“...oh thats odd, Tango never does that to anyone else.”
Probably the last thing the owner says right before their dog rips into someone. Or after — “my dog has never done that before. They must have done something to provoke my dog.”

“... not advisable to fight around a Bull Mastiff”.
Sounds very similar to mine... dog got confused over protection when two of the people he was suppose to protect appeared to be fighting. I think it totally confuses the dog to the point that you aren’t 100% sure how he will react. I can imagine your brother’s surprise when he had a giant mouth put around his arm!!

And there are varying degrees of what different breeds can do. A little phi-phi chihuahua can hurt and maybe even draw blood. But is is very unlikely that that dog will kill a person.
Other breeds are different. And some dogs are bred for their strength and power... and ultimately, their ability to incapacitate or even kill someone.
Oh ya, and last but not least, the idiot owner that does all of the wrong things that you list below. Dogs are domesticated but they are still animals with instincts and pack type behaviors.

Yes, she was rather new to the dog - and he had been her master for years. To find himself on the “outs” and the dog obviously protecting his wife was confusing to him - until he figured out that his wife was pregnant!
My dog has this attitude towards violence “I am the professional - leave it ALL to me, no violence is allowed in my presence. Violent behavior WILL be met with a tackle and subduing mouth around your throat.”
We were out for a walk and she got all antsy because a guy in his truck was fighting with his girlfriend. When he punctuated his argument by slamming his fist against her seat with three loud bangs - my dog went nuts. She did a leap that would have landed her in the front seat of his truck!
Luckily she was on leash and I pulled her back - but she was going in like Wonder Woman - to settle the matter.... conclusively!!!!

Lol. I remember my parents shihtzu. He was best buddies with my brother and whenever we'd push or punch my brother, that little furball was right there barking and biting us.

My mom had a female Australian Shepherd that didn't really like men.
My stepdad was rough housing with my sister (his daughter)when that dog jumped through the screen window and bit him on the butt!
Had to get rid of that dog!

Why do people insist on owning a breed with a fairly documented track record of aggressiveness and unpredictability, especially when not trained properly. Mystifying, isn't it? And ESPECIALLY around children!

There is only one way to deal with a raging pit:
Wrap arm around neck tightly, and use other hand to completely plug nose.
The mutt will immediately release its jaws to breathe.
Just do not let go until the dog collapses from o2 starvation.

What is sort of funny is your dog HATES violence and is really peace loving. She’s just like 170 pounds of peace lovin’ fun!! Everyone will get along or I’ll settle it. LOL!!

You woudnt keep a loaded gun on the coffee table with kids roaming, the same applies to certain breeds of dogs.
I wouldn't keep any kind of dog on my coffee table.
