The wrong John Wayne (Rollins appears to be Bachman's Idiot)
washington times ^ | 6/27 | Dinan

Posted on 06/27/2011 11:54:18 AM PDT by RummyChick

Rep. Michele Bachmann kicked off her presidential campaign on Monday in Waterloo, Iowa, and in one interview surrounding the official event she promised to mimic the spirit of Waterloo's own John Wayne.

The only problem, as one eagle-eyed reader notes: Waterloo's John Wayne was not the beloved movie star, but rather John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer.

Mrs. Bachmann grew up in Waterloo, and used the town as the backdrop for her campaign announcement, where she told Fox News: "Well what I want them to know is just like, John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That's the kind of spirit that I have, too."

(Someone has already posted the clip to YouTube under the name BachmannLovesGacy) John Wayne, the movie legend, is in fact from Iowa and the John Wayne birthplace is a celebrated landmark — only it's in Winterset, which is a nearly three hour drive away from Waterloo. Gacy, though, had his first taste of the criminal life in Waterloo, where he lived for a short time, and where he had his first criminal conviction for an attempted homosexual assault, which landed him in prison for 18 months. He would move back to Illinois, where his killing spree started, and lasted about six years. In 1980 he was convicted on 33 counts of murder, and was executed in 1994.

I agree she screwed up. How could you be from Waterloo and not know that John Wayne is NOT from Waterloo?

But Gacy is not from Waterloo.

And since she’s a stalking horse for Romney Politico is going to buy her “Well his parents were...” explanation.

Sounds like somebody on her team isn't on her team. A plant from another campaign? Or from Comedy Central? Or just somebody stupid?

If you're within 20 or 30 miles it counts as right. But that's not the case here, as Waterloo to Winterset is further than that.

It would have been alright if John Wayne Gacy hadn't lived for about three years in Waterloo and been arrested there.

I guess you could have been born in Waterloo and not know that -- not want to know it -- but if you're a candidate you have to check things like that out.

Bachmann IS the caricature that the MSM wants you to believe Sarah Palin is.

No experience, no accomplishments as a Congresswoman.Human gaffe machine. No business running for VP. She is the biggest political fraud that has been perpetrated on the US since Øbama.

who would have ever conceived of naming a guy Marion?

Just for fun, here is another famous "Marion"...

From the Pro Football Hall of Fame

In his nine professional seasons, he amassed 4,720 yards on 828 carries for an amazing 5.7 yards-per-carry average. When he retired Marion held a host of Browns' club records. In addition to be elected to the Hall of Fame in 1968, Motley was named in 1994 to the NFL’s 75th Anniversary All-Time Team.

Maybe not, but when you add in that mass murderer John Wayne Gacey lived there, then it is huge.

I can't imagine a scenario where I would vote for her.

How about if it's her or Ubama?
Everybody has their "line in the sand". Mine is Romney, Paul, or Huntsman. I will stay home if any of them is the GOP nominee.

They are not dumb but lazy. Politicians should pen their own speeches or speak from notes. Or at least fact check a speech that you are to read. This is what happens when one delegates their authenticity.

I challenged a bunch of Bachmann supporters to think of why congresscritters don't become the nominee of their party.

Perhaps they are learning something.......

MB fans, I’m sorry. This is another in a series of major screwups in her judgement. In the last 2 months she’s thrown a significant number of Tea Partiers under the bus ovr the birther issue, she’s hired one of the biggest GOP company men out there, and now this. Look. Anyone can make mistakes but when the pattern is this obvious, come on.

She is a problem, not the solution. She either is genuinely ignorant of her hometown’s history (not good -who could mistake the Duke being born in their ‘hometown’ if he wasn’t) or (much worse) it was just a lie to curry favor with voters.

We have enough Joe Biden gaffe machines running around the right side of the yard. If we want Biden, then lets just elect the real thing.

She’s not fit for the office.

This is why Rep. Bachmann can't get a leadership position. This is why she can't land a plum committee appointment.

No one has asked the question why someone with her state legislature experience and education can't scratch in DC

I commented several weeks ago she got out of her depth when she left state government. I am more convinced than ever of that.

Damn, where are the smart conservatives with accomplishment, with life experience, with high intellectual and ethical standards?

She's in the wings, and we're waiting for her to declare her candidacy. I'd look for sometime after July 26th.
