Gov. Rick Perry spoke Sunday at a summit hosted by the billionaire Koch brothers near Vail, Colorado.
Perry spokesman....described the Colorado summit as a private gathering of business leaders and said it was not related to a possible presidential campaign.
This was an opportunity to talk about the economic success in Texas, Miner said, adding that it was no different than other speeches Perry gives touting the Texas job record.
Charles and David Koch of Koch Industries, an energy conglomerate based in Kansas, are among the countrys leading financial backers of conservative candidates and causes.
The Denver Post has more on the gathering: The meetings are organized by two of the nations most powerful conservative political donors, Charles and David Koch of the privately held energy giant Koch Industries. Their brother, William Koch , who on Saturday paid $2 million at a Denver auction for a tintype image of Billy the Kid, also is a conservative political donor, but he does not participate in his brothers activities. The guest list is kept secret, and organizers wont say where the four-day retreat is being held beyond describing it as in the Vail area. On Friday, a spokeswoman for Koch Industries said, The purpose of this conference is to develop support for the kind of free-market policies and initiatives that can get our country back on the path to economic prosperity and sustained job creation.
Its not entirely clear how Perry got to Colorado, but a plane owned by aircraft dealer Goldsmith Team LLC flew from Aspen to Georgetown on Sunday, flight records show.
...Goldsmith made more than $25,000 worth of in-kind contributions to Perrys re-election campaign. And now that the legislative session and veto period are over, Perry and other state officials can again accept in-kind contributions.

"I saw all of these different types of governments and I made the connections to how the people acted and looked, and it became abundantly clear to me that, at that particular point in time, that America was this very unique place and that our form of democracy was very rare," Perry said. " ... That was the greatest gift I received from my years of being in the military, and they really shaped my outlook on the rest of my life." ......

I have no idea if this is accurate. The American Statesman would view anything north of Romney as a rabid right wing conservative. But I’m hopeful for Perry. I can only hope he follows a true conservative path in his quest to be the prez.

Perrys vaccination order still stoking fires
AUSTIN Blowback continued at the Capitol on Wednesday over Gov. Rick Perrys order mandating
that schoolgirls be vaccinated against a sexually transmitted disease linked to cervical cancer.

Critics rip Perrys vaccine mandate
Governor rejects opponents calls to reverse order
AUSTIN Gov. Rick Perry stood firm Monday against a political firestorm generated by his
order that sixth-grade girls be inoculated against a sexually transmitted virus linked to cervical cancer.
Social conservatives from Texas to Washington called on Perry to reverse his order making
Texas the first state to require the vaccine, saying the mandate makes sex seem permissible
and that parents should be the ones to decide whether to immunize their daughters.
And several Texas lawmakers expressed outrage at Perry for circumventing the legislative process.

The vaccine, Gardasil, is manufactured by Merck, which was represented in Austin by the
lobbyist Mike Toomey, who was chief of staff for Mr. Perry from 2002 to 2004.
It’s ok when Obama wines & dines his donors in the WH on our dime, all the while claiming the fundraiser is an ‘economic summit’.

THANK YOU-!!! You’ve adressed some the points I wanted to draw attention to....!
Your 2007 article states
“.........that the HPV vaccine should be mandatory, with parents who object being allowed to opt out as they can for other vaccines......”
So if parents are allowed to opt out, what is the big deal?
...just asking?

"Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! Dirty Money has got to go!" (video) Outside the Anti-Koch Rally
.....After about 45 minutes, the cops opened the road again (the police originally said they would only shut the street for 7 minutes) and asked the crowd to disperse. Eventually, the crowd did so, chanting This is just the beginning.
Sheriffs deputy Neiburger would not say whether this was the first time protesters had disrupted the Koch Brothers meetings, but up until last year and a series of articles by Lee Fang of Think Progress, they had not been well-publicized.
Bob Edgar, the President of Common Cause, said in a brief interview that he was happy with the turnout and the outcome. I asked him if this was evidence of a more aggressive organization. Keep watching, he said." Source: California Student Sustainability Coalition

Jan 31, 2011.........House Majority leader and prominent Jewish conservative Eric Cantor, and prospective GOP Presidential candidate Herman Cain, were among the guest speakers at a strategy meeting for Free Market supporting activists over the weekend. The event took place in Rancho Mirage at the Las Palmas Resort & Spa.
The annual gathering is sponsored by David and Charles Koch, oil billionaires and philanthropists from Kansas. David Koch was the 1980 Libertarian Party Vice-Presidential candidate.
The brothers own Koch Industries, an energy conglomerate ranked by Forbes magazine as the second-largest privately held company in the United States, and are known to underwrite the Cato Institute and other libertarian and conservative causes.
But the event turned ugly......
“About two dozen police officers in riot gear lined up in front of the Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in the upscale desert town of Rancho Mirage to keep the protesters away from the gated entrance.
At one point, a group of demonstrators blocked the street in front of the resort for nearly an hour before Riverside County sheriff’s deputies moved in and handcuffed about 25 activists who were led away and cited for trespassing.
Protesters came from a variety of leftwing groups, including the antiwar Code Pink and public sector worker unions.
Many of the boisterous activists, some chanting “Dirty Money, Dirty Money,” carried signs with such slogans as “Power to the People” and “Tea Party Founded and Funded by the Kochs.”
