Where is “In God We Trust”?
Oops!
I liked the Sacagawea coins. I can’t find them anywhere. I went to the bank and said, “Hey, sell me a roll of those!” and they looked at me like I had two heads.
The fact they're the size of quarters reminds them of Jimmy Carter. His idea.
Loved the “Ike.”
People don’t like dollar coins for the same reason societies moved to paper money in the first place. Paper money is lighter and malleable, which makes it easier to carry and sort.
My understanding is “In God We Trust” is stamped on the outside of the rim.
I saw an article recently about the idea that separate denominations should be different sizes and colors. And vertical in art format. I don’t know why. One of the suggested designs had Obama as the portrait, so I forgot where it came from, I was so disgusted.
More proof that our gubmint is godless.
Yeah. God gets a rimjob.
In GoLd We Trust.
I go to the bank weekly and get $100 in two dollar bills. I love using them, especially if the cashiers are young. You should see the facial contortions.
Easy fix for your register trays.
Ban pennies. Round all transactions up to the nearest nickel. Now you have a slot for dollar coins. Stop printing $1 bills. Now you have a slot for $2 bills.
Now you don’t have to buy expensive copper for the pennies.
Do away with pennies and, someday, nickles.
The dime should be the smallest denomination.
That leaves room for $1 coins and, someday, $5 coins.
But those $5 coins should be midway in size between the dime and the quarter and be one tenth ounce of fine silver.
A silver dime in 1940’s was about 10 to 15 minutes of wages.
A silver dime now is worth about 10 to 15 minutes of wages
BUT that 10 to 15 minutes in wages is about $3.
So a silver coin a tad larger than a dime should be $5.
Oh, and a penny in the 1940’s was about a minute in wages.
Nowadays a minute in wages is about a quarter (12 cents at minimum wage).
That’s why they’re called “Carter Quarters”.
Yeah they’ve been pushing that European idea for a while. Not sure about the vertical art, different size and color makes the bills a lot easier to sort, especially for the blind. I’m not sure I like the different colors, just because we have that tradition of the greenback. We still have the most popular currency in the world, most of the places south of us you can buy just as easily with American money as with the local, some places it’s easier, don’t mess with success.
...A joint inquiry by NPR's Planet Money and Investigations teams found that the coins are the wasteful byproducts of a third, failed congressional effort to get Americans to use one-dollar coins in everyday commerce.......this is the point where I interrupt to say, be fruitful and multiply -- but not in those words.
You know how some pissed-off bill-payers will pour a box full of pennies on a clerk’s counter?
I imagine the Feds keeping this on hand for when someone demands payment of upwards of a billion dollars and the gov’t doesn’t want to: “fine, come get your money. And bring a lot of big trucks.”
Some even take $5 bills...
... and give dollar coins in change.
