When it comes to the concealed-carry bill expected to be signed soon by Gov. Scott Walker, I guess it's time for opponents like me to surrender.
After the bill was approved by most Republicans and some Democrats, the Assembly will send the bill to Walker to become the law of the land. The move is being hailed as a major victory by those who believe concealed carry provides a much-needed safety net for law-abiding citizens who can now feel free to summon up their inner Clint Eastwood on demand to defend their loved ones.
Of course, that's a crock.
Many law enforcement officers will tell you how difficult it would be for a regular citizen - even with the required training - to use a handgun in a confrontation with a criminal. No matter how many action movies you may have watched, it's just not that simple.

Translation: You're just too stupid, so you need to be a good little sheep and let the police protect you.
Having been there [no, I won't provide many details except that the outcome was satisfactory]. I'd disagree. When a criminal creates a situation in which a normal person is willing to use deadly force, there shouldn't be any serious qualms. Before a responsible firearms owner reaches that point, he should have practiced enough to use the weapon reliably and place his shots accurately with some awareness of what lies beyond the target.
The complex part is dealing with law enforcement, and that is what lawyers are for. Part of preparation for self defense is learning exactly what to say to the police (VERY little), when to stop talking, and how to obtain the right lawyer once you're in that position. Even against a convicted felon who breaks into your home, the decisions you made in seconds will be analyzed for days. It's helpful, once you're there, if a lawyer guides you on what information to provide and how to phrase it. And of course, you do not "shoot to kill", although if your center-mass shots intended to "stop the threat" happen to create a situation in which the criminal will never commit another crime, that's not a bad outcome.
Many.. There is word again.
Well many people who do carry concealed weapons have been thoroughly trained in its use. Many of the mass shootings at universities and schools would have been prevented if concealed carry was in place.
Then again, many leftwing wuss journolists are scared that their agenda cannot be implemented.
It would have been helpful, even prudent, for this ill informed writer to quote statistics about how dangerous it is for the general population to conceal carry. Problem is, there aren’t any. All the statistics go the other way.
Just like a liberal, never let the facts get in the way of a story.
Wow.
Today, only the criminals will be carrying, but the cops are not worried about them.
When this law is signed, legal, law-abiding citizens, will become armed and angry, and will want to shoot it out over a traffic ticket.
Police academies devote on the order of 20-40 hours to handgun training. I've got much more training time than that. I also spend a lot more time on the range than most officers, many of whom only fire their guns at yearly qualification time.
And the private citizen who gets attacked will find that getting to his gun is a lot faster than calling police and waiting for them to arrive.

HORSE SHIT...
As a former Law Enforcement Officer I could not disagree more. Now Chiefs and others with political positions in law enforcement always want the citizens disarmed. But most rank and file cops have no problem with law abiding citizens exercising their Constituonal Rights...
We as citizens HAVE A RIGHT TO DEFEND OURSELVES. DEAL WITH IT...
More like a Hollow Point victory.
At the age of eleven or twelve I started using a seven shot, bolt action .22 caliber Remington Scoremaster rifle with a 26 inch barrel. I could knock the eyes out of a squirrel at fifty feet or farther with ease. The little .22 was quite capable of killing a human at 100 yards or even more. My younger brother has the old rifle now and there are still no notches in the stock. Of course if we had had a concealed handgun we would have run around shooting school teachers, preachers, puppets, pirates, pawns, poets, a pawn and a king.
Gun banners are the biggest fools on Earth.

Sure it is. Its real simple. Bang-bang-bang-bang.
Blood will flow in the streets.
Every fender bender will be a shoot out.
Every case of road rage will be a running gun battle.
Police provide all the protection the "average person" needs (in about 10 minutes).
Their guns will be stolen when they are in gun free zones.
It hasn't happened in over 7 years. All most everyone of those anti concealed carry crusaders were either ignorant or just plain lying.
when you stop buying the papers that these A$$holes print they might get the message that no one really cares what they think...

It took just about 45 min. for police to respond to a burglary call in my neck of metro Atlanta. I will have no problem in shooting in that general direction
BTW it was watching action movies and Westerns that prepared me for being in a gunfight (along with a half million rounds of 22 killing rats at the dump). If I had wandered into the C store half asleep instead of on watch I would be dead. Learned that from Clint - HA!
Ammo conservation! ;-)
