Mayor Tom Richards released a statement Wednesday afternoon, which says he has seen the video of Emily Good's arrest last month. Good was arrested while she was videotaping police conducting a traffic stop in front of her home.
The video has been posted on YouTube.
Good was charged with obstruction of governmental administration.

Oh snap! (literally)
Tough titties. He's in a closely packed neighborhood.
Unless you want full-scale evacuations of entire areas whenever the bubble-lights go on, yer just gonna have to freakin' cope.
That has got to be the vaguest, most BS charge I've heard yet.
So now I can be arrested at the DMV for disagreeing with the clerk?
You are correct about the close proximity and behind. However, I am friends with many LEO’s. I haven’t heard one yet say this guy was right. All said that he was within his rights to ask her to move - back but most of my friends felt that was even a power play. The officer was turned toward the lady taking the video most of the time.
I viewed the video that is posted on YouTube, and I find it confirms the woman’s story, and not the police officer’s claims.
None of us, you included, know what she said before rolling tape, but your conclusion about that fact is a non sequitur.
I’d say it is a bad thing every time in this situation.
Law Enforcement Code of Ethics
As a Law Enforcement Officer, my fundamental duty is to serve
mankind; to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against
deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful
against violence or disorder; and to respect the Constitutional rights of all
men to liberty, equality and justice.
I will keep my private life unsullied as an example to all; maintain
courageous calm in the face of danger, scorn, or ridicule; develop
self-restraint; and be constantly mindful of the welfare of others. Honest in
thought and deed in both my personal and official life, I will be exemplary in
obeying the laws of the land and the regulations of my department.
Whatever I see or hear of a confidential nature or that is confided in me in
my official capacity will be kept ever secret unless revelation is necessary in
the performance of my duty.
I will never act officiously or permit personal feelings, prejudices,
animosities or friendships to influence my decisions. With no compromise
for crime and the relentless prosecution of criminals, I will enforce the law
courteously and appropriately without fear of favor, malice or ill will, never
employing unnecessary force or violence and never accepting gratuities.
I recognize the badge of my office as a symbol of public faith, and I
accept it as a public trust to be held so long as I am true to the ethics of the
police service. I will constantly strive to achieve these objectives and ideals,
dedicating myself before God to my chosen profession...law enforcement.
Quite possibly, she had said absolutely nothing before switching on the recorder, but the "clever" policeman thought that it would make a good "sound bite" to say that anyway!
Regards,
Not just the city, but the cop himself, needs to be sued, and held civily if not criminally liable.
Glenn Beck spent a long time playing the audio version of this tape on his radio show Wednesday morning.
The cop was not afraid. He kept saying "I don't feel safe...." which a key phrase (I assume) for authorizing him to do what he did. It's like saying "I felt my life was in danger." after a gun fight to establish a need for self defense. He was basically annoyed by her video taping and gave himself a procedural excuse to do what he did.
he is a typical asshole. They have existed throughout history, where do you think Roman soldiers who beat and killed Christ, Nazi Brown Shirts and members of Saddam’s Republican Guards came from.
This guy and ALL the officers at the scene should lose their jobs and pensions TODAY! Their supervisor, if not on scene, should be demoted after he serves a month long unpaid suspension. If on scene he should also be fired.
It is high time the government was forced, at all levels,to treat the public with proper respect.
The government and their apparatchiks are out of control at every level.
It doesn’t matter what she said.
The First Amendment trumps poor widdle poweece feewings that might get hurt or challenges to what some thug with a badge thinks is his authority.
Cops who do this need to be fired and they, their departments and cities successfully sued. Then maybe this would stop and these JBTs would think twice before harassing the citizenry.
It just keeps getting worse! Why in God’s name would anyone really want to be a cop? Life on the line every day, next to nothing for a yearly salary, (sure decent bennies and Ret. considerations), loved ones in constant worry over their well being etc, etc, etc. Why be a cop? Your ideas nailed it Slam.
