In her new tell-all memoir, Bristol Palin, daughter of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, talks about her life and her loves. And apparently the 20-year-old has no love lost with Middletown.
Palins autobiography, Not Afraid of Life: My Journey So Far, hit stores June 21. In the book, she dishes on everything from her early brushes with sex and alcohol to her on-again, off-again relationship with the father of her child, Levi Johnston and her drama with Meghan McCain, daughter of former presidential candidate Sen. John McCain.
But tucked amidst those revelations are a few jabs at the town of Middleton the book misspells the citys name where she first discovered her mother would become McCains running mate.
In her book, the younger Palin said she also discovered something else while staying at the 89-year-old Manchester Inn hotel downtown: cockroaches.
The raggedy old hotel had dated furniture, small rooms, ugly pink walls, and an abundant supply of cockroaches, she wrote. Id never even seen a cockroach before. Reporters might not think Wasilla is the prettiest town in the world, but at least we dont have roaches.
Like mother, like daughter
The Palins came to Middletown in 2008 just before McCain made an announcement at the Ervin J. Nutter Center in Dayton that Sarah Palin would be his running mate.
A few weeks after their stay in Middletown, Nicolle Wallace, a McCain-Palin aide, told reporters that the Manchester Inn was too unposh for then-Alaska Gov. Palin, her family and their staff to spend one night in.

What a relief — I thought she had issues with the Duchess of Cambridge.
oh boy...more tabloid Palin-Palooza
Evidently the Manchester Inn closed not long after. I would guess that it was probably going downhill and deteriorating, although it advertised itself as “posh.”
I don’t suppose it would have closed down if it hadn’t been failing. And failing enterprises usually decay, and even start accumulating cockroaches. I wouldn’t be too happy about the cockroaches either, after reading that this was supposed to be a deluxe hotel and conference center.
Article on the closing:
The question is would Moochelle stay one night there. Or Hillary.
Roaches are my frans.
Ugly inside and out. As if Bristol is not suppose to have an opinion. I don't like cockroaches in my hotel room either.
Ahhhh Nicole Wallace spewed more "gems". Those people certainly tried very hard to get McCain defeated. They certainly didn't expect Palin to be popular, did they.
Found this too:
Manchester Inn closure an end of era for some, new beginning for others - January 4, 2011
Cincinnati State plans to restore the hotel to its historical grandeur
its estimated the renovations will cost about $6.5 million.
In other words, it's old and decrepit. Another article dated Jun. 28, 2011 says it may not be renovated because of the cost.
Yeah that’s a relief since I like Kate Middleton..Hey at least Bristol knows how old her kid is..unlike Obama who can’t tell the difference between a 12 year old and a 13 year old
This place has bedbugs, roches, and poor service. I will never go back there again.

crazy-bad hotel & service

they advertise “coffee makers in all rooms”....maybe they should consider supplying coffee, too. i could not get any coffee from them...they “ran out” early in the week.
the pillows on our bed were so thin, that even doubling them up would not help. could i get more from the front desk? no, they were expecting a convention the next night and could not “borrow” from another room. several of my friends checked in the next night an actually had NO PILLOWS in their room at all.
the non-smoking room reeked of smoke, the bed linens and bedspread, threadbare chair and peeling wallpaper were all discolored from nicotine stains.
a “no smoking” room only exists if the people in the room next to yours do not spend their entire stay in their bathroom smoking. the shower stalls in the bathroom (original bathroom cut in half, no bath tub, only a small shower) have a shared vent in the ceiling. so when your neighbors spend their time complaining about how they couldn’t get a smoking room so they are forced to smoke in the bathroom, this causes YOUR room to fill with smoke and their complaints.....disgusting!
could the hotel do anything about the smoking neighbors? they said they would waive the $500 charge for the “smoking in a non-smoking room” charge for OUR room. NICE. said they couldn’t PROVE the neighbors were smoking and refused to check, even by visiting our room.
we were awakened at 2:30 in the morning with the maid vacuuming the room next to ours, i had to get dressed and go to the next room and demand that she stop. i’m not making this up, you can’t make stuff like this up.
don’t eat at the hotel buffet, one of my friends spent the day of the conference in bed from food poisoning. the hamburgers and roast beef (it’s certainly not PRIME rib, more like CHOICE rib...) leave a lot to be desired.
and the “free breakfast” in the morning consists of left-over congealed cinnamon bread from the dining room the night before.
don’t be tempted by the cheap price of this hotel unless you are willing to forgo a lot of luxuries in the your hotel stay, like pillows, coffee, a non-smoking room, a heater that works, prompt maid service, food that won’t poison you.....the list goes on.
stay anywhere but here.
It is a book, and it mentions a dumpy hotel that was not long after, closed for being decrepit, the tabloid is in your head.
you get what you pay for

Granted, the price was cheap and you get what you pay for. rooms are way outdated. Bathrooms really needed to be redone. Bring your own iron! The ones they provide are like 20 years old! Service wasn’t good. Our tv was broke so when we switched rooms, the new room only had a shower. we had specifically asked for a bath since we had a toddler. Definitely would not stay here again.
forget the wi-fi....was way slower. Reminded me of dial up.
You get what you pay for, and nothing more...

Check in and checkout was a breeze. Staff was very nice and good wireless internet... But the rooms were so outdated. TV was very small, A/C - Heat was laughable for lack of a better word. Bathroom was gross and needed a makeover (Cracks in ceiling, old worn-out toilet) and the “hot” water was a luke-warm, horrible. . The restaurant was closed, and there was no food within walking distance. They did give out free passes to the YMCA, but it wasn’t much of an escape.
Next time I have a conference there, I will stay at a newer hotel and drive.
Sounds like a wonderful place! LOL
This happened to me at the airport Holiday Inn in Chicago. How ignorant do you have to be about customer service to be vacuuming a room at 2:30 in the morning?!!
Looks like a fellow who would be stuck in Nowhere, Ohio, writing about dumpy old hotels.
Since journalism doesn’t seem to be working out for him, maybe he’d want to give the private security industry a shot. He has the look of a cop wannabe.
oh boy...more tabloid Palin-Palooza
You know the national socialist media will be on the side of the cockroaches; their related.
Just tell us what Bristol isn't knocking.
She seems to be missing an editor.
