A mother who shocked America by drowning her five children in the bathtub may be freed by the end of the year, according to her lawyer.
Andrea Yates systematically murdered her children, aged between six months and seven years, at her suburban Clear Lake, Texas, home ten years ago today.
She then dialled 911 and told the first police officer who arrived at the house: 'I just killed my kids.'

I will, but really, she needed to be put down.
“You want justice served? ha. She will live with this for the rest of her life...now that she is not psychotic and can see what she did.”
Good - maybe she’ll wake up, take her own life, and we can be done with this loser.
Afraid of mental illness?
Mental Illness is not an excuse, no one said she was not guilty of her actions.
Living with what she did is worse than any punishment a court could hand down.
WHAT?!
This poor, crazy woman, huh?
How can anyone assign guilt to someone other than the perpetrator?? This woman drowned her 5 children...did her husband tell her to? He may of been a domineering husband but what happened to personal responsibility?
Come-on FRiend, maybe I don't understand all of the circumstances, but I do know that people need to be accountable for their own actions!
And here in Oregon we do have the death penalty, but we're too liberal to execute anyone..:=(
I bet you’re a Christian too...ha, you are so sensitve and charming, much be a delight to all your friends.
Yes, the husband was fanatical and a tyrant. Very sad case, didn’t have to happen.
I do know the story....Five kids are dead....she killed them....end of story.
Your charm is to accommodate murderers. Good luck with that.
If she is aware of evil and repentant, why not let her watch your kids?
She’s here in the State Hospital in the town where I live. Scuttlebutt says she’s on medication and now knows what she did. I can’t imagine wanting to go on living realizing that you’ve murdered your own children.
Go read up on Postpartum Depression..THEN, get back to me.
You are a priori contempt to investigation. Can’t help you with that.
I'm not calling for the killing of anyone, just that justice be served..you do the crime, you serve the time; what's wrong with that?
I presume you have someone close to you with a similiar malady; I am not judging!
Just my humble opinion..
Did a period pass when Yates was ignorant of that episode? (And I don’t mean while unconscious, either.)
Sounds like you just judged!
Here in Texas we use the death penalty when it is warranted. This woman didn't deserve the death penalty. Her husband was a control freak, knew she had mental problems, and at ibe time they lived on a bus and she snapped. He might as well have put a contract out on the kids. He deserved Lorena Bobbit!!!!!
God told her to kill the kids "to save them." You don't think that's crazy.
You obviously missed a lot of info put out about this case...so I'll forgive your ignorance. LOL!
“I cant imagine wanting to go on living realizing that youve murdered your own children.”
Neither can I really. I don’t think she should be released, but in a home or hospital for the rest of her life. She might know now, but it cna’t possibly be a way to let her out. She might slip back into psychosis at any time and hse needs to be locked up.
And now that she is sane, she will have to live with the memories of what she did. May God help her.
That, i don’t know. I suppose only her doctors would know all the details as to timeline.
This incident happened after school was out and the only child that was old enough for school was the oldest child. Therefore, this excuse to put homeschooling in a bad light is based on wrong facts.
She was under mental health care but the shrink refused to put her on haldol. She was sane enough to call 911 immediately after she did the deed where she planned it out and acted in the hour between her husband leaving for work and her MIL coming in to help. She should have fried for this especially when she chased the oldest one around the house.
There is a reason why the state didn’t charge her for all of the murders.
