The wrong John Wayne (Rollins appears to be Bachman's Idiot)
washington times ^ | 6/27 | Dinan

Posted on 06/27/2011 11:54:18 AM PDT by RummyChick

Rep. Michele Bachmann kicked off her presidential campaign on Monday in Waterloo, Iowa, and in one interview surrounding the official event she promised to mimic the spirit of Waterloo's own John Wayne.

The only problem, as one eagle-eyed reader notes: Waterloo's John Wayne was not the beloved movie star, but rather John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer.

Mrs. Bachmann grew up in Waterloo, and used the town as the backdrop for her campaign announcement, where she told Fox News: "Well what I want them to know is just like, John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That's the kind of spirit that I have, too."

(Someone has already posted the clip to YouTube under the name BachmannLovesGacy) John Wayne, the movie legend, is in fact from Iowa and the John Wayne birthplace is a celebrated landmark — only it's in Winterset, which is a nearly three hour drive away from Waterloo. Gacy, though, had his first taste of the criminal life in Waterloo, where he lived for a short time, and where he had his first criminal conviction for an attempted homosexual assault, which landed him in prison for 18 months. He would move back to Illinois, where his killing spree started, and lasted about six years. In 1980 he was convicted on 33 counts of murder, and was executed in 1994.

Hell, I’ve known since I was in high school that John Wayne was from WINTERSET Iowa, specifically. Just one of the million useless facts in my brain. And even though I lived in Chicago when the J.W. Gacy broke, I DIDN’T know he was from Waterloo.

If a staffer gave her that, fire him.

I'd suggest background checks on staffers for all GOP candidates by their candidates.

In 2008, Rolling Stone magazine sent a Democrat reporter to join (allegedly as a supporter) the McCain Florida volunteer effort.

And a number of early McCain 2008 staffers (some of whom dated back to 2006) were Democrats who apparently were only intent on seeing McCain get the GOP nomination, not the presidency. Some McCain 2008 staffers even went over to the Obama 2008 campaign after McCain secured the GOP nomination.

Log Cabin Republicans have been outed as only serving to further the gay rights agenda within both parties, they are officially CINO these days.

Trust in your staff but don't be an idiot and think they actually want to see you win just because they apply for a job in your office.

Ironically, other than the blip on Drudge along side 3 positive blips, I’m not really seeing this story out in the press. I think she might well get a pass.

Gacy was born in Chicago in the early 40s, then moved to Iowa in the 60s to manage a KFC restaurant. Waterloo, apparently, was quite a rockin’ town in those days, especially the Jaycees!

Once HuffPo and Politico pick it up, it will go viral.

Bachmann's staff = too stupid for Google or Wikipedia. John Wayne was born in Winterset, Iowa.

It is simply part of a well established, extensively documented pattern. FaH that it happened a day after she waxed indignant about this type issue and shortly after she tersely refused to accept Mr. Wallace's apology.

"Staying home=voting for Obama"

No, it doesn't. Your logic is flawed in the extreme.

I will vote my conscience and my vote will not be cast for Obama, Gingrich, Bachmann, Huntsman or Romney.

There are several choices beyond that.

Also, surely you are aware the Bachmann is not supposed to the win the primary. It's not her turn.

When she hired Rollins and he took the job, she became a card-carrying member of the DC Chapter of the GOP. Her job is to siphon support from any committed conservative AND to give "Tea Party Cred" to Romney when he offers her the VP spot.

It's as plain as day.

Holy moly. Yeah, that’s bad background investigation. And, as someone from Waterloo, Iowa, she should know better.

/FWIW, Wiki says he’s from Winterset, Iowa.

It doesn’t matter, their audience are political junkies anyway. It will be interesting to see if Fox News, John Stewart, and the MSM pick it up, however.

It depends on she is representing herself as she tries to connect with those in Iowa.

It appears she was trying to cash in on where she lived and the central theme of John Wayne’s America.

She blew it.

And yes, this is starting to go viral.

Even those in Minnesota called it a large blunder

Allegedly Gacy hit on Dave Davies of the Kinks when they toured through.

LOL. I thought Gacy was fabulous with Maureen O’Hara.

Although I'm glad they cut the scene out of the Quiet Man where Sean throttled Mary Kate and buried her in the potato patch.

LOL!!
