NBC issued an on-air apology Sunday for omitting the words "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance during its coverage of golf's U.S. Open.
The words were edited out of a clip of children reciting the oath -- a move immediately noted by viewers, who took to Twitter and various blogs to voice their anger, the Huffington Post reported.
In a statement during the broadcast, NBC commentator Dan Hicks said, "[snip] Regrettably, a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone and we'd like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it."

Excuse me, but this "on purpose" editing has me seeing red. Bastards!
That was an apology with their fingers crossed behind their backs...
IF
" .. It was not done to upset anyone .. "
Then WHY?
Not only did you not apologize, but you give no reason nor identify whom actually did the clip and whom told that one to do it.
This is bullshit ...
Totally unacceptatible apology.
Notice they didn’t say “accidently”. They said “regrettably”. And they only regret it because they didn’t expect folks to go ballistic on them.
They couldn’t even say “Under God” in their apology. It was just “a portion”.
And they knew darn well they would upset some folks, but it was only those stupid fundies clinging to guns and religion and they don’t count.
Boycott N(o) B(ody) C(ares)! Boycott their advertisers. This will come down to economic warfare. Somebody should be getting fired.
Seems I remember Obozo doing something similar recently. Wonder if his minions requested this?
I’m not even religious and this BS pisses me off.
It is what it is. They can’t pretend to make the parts they don’t like just go away.
Scumbag filth.
It was not “omitted,” as in, “forgetting to include”. . .it was intentionally edited out. Someone decided it was unacceptable. I want to know who and why. . .then we talk apology.
I noticed that on the Yahoo website, where I first saw this story, a lot of the comments were from atheist types that thought it was 'about time' we got God out of the public consciousness. They were really hating on Christians and it was depressing. I fear for our nation.
i’m all for leaving out ‘indivisible’ from the pledge myself
horse hockey
A true apology comes from the heart, not an attempt at a cleverly written email or news release.
Being sorry has nothing to do with being caught.... it takes much more than that.
Fire anyone involved in this disgusting event.
Their omission was intentional and they don’t have the gonads to admit it. Slimey M F er’s.
They just mentioned they apologized for leaving out words, not the words specifically. They did not say “we apologize for leaving out “under God ...etc” ... last I heard.
Have a little pity here - these NBC guys work with ball busting feminists - and now that twittering your 'package' is off limits, what are liberal men suppose to do?
They gotta prove themselves somehow, right?
Liberal men in MSM newsrooms can earn smiles from the women by taking on the right wing - all those crazy folks clinging to guns and religion... Do you have any idea how hard it is in that situation to take on right wingers? About as difficult as an SS goon taking on a Jew - - chew on that ...
I believe that NBC knew exactly what they were doing and just said “Sorry” after the fact. Seems like this is happening all the time now.
The irony is that they were trying to leverage “patriotism” (by their own admission). However, in doing so they pandered to the anti-God group who for the most part is also anti-patriotism. Thus, they managed to get everyone po’ed at the same time. Smooth move.
Emanations from the penumbra of Olbermann or is Maddow in charge of editing now?
