Who is the Tea Party candidate for president?
If a gathering of about 100 Tea Party leaders in Washington on Monday gives any indication, its Representative Michele Bachmann (who just announced her candidacy), with Representative Ron Paul and Gov. Rick Perry vying for a close second (and probably edging her out on fervency of support).
Leaders from Tea Party groups in about 40 states gathered in the Washington offices of FreedomWorks, the libertarian advocacy group that cultivated the Tea Party movement.
(snip)
A (completely unscientific) voice-vote straw poll of the (possibly unrepresentative) group, conducted by reporters, found almost no support and even a few groans for Sarah Palin; loud boos drowning out a handful of cheers for Mitt Romney; nays for Jon M. Huntsman Jr.; and support but dismissals that he cant win for Herman Cain.
(snip)
On a voice-vote run-off (equally unscientific) among the apparent top three contenders, Mrs. Bachmann, a Minnesota Republican, seemed to do best among women in the room, while Mr. Perry did best among men, and Mr. Paul, also of Texas, did best among younger people in the room.
(snip)
Loretta Malander, a Tea Party activist from Oak Hill, Va., praised Mrs. Bachmann much the way supporters of Ms. Palin described her in 2008: Shes one of us, she said.We can connect and relate with her in the way we were raised, our values. We feel like she understands Middle America. Shes not one of those elites who look down on us.

New York Times is not a news paper.
It’s a DNC PAC.
*****The Tea Party has no leaders*****Correct;)
The Tea Party has a PLATFORM! Each & every member of the Tea Party leads by example and enthusiasm.
What? No support for Palin?
Well obviously, the Tea Partiers are all just a bunch of liberal, anti-American RINO whackos.
fruitloop idiot kooks
Rab and the rest of the loons are relying on a unscientific voice straw poll conducted by reporters to justify their fake support for Bachmann, they don’t care much for her. The Tea Party member vote who they want and corralled by the New York Times
I know the feeling GoCards, I’m not particularly an emotional person—but I’m drawn to Sarah, her family and her plight. It’s personal....it’s as if that was me and mine being attacked all through the fall of ‘08 up to this day. To me she’s a Rembrandt...a one of a kind....the one and only Barracuda....there’s not another. Whatever she and her family decides, I hope they stay safe. Godspeed.
Paul?? Since when has anti-semitism and anti-american foreign policy been part of Tea Party?
That's okay. Most of the time, the Palin people are relying on unscientific straw polls or the like too.
LOL.
It was revealed that Bachmann's favorite movie is "The Conqueror", it was a huge gaffe.
your tagline - I really like Thad McCotter (or T-Mac as Dennis Miller fondly calls him). He’s one smart, uber-articulate dude, and great guitarist, too. Did you see him on Huckabee over the weekend?
New York Slimes = useless garbage.

“”The Tea Party has no leaders. They just think they are.””
So true, but worse, they behave as if they are! All of the infighting and the jockeying for position and the power struggles between various factions/chapters is so tiring.
I am all for competition and understand there is a level of ruthlessness involved in business and politics, but good grief people, save it for the Leftists!!!
May God give us the strength and the wisdom to right this ship.
Tatt
MB has NO chance of making it to the general election.
They are only propping her up to keep Palin out.
If Palin doesn’t run then Romney is the nominee.
These are straw polls?
Three days ago the AP-Gfk poll showed Palin as first in favorability among all GOP candidates with republicans
Twelve days ago The Economist/YouGov poll had her at first on the 2012 list as nominee choice.
Eighteen days ago the Reuters/IPSOS poll had Palin at first of the 2012 list as nominee choice.
The wrong John Wayne

Rep. Michele Bachmann kicked off her presidential campaign on Monday in Waterloo, Iowa, and in one interview surrounding the official event she promised to mimic the spirit of Waterloo’s own John Wayne.
The only problem, as one eagle-eyed reader notes: Waterloo’s John Wayne was not the beloved movie star, but rather John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer.
Mrs. Bachmann grew up in Waterloo, and used the town as the backdrop for her campaign announcement, where she told Fox News: “Well what I want them to know is just like, John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That’s the kind of spirit that I have, too.”
