What are they upset about?

Because they now have a pension that is fully taxpayer funded. In the future will have to contribute 3% of their own salary into it.

They are upset because the eeeeeeevilllll Gov. Rick Scott signed a bill forcing them to pay 3%, that's THREE-PerCent, Tres Percento, to their pension fund.

And now, that Cad, that Bounder, that Scum, that Nefarious Nudnik of a Governor who is beholden to special interests that line his pockets, that unmitigated conservative disaster of a *shudder* businessman who dared speak out against Hillary-Care when it was the "cause du jour of the Clinton administration, this knave who would force poor, defenseless welfare recipients to pass drug tests in order to receive benefits, this repulsive Republican will be, just to top things off, laying off 1600 state employees!!!!!

By the way, I hear that the number of Republicans in Broward County only slightly outnumber the total year-round, human residents of the Everglades.

Do I really need the "/sarcasm" tag?

In addition to the fact he is a republican, the unions are upset with the governor for two major reasons:

1 - The governor promoted and signed a budget that requires public employees to begin contributing three percent of their salary to help finance their retirement plans (previously they contributed zero).

2 - The Governor turned down federal seed money to start construction of a low speed rail system from the Florida west coast to Orlando.

The federal seed money was only a small fraction of what the project would have cost to build and operate. The remainder of the construction cost and the annual shortfall in operating revenue would have required new state and/or local taxes.

The governor said he would only agree to the project if backers could develope a business plan for a self supporting rail system that would not require an increase in taxes.

Of course they could not do so, even using Pelosi style bogus bookkeeping and inflated projections of ridership and revenue.

But the project would have created a lot of union jobs.

So the unions are rebel-rousing all over the state in an effort to poison voters against the Republican governor. In so doing their big hope is that they can swing voters against republicans in the 2012 presidebntial election.
