TSA security officers at Florida's Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport patted down a cancer-stricken, 95-year-old woman and forcibly removed her adult diaper during the search, CNN reports. Could this end up being yet another TSA PR nightmare?
Jean Weber was traveling with her ill mother on June 18 from Florida to Michigan to see relatives "in the final stages of her battle with leukemia" when the incident occurred.
Weber told CNN that while she thinks the officers may have been "procedurally correct...the procedure needs to be changed." Weber noted that her mother had had a blood transfusion the week before.
A Suspiciously "Wet and Firm" Diaper
While passing through security, TSA officials "felt something suspicious and they couldn't determine what it was," so they took Weber's mother to a private room.
A TSA agent told Weber that her mother's Depends underwear was "wet and firm and they couldn't check it thoroughly," so the mother-daughter duo left in search of a bathroom to remove the underwear. Weber did not have an extra pair of Depends with her.
Weber "burst into tears" but her mother was "very calm" even though she was forced to go through the airport without underwear. Her elderly mother was taken to the boarding gate without her as Weber was still going through security.

Dying Woman Undergoes Additional TSA Security Screening, Says Family

95 years old.
This woman got to see this country go from a beautiful Republic with guarantees of Life, Liberty and Property to a coercive oppressive police state where you are guilty until proven innocent.
============================
This is why the TSA wheeled Granny in the back and stripped her down. Out of sight, out of mind.
“It would be interesting to know who makes the decision to search such a person. There has to be a whole host of sadistic neurons lurking in that persons mind.”
Evil, pure evil. . .
If you love your grandmother - personally carry her to her destination. Even if you have to rent a car.
Flying out of Austin, TX in April, I watched no less than three TSA “agents” frisking a little boy of about 4 or 5. The kid looked scared to death. Neither he or his Mother looked suspicious...just another example of TSA bungling. I can say with certainty that the TSA has likely detected more breast implants than terrorists.
When terrorists get America running away from its own shadow (or an incontinent grandma’s pant load) then they are winning without firing a shot.
There’s an old saw that generals always fight the previous battle. At the very very best, TSA is now trying to find the underwear bomber. The jihadi who cleverly has his wallet, say, made out of the same, presumably undetectable kaboom chemicals, will saunter through the groping or even the X ray scanner, scott free. Then he’ll set off his wallet in flight.
What’s needed is a way to detect all explosives in a scan that does not even show a picture of somebody’s private parts (let alone get them groped) unless the explosive can’t be accounted for any other way. More effort seems to be put into teaching dogs how to ferret out questionable imports than into how to identify the next bomber of any kind.
The problem is, we shouldn't be fighting this battle at the airport line. We need to declare real war on the Islamists and not allow them to plan in plain sight.
Will never happen so be prepared for more stories of anybody and everything being searched.
Ought we at the least be also hearing occasional stories about “oh, look at us, we just caught a terrorist’s mule, now you can see why we look in granny’s underpants”?
Leave it to TSA to refuse any more dignified treatment of the issue. The charade is there to project the appearance of power (getting groped, virtually or physically, is a powerful psychological trick) while not covering other very plausible methods by which a jihadi would bring materials on a flight to bring it down.
I certainly agree with that.
That isn’t security; it is Federally-sanctioned terrorism. The Feds are trying to use intimidation to condition the masses to accept a police state. I went Galt on flying over 10 years ago.
I know I am late replying here - but I just talked with a relative who is a single woman with a mentally challenged 38 year old daughter, who has the intellectual capacity of a three year old. She is in a wheelchair, and only has partial use of one hand.
Her mother was taking her on a ‘trip of a lifetime’ - to Las Vegas, and traveling by air.
TSA actually put their hand in her depends, looking for ‘something’. Her mother was apalled! And, she KNEW if she said anything, they would not be able to board the plane. The daugher started crying, not knowing what was happening to her.
I AM ASHAMED TO ADMIT THAT MY TAX DOLLARS GO TO SOMETHING SO OUTRAGEOUS AND ASSULTING!
It is time to get rid of Napolitano and the TSA, IMHO! El Air racially profiles, as we should, too!
I think all ME men between the ages of 18 and 45 should fly on a plane designated ONLY for them.
This story makes me sick.
That’s awful!
“I think all ME men between the ages of 18 and 45 should fly on a plane designated ONLY for them.”
The airlines’ insurance rates would go through the roof.
Just wishful thinking, CF. Seems I’ve been doing that a lot these past couple years!
