John Lennon … Reagan Republican ?
Hot Air ^ | June 29, 2011 | Ed Morrissey

Second look at John Lennon? If his last personal assistant is to be believed, we may have to imagine John Lennon as a Reaganite. Fred Seaman told a filmmaker compiling anecdotes about the four Beatles that the former radical had begun debating people on the Left and soured on Jimmy Carter:

In new documentary Beatles Stories, Seaman tells filmmaker Seth Swirsky Lennon wasn’t the peace-loving militant fans thought he was while he was his assistant.

He says, “John, basically, made it very clear that if he were an American he would vote for Reagan because he was really sour on (Democrat) Jimmy Carter.

“He’d met Reagan back, I think, in the 70s at some sporting event… Reagan was the guy who had ordered the National Guard, I believe, to go after the young (peace) demonstrators in Berkeley, so I think that John maybe forgot about that… He did express support for Reagan, which shocked me.["]

The confiscatory British socialist tax code is what destroyed the Beatles:

What the Taxman Wrought

Like Rush says, a conservative is just a Liberal who go mugged, and Mr. Lennon certainly got mugged.

Perhaps he started to grow up near the end of his life.

Well, Revolution was clearly against the same and Back in the USSR is one of the best parodies ever of the workers paradise.

You say you'll change the constitution
Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well, you know
You better free you mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know it's gonna be all right

John Lennon’s Born-Again Phase
“Can He love me?” the former Beatle asked Oral Roberts. “I want out of hell.”

This doesn’t surprise me in the least.

The man was a shrewd observer of human nature, he was nobody’s fool, he shot from the hip, and he didn’t do “groupthink.”

All those characteristics plus the fact that he was an incredibly intelligent person all lead toward conservatism.

I have told people for years that I thought if Lennon hadn’t died so early, he would be a conservative.

Interesting. His last album was the only one of his I could stand to listen to, and I/we liked it a lot.

Imagine all the liberals, reading this in disbelief. Imagine all the denial swirling as they sleep. Imagine all the haters saying they are love. Oh oh oh oh They say he was a liberal. He really was a conservative. They say he was a hippie. Behind close doors he was eating them up leaving them only with their rib. They say he was a liberal. He was really a conservative.

“If you’re not liberal when you’re young, you have no heart. If you’re not conservative when you’re older, you have no brain.”

Yep growing up will do that to you..

Well, there were many Democrats who were sour toward Carter at the time, so it’s not surprising if Lennon would have been another one.

>>Well, there were many Democrats who were sour toward Carter at the time, so it’s not surprising if Lennon would have been another one.<<

And I can DEFINITELY see why a figure like Reagan would appeal to John Lennon.

An outspoken, straight-shooter who cut through the crap to tell it like it is in no uncertain terms, and who called a spade a spade and didn’t mince words.

Lennon was like that, too, so I’m certain he would admire that about Reagan.

Even Yoko makes sense in that clip. She says in not so many words famines are man-made. She’s right.

He met Reagan in the booth on Monday Night Football. Both were at the game and were being interviewed by Howard Cosell. It was surreal!
