As Democratic and Republican leaders in Washington struggled to find agreement on spending cuts and extending the debt limit, Mitt Romney struck a conciliatory note in New Hampshire on Monday by lamenting partisan feuding while touting his record of working with Democrats even the Senates onetime liberal lion Edward M. Kennedy. [...]
At both stops, Romney pointed to the warmth between former President Reagan and former Democratic House Speaker Thomas P. Tip ONeill as an example of what is needed in the Capitol.
I worked with [former Massachusetts Sen.] Ted Kennedy, for Petes sakes, Romney said in Concord, noting that they disagreed on almost everything.

Romney Touts Ability to Find Common Ground With Democrats
Yeah, and as you point out, that is the main problem with so many of the republicans.

I'm sure Chamberlain bragged about his ability to work with Hitler too. Some say he was just naive. However: If you hold this view, reading The Chamberlain-Hitler Collusion will shock. You will find out that the British ruling class found nothing abhorrent in the Nazis. They welcomed Hitler's regime (as they did Franco's and Mussolini's), encouraged Germany to re-arm, and fully expected to work in alliance with it, right up until 1939. The book dispels the idea that Chamberlain desired a deal with Hitler because he was naive or wanted to avoid bloodshed. Indeed much of Chamberlain's hopes rested on encouraging Germany to go to war - against the Soviet Union. I'm not comparing Romney with Chamberlain other than making a point that working with one's opponents is either naive or there is a hidden agenda.

He can find common ground with quite a few Republicans. Lugar, Snowe, Lindsy Graham, McCain, etc. What he can't do is find common ground with the Tea Party and without their support, he is dead.

I worked with [former Massachusetts Sen.] Ted Kennedy, for Petes sakes, We know! On RomneyCare. That's the PROBLEM, not a PLUS.
Get a clue -there IS no 'working WITH" the devil. they do NOT work 'with' us, the ride roughshod until our RHINO's give in.
You do not make deals with the devil and come out even, let alone ahead..."for Pete's " or anyone Else's sake.
We realize you're making nice with them still, so's they'll continue to back you for our candidate - but we don't want you, you lily-livered traitor, aka "Plastic Man"

I wish I knew what some of these ‘Conservatives’ like Mitt find so attractive about the bi-partisan, ‘common ground’ path.
It is a blind alley and we have been down there before. Why are there any REMAINING Conservatives STILL think THAT is the way? When a cat sits on a hot stove and gets burned, he won't sit on another hot stove again.... and if he's a real smart cat, he will never sit on a cold one EITHER!!

What he can't do is find common ground with the Tea Party and without their support, he is dead. Don't be so sure. The NE liberal RINO Club will support him to the hilt.............

Mitt Romney struck a conciliatory note in New Hampshire on Monday by lamenting partisan feuding while touting his record of working with Democrats Hey Mitt, why don't you change parties and run against Obama in the primary????
If we wanted to elect someone who could get along with the Democrats, we'd vote for a Democrat! I don't vote to send anyone to DC to get along with the enemy.

Assuming we win the Presidency, we will pick up a lot of seats in the Senate. We’ll wind up with 55 to 60 seats and, if we don’t hit 60 in 2012, we’ll for sure hit 60 in 2014.
Bottom line: we don’t need no stinkin’ Democrats.
