It is a truism of political dynasties that there is a chosen heir - the one who should or would or could have been next. It is certainly apt of the Bush family.
Jeb Bush is the son who was groomed for the presidency.
He was the one most Republicans expected to succeed his father into the Oval Office.
And today, looking at their, let's be frank, lacklustre field, many Republicans still wish he would do just that.
"It's very flattering to be asked that regularly," Jeb tells me in his office at the Coral Gables Biltmore Hotel.
"I don't wake up each morning saying, 'Oh, wow, it's me. I think I'm the cat's meow. I'm the best'," he adds.
"There are great candidates running and my guess is that one of them will be president, and I'll be supportive."
What Jeb doesn't say is that the current Republican field would look very different if he were to run.

We’re all going to do our best with a line up of newbies, whose names nobody generally knows to drag one of them across the line. But sane Americans factually prefer Anybody
But Obama, so take it to the bank. If it nets us a RINO, against our will, who gains the nomination we’re going to drag him over the line, because he/she is Anybody But Obama. Period.
So, Tom, save the lecture on RINO voting. We’re on the same side but nobody is going to vote Obama, or sit home so he can win because our pick didn’t. Er...except possibly for the Palin bots that is. Then they can make Sarah a martyr and not just “Deborah” of the Bible. ;)
If you are going to whine like a rhino, at least inform the group who you support, ‘k?

I am the Undecided. Stuck like you trying to get one of the bench sitters off the bench, to shove away from the table cake, and run. I want to hear from Perry, maybe see how far Perry can take it. At least as I said before, he has bothered to at least light his pants on fire and initiated an exploration team to Iowa, and a money hunt, and line up some possible endorsements. What’s yours up to lately? Eating cake?
I am an American. I strive to keep the freedoms that my family has cherished on these shores since 1630. That family fought, they bled, they died.
And it wasn’t so I could home and pout when I don’t get my way, waiting for the perfect candidate.
I’m going to have to vote for someone who doesn’t agree with me on all issues. No candidate ever has or ever will.
You sit at home on your principles. I’ll fight the socialist Obama administration for you.
Stupid thread title.
Actually, he made a soft left turn right after being elected in 2000 and continue that trend. He only won in 04 because Kerry Edwards was perhaps the worst Dem ticket ever.
It’s not BDS - its BRS: Bush Reality Syndrome.
No more Bushes or any other dynasties !
Oh, my gosh! That’s hilarious!!! I’ve been told that all my life!! Only child syndrome, I suppose. ha! Seriously, very funneeee!! Looking for my trusty monitor mop now!! Surely you must know me! Thanks! :)
Go Jeb
Rita, your hypocrisy glows bright green!
No more Kenyans either. Or Obamas, to whatever one’s preference is.
LOL! The lonely cry of a Jeb supporter.
Yes, because most of you purists are too persnickity to back a candidate who can win.
I’ve heard too many FReepers vow to sit out an election on ideological grounds. There are certainly Americans whom I would wish to stay home on election day, but never a conservative.
Too many did in 2006, and we got Pelosi/Reid. Pure stupidity.
I’m a pragmatist. I’ll contribute time and money to get my most-favored candidates to the nomination. But if I don’t get my way at the Republican convention, I will back whoever that party puts on the ticket.
We must remove Obama from office. Period. And if it’s not an ideologically pure conservative who does it, I will still be thankful.
And that poster is really offensive to one who takes faith seriously.
Perhaps that’s what you intended.
Yep...
