CHICAGO (WLS) - Chicago's new top cop says the accessibility to firearms in America is an extension "of government-sponsored racism" that goes back to the days of slavery and Jim Crow.
Speaking to parishoners at St. Sabina Church earlier this month, Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy took to the microphone after Father Michael Pfleger spoke about gun control.
McCarthy said the topic of race is a sensitive issue "because everybody's afraid of race" but that he wasn't afraid to broach to subject.
So heres what I want to tell you. See, lets see if we can make a connection here. Slavery. Segregation. Black codes. Jim Crow. What, what did they all have in common? Anybody getting scared? Government sponsored racism."
"Now I want you to connect one more dot on that chain of the African American history in this country, and tell me if Im crazy. Federal gun laws that facilitate the flow of illegal firearms, into our urban centers across this country, that are killing our black and brown children," he said.
"The NRA does not like me, and Im okay with that. Weve got to get the gun debate back to center, and its got to come with the recognition of whos paying the price for the gun manufacturers being rich and living in gated communities," McCarthy said.
McCarthy illustrated his point by recalling a crime scene investigation while he was a police official in Newark, New Jersey where five children were shot, two of whom were killed. McCarthy said when he got home, he turned on his television to unwind and find an episode of "Sarah Palin's Alaska" showing.
"She was caribou hunting and talking about the right to bear arms. Why wasn't she at the crime scene with me?"
It must have been the gun's fault. These people are not sane, and this guy is Chicago's "top Cop"
And you WONDER how an Administartion like this would be willing to us Fast+ Furious to take away your Constitutional Rights?
Wow!! I knew she missed with those first few shots due to a bumped scope, but I didn't think they went that far off target!
“Why wasn’t she at the crime scene with me?”
Ummm .....because she doesn’t like shi(r)tholes or @$$holes?
OK. You may or may not be crazy, but you are an ignoramus. Gun control laws were originally passed under Jim Crow to prevent blacks from having guns to defend themselves, a policy you endorse today.
Who’s doing the killing?
he’s right in a backwards way.
Jim Crow laws prevented black from owning guns and protecting themselves from the KKK. That was how the NRA started.
I’ll lend him my copy of this book so moron and father fathead can learn something.
Shouldn’t this guy be throwing real criminals in jail? er, I mean victims of white oppression??
/sarc
For some people, all roads lead to racism.
mostly black on black gang crime...or guns just got up themselves and went around shooting.
could be either.
Do you really expect a pig to know the facts.
The insanity and the chutzpah of these people never ceases to amaze me.........
“Slavery. Segregation. Black codes. Jim Crow. What, what did they all have in common?”
They were brought about by Democratic Party.
They were all invented by Democrats. Democrats who also, by the way, passed laws making it impossible for Blacks to buy arms with which to defend themselves from the Ku Klux Klan - another bunch of Democrats.
The original Black Panthers of Alabama were a group of Black men who asserted their Second Amendment right to arm themselves in self-defense against rogue Democratic "lawmen" like McCarthy. A wolf in sheep's clothing, folks.
Sshh.
Don’t let the facts stand in the way of propaganda.
Wow!! I knew she missed with those first few shots due to a bumped scope, but I didn't think they went that far off target!
"Don't mish, shon, or you'll hit shomeone in Detriot..."
Right on the first part, wrong on the second. The NRA was founded by veterans of the Civil War who were shocked at the number of recruits who couln't shoot. The goal was to promote shooting and marksmanship, it had nothing to do with gun control.
>>> accessibility to firearms in America is an extension “of government-sponsored racism” that goes back to the days of slavery and Jim Crow
Just how do you combat stupidity this magnitude? There is no educating this deep bias.
Bingo! Thanks for saving me the typing.
To be a politician in Chicago you sure have to kiss every radicals ass.
