, said the America Institute in Taiwan (AIT) on Saturday.

The historical document, issued on March 14, 1904, indicated that Sun Yat-sen was born on Oahu Island, Hawaii, on Nov. 24, 1870.

It enabled him to travel from Hawaii on April 7, 1904, to San Francisco as a U.S. citizen while the Qing Dynasty issued a warrant for his arrest for attempting to overthrow the government.

The birth certificate, obtained from the U.S. Immigration Office, will be a copy of the original file, said Sheila Paskman, spokesperson for AIT, which represents U.S. interests in Taiwan in the absence of formal diplomatic ties.

Asked whether this is the first time the document was revealed, Paskman said no and that "it has been around for a while."

The islands were the sovereign Kingdom of Hawaii in 1870. Weird.

Not many people know that Lenin and Stalin were born in Hawaii too; I think you can see their long forms in Red Square, Tiananmen Square or 1600 Pennsylvania Ave (I can’t remember which).

Hope they get permission from all living relatives since we know how heavily guarded birth certificates are from public viewing. /s

Good point. Were his parents both US citizens born in other US states. Being born in the Kingdom of Hawaii wouldn't make him a citizen of the US would it?

Hawaii still wasn't a state at this time so how could he be traveling as a US citizen?

Yeah, and I wonder if it needs to be photoshopped also.

The birth certificate in question contradicted the generally accepted fact among historians that Sun was born on Nov. 12, 1866 in Cuiheng Village, Xiangshan County, in China’s Guangdong Province.

Many believe Sun’s friends helped him secured the fake birth certificate to facilitate his pursuit of U.S. citizenship, which they felt was a necessary asset in Sun’s promotion of his revolutionary work in China.

Regarding the fake document controversy, Paskman said that U.S. officials at the time held immigration hearings on Sun’s case. Documents from that hearing will also be displayed, allowing the public to judge authenticity for themselves.

The special exhibition, held to celebrate U.S. Independence Day and the ROC’s centenary, will take place at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall from July 4 through July 30.

Birth records of adoptees are sealed.

In the United States, most birth records of adoptees were sealed upon finalization of their adoption, leaving the name(s) of the birthmother and, if listed, the birthfathers identity unknown to the adoptee or any other person who is looking for said information.

How did this happen and for what reason? The sealing of adoption records dates back to the mid 1900’s, when adoptions took on the stigmatism that some things should not be disclosed and should be kept secret, therefore instituting this act of confidentiality now known as a sealed adoption record’s. By 1943, more than half of the states in the United States had enacted some kind of provision sealing adoption records permanently.

As of today, there are very few states that do not seal adoption records and/or allow adoptees access to their original birth certificate after completing an application for access. In most states, however, adoptees or people whom adoptees have hired to help them find identifying information, have to search and spend time, money and tireless emotions hoping to receive information in regards to their birth family’s identity.

LOL! No.

If you look at the post from PeaceBeWithYou, you'll see that the document never says he is, either.

Journalists from China obviously don't understand the different legal nuances between a territory and a State......but then again, the journalists over here can't either.

The sealed files generally applied to protecting the identity of both the birth mother and father, when the child was put up for adoption to other people (plural). In Obama’s case they wouldn’t or shouldn’t have been sealed since the mother didn’t give him up for adoption, her second husband merely adopted him to give him his name.

In other words, SUN got his U.S. BC through the same 'scam' in Hawaii that Obama did. And probably about the same time.
