Minnesota state government goes into shutdown as budget talks end without deal on $5B deficit.
Talks between Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton and top Republicans fell apart well before a midnight deadline. Dayton demanded tax increases on top earners, but the GOP refused.

Not everybody who gets government assistance is a ‘bum, deadbeat, or parasite.’ It doesn’t help our cause to speak as if they all are. There truly are people who warrant charity being in need at no fault of their own; it’s just that we shouldn’t be using an armed monopolist government agency to dispense said “charity” by means of coercion.
You are correct. Point in case. My family. My wife gets child support from her ex. We got a letter last week that says the state will still collect it from his check, but WILL NOT send it to us during the shut down. This is all done electronically. Employer zaps it to the state with a computer, states computer deducts their “service” fee (2 bucks I think it is) and zaps it to our checking account. Unless someone turned the zap it out software this computer could hum along on it’s own as long as the lights are on.
My wife is Type 1, We are self employed. After trying everything to get a private policy and being turned down by everyone we went with the states high risk insurance plan (that we pay though the nose for)
That coverage was suppose to end during the shut down too.
There are MANY things Dayton could have done to keep things going. including signaling he would sign a continuing resolution keeping funding levels at the same as they where. Dayton wanted this shut down so people would notice. Dayton owns it. It’s up to the GPO to make sure the voters know it.
I have already decided to move my business back to Texas as of end of August. Business here is dead. With the threat of higher taxes, more regulation, it is not just impacting me, but also my clients in Minnesota. Lots of inquiries, but the projects are on indefinite hold, shelved, or just cancelled due to economic uncertainty. If it wasn’t for the added uncertainty of Wesley Mouch in Washington, I can see more Minnesota businesses moving to South Dakota, North Dakota, and even Wisconsin.
Crazy Eyes Dayton has brought this on himself. As a previous poster pointed out, he has had a balanced budget on his desk for two months. Instead of being an adult, he throws a temper tantrum (but what else do you expect from a Minnestoopid liberal. Minnestoopid liberals even think that vandalism is a valid form of political speech.)
Minnesota, you can go to Hell, and I am going to Texas.
If the Repubs have passed a budget and the Governor has vetoed it, the shutdown is on his head, period.
They did, he did. Dayton owns it.
2 tax systems!!- you missed the Boat!!
WE do have 2 tax systems- Al Franken,Geither,
Obama’s aunt,(on the dole in Mass) Harry Reid,
Pelosi- have all- either NOT paid there Taxes- or
passed legislation for their family to get tax breaks.
This is the current talking point for the demons- “the
rich are not paying their fair share”-
My stupid inlaws fall for this all the time- so ...
I have built a list -Starting with the weasel Al Franken
who did NOT pay taxes in Dozens of states- Then Dayton
who has a trust account where he makes OVER $700K per year
(that’s right - no job but MAKES that much EVERY YEAR!
he ONLY paid 25% taxes- why did he get off so low-
I can go on and on and on The Demons can be defeated
when you show their lies and Hypocrisy.
I have already decided to move my business back to Texas as of end of August.
I’ve thought about it to. However my business is a service. I can’t e-mail/fax my work back to my clients in Minnesota. I have to actually go to their site and preform the work.
Once my war chest is large enough I might move to Texas. But I would have to start over trying to get new clients.
However, what is really looking good to me is moving to Hudson WI. Its a little bit further of a drive to my current service area but the political/tax climate on the east side of the boarder is MUCH better.
Exactly, this is a pilot run directed by the Obama White House.
This is why it is essential that taxpayers raise Hell with Dayton.
thanks for the link,,, everyone ,even those elected to government , should read it.
Whoa there! You missed the joke. :)
All Right! SHUT IT DOWN!!!
Self-employed here in MN.. Have been talking for a long time now about moving out of this socialist state. After the last election, with the republicans taking over both houses, I thought maybe there may be a chance ---- but not with good old dayton.
Hubby is finally seeing the light --- he loves MN (we both do as we were born & raised here). But enough is enough. We pay way too much taxes already --- and most of it goes to social services (i.e. welfare).
Hey people, you want easy welfare, come on over to Minnesota ---- we've got you covered !!!
glad you clarified-
But, dealing with the inlaws- and the dummies
up here in minnnesnowta I was not sure...
2nd talking point of the demonrats- “the rich
live under a different tax system”-meaning- we need
to go after ALL buisnesses that are independant.
Digging his heals in and shutting the government down over that tax increase when he got almost all of his spending makes no sense at all.
We also have the Governor's mental health to consider and I'm not trying to joke or make light of his condition. There is genuine concern from some that deal with him on a daily basis.
Good observations Pinta!

They nail him in the video. They play his words from a debate over and over again “No I would not shut government down”
South Dakota pays no income tax. They are right next door.
Tax the poor. They are a large untapped reservoir
And the bad news is......? Every day that gubermint is shut down is a good day for the folks. Think of the money saved on congressional snacks and lunches and toilet paper alone!
The governor needs to do the RIGHT thing for a change. Oh...he’s a DIM-wit...never mind....that’s an oxymoron in his case....
Not a single non-partisan study shows that states with higher marginal tax rates on wealthy people drive any businesses or rich folks away in numbers appreciable enough to cause any economic fallout. In fact, Minnesota is, and has been, one of the most prosperous and economically stable states in the Union not despite, but because of its high level of government services and a much higher income tax rate than those low tax Red States that, despite your bogus beliefs, suck up more federal money than Minnesota. You simply dont know what you are talking about and, I suspect, are beyond the reach of rationale discourse. The citizens of Minnesota do not want to live in, or like, the citizens of Mississippi or Virginia, for that matter. The GOP opposition to spending is entirely political in motivation. During the Bush disaster, the party had no trouble at all backing unpaid for wars, tax cuts, and a Medicare prescription program that is little more than a huge giveaway of public monies to Big Pharma. The hypocrisy, deceit, and sheer nastiness of the GOP disloyal opposition is as patent as your own ignorance-Richard Broderick · Research Fellow at Thai Khadi Institute

Unfortunately the libturd judge who singlehandely edicted what services are to be paid and what services are to shut down, of course included all the socialist welfare nanny payments (food stamps, welfare, low-income this, that, etc, payments to schools & thug teacher unions, etc) all were to continue on track. However the half-concluded road repairs & bridges, were shut down, and other services that should have remained open. Give me a break.... how expensive is it too keep roadside reststops or parks open? But the libturds always want tocut essential services but keep the welfare nanny state & school unions fully funded.
In any case, I hope this whole socialist comie pig demoRAT state of MN stays shut down... and yes, I live in MN. I think the demoRATs will blink first & capitulate if the Repubs remain committed to their no-new-taxes pledge.

only in goobermint does it cost more to shut down than stay open...must be a union thing.
