Why doesnt President Barack Obama just put us out of misery and run up the White flag in Afghanistan? Mr Obama might think it is jolly good politics to withdraw 33,ooo U.S. troops before next years presidential election but, whatever he says about the campaign moving in the right direction, there is little doubt he has dealt the missions prospects for success a mortal blow.
Talk to any military commander on either side of the Atlantic as I frequently do and they will tell you that they need two full fighting seasons this summer and next if the impact of the surge strategy Mr Obama authorised in late 2009 is to succeed.

Surrender takes different forms, just as winning does. My take is the United States has spent ten years trying to reform the region into a democracy, and has failed.
The failure isn’t a reflection upon the United States, but rather a product of Afghanistan’s culture. These people don’t share our values, and never will. In fact, the hard core citizenry would rather destroy our way of life.
My take is the United States should bring all the troops home immediately. Defense mechanisms should be developed and deployed to keep these people at bay. Let them live in their culture, and prevent them from bringing it to our shores.
“and prevent them from bringing it to our shores.”
And this is key.
Being that Hussein is ANTI-America and PRO-Muzzie, I’m sure he sees this as a victory.
There will remain a full combat capability for this season and the next and the next.
Also, our drone overwatch is greatly expanded and covers nearly all resupply routes so we need far fewer force protection troops and our combat operations are much more surgical and less troops needed.
No authentic victory can occur in any war or conflict unless your enemy decides to stop fighting. Anyone with even the most remedial knowledge of the Pahktun would laugh at the thought of them being willing to stop fighting.
Pahktun stop fighting when they stop breathing.
Victory has never been available to us, so don't be disappointed. We have a weapons and surveillance platform in AfPak from the four biggest military bases in S Asia and will be conducting ops for many years to come.
Reform wasn’t the initial objective - it was about the apprehension and destruction of Osama (thought to be holed up there) and his supporters, ranging from AQ to the Taliban.
Bush, unfortunately, was almost immediately made to feel guilty about fighting wars to defend the US and then decided to adopt the “humanitarian liberator” shtick in order to placate the Dems (who would never go for anybody actually defending the US!).
Sadly, we’re just handing it back over to the same people we spent billions of dollars and lots of lives in defeating - and we actually did have them on the run and out of power, until we decided that we were evil imperialists being mean to their historic culture, yada, yada, yada.
The only ones I feel sorry for are the women and young people there who may have been foolish enough to trust us. But then, I felt sorry for the Vietnamese who had been foolish enough to trust us, too. Oh, and all the Americans killed and horribly injured because they actually believed they were going there to defend their country and make the world safe for civilization...guess Obama and the Dems had other ideas.
The only difference between The 0/Afghanistan and LBJ/Viet Nam is that LBJ at least had the foresight to quit and walk away BEFORE his buddies in congress kneecapped our troops and any locals dumb enough to believe his line of crap.
At least the pimp media won’t be able to slander the troops in The Sandbox the way they did for us. (Not for any lack of effort, just because they shot all their creds and circulation.)
I am waiting for all of the leaks detailing how Obama sided with Slow Joe Biden over the combined wisdom of his senior military.
