If you want good food at a good price rule #1 is avoid the big name chains. There are exceptions to the rule of course, but by and large local guys will give you better food, better service, and better prices. Might be tougher in tourist land of course where most of the local joints are about sheering the sheep, but that’s what life off the beaten path is all about. Even in non-tourist land off the beaten path is where the good stuff is.

We have local restaurants that serve good food that don’t cater to touristas, too. They are “home cooking” types, aka “comfort food” and some nuevo cuisine types that I don’t care for............
