Following bankruptcy filings by Sbarro, Perkins and Marie Callenders this year, new data suggests that other popular restaurant chains are in danger of following suit.
TheStreet.com recently looked at restaurants based on their Altman Z-Score. The website says the score is based on several aspects of a company's financial health -- including working capital, total assets, total liabilities, market capitalization, sales, retained earnings and earnings before interest & taxes (EBIT) -- to forecast the probability of it going bankrupt within two years.
Since it began the scoring system in 1968, TheStreet says the formula has been 72 percent accurate in predicting corporate bankruptcies two years prior to the filing.
The list of restaurant in order of most at risk to file for bankruptcy (limited to those with a market capitalization of $100 million):
1. Dennys 2. Wendys/Arbys 3. Mortons Restaurant Group 4. DineEquity (IHOP, Applebees) 5. Dominos Pizza 6. Bravo Brio Restaurant Group 7. McCormick & Schmicks 8. Ruths Hospitality Group (Ruths Chris Steak House, Mitchells Fish Market) 9. OCharleys 10. Einstein Noah Restaurant Group
We have Norms restaurants, IHOP few block from local Dennys
I am surprise about Marie Callenders I didn’t know that
I gave up on listening or watching Hannity when he threw Corsi and the birth certificate issue under the bus.
No more Hannity.
Jamocha milkshake. YUM
There was a review of a Mexican restaurant around here where the reviewer complained that they’d been told the place served “authentic” Mexican food but that the floors were dirty and the plates were greasy.
I replied, “well, you SAID you wanted authentic Mexican food. What are you complaining about?”
Arbie’s medium with Arbies sauce on the top of the bun and horsey sauce on the bottom of the bun....... yummm!
Small is not enough, large is too big. Cheese ruins the taste of the beef
Yeah, but it's fun to post that. I know about the jobs are going to China, but there have been more business close since the won took office.
Hubby is in his late 50s but still works part time as a waiter so we can survive, especially since I was laid off last year. He works at a high-end steak house which is located in a local casino and apparently they still have a good stream of customers...but it’s scary to think what our lives would be like without that job.

“Ironic, since in April literally 60,000 of the new jobs created were McJobs.”
I heard that was out of more than 900,000 applications. What does that say about Barack’s recovery?
I’ll be right over. :)
Is Bill Knapps still in business?
That was kind of a staple of middle class dining when I was up there in the early 70s.
the article says Perkins is bankrupt.
Maybe we need to find a new place for FReeper lunch : )
They reaped what they sowed!
For a long time Wendy’s was the high end adult burger...price competitive with Mickey D’s and Burger King but fresher and better.
Now there’s Culver’s, Johnny Rocket’s, and Sonic...all better and less costly than Wendy’s...they are being squeezed.
I bet you guys eat well. I lived 3 houses down from Berns in Tampa as a kid. One of the head waiters was a pal and I remember hanging out in the kitchen drinking 3k bottles of wine with the old man. The place I used to live is now one of the wine cellars for the collection.
Terms never used in MSM since 2008:
McJobs
Recovery for Wall $treet but not Main Street
Homeless problem
They’ve been gone a long time. Some grocery stores sell their baked goods, like rolls, cakes and donuts.
My husband’s cousin has a fancy Thai resturant in L.A. and they are just breaking even, the only reason they stay open is because so many in his girlfriend’s family work there so there is still good coming out of it.
They opened a cheap Thai resturant and they are making a killing on that
If IHOP and Denny’s close where will people go for late night fights?
The O’Charley’s company used to own other chains but got rid of them years ago to refocus. Surprised to hear they could be in trouble.
Their headquarters is in south Nashville, TN.
LOL!
You knew which one I was talking about!
