Has anyone here had dealings with the "Rainbow gathering" events? I have over 2000 Rainbow people of the Light participants so far coming through my community panhandling and trying to barter with beads and crystals. They are expecting up to 30,000 for their gathering July 1-7, but some are staying as late as Labor day. Does anyone have any statistics such as crime, pollution, or experiences with this group? Every day I see more walking past my house, this is the first time I have ever locked my doors since living there.
Hippies suck.
Do they know that the queers have co-opted the rainbow? Or ARE they queers?
You need to call an exterminator before you get a hippie jam fest.
Put up a fence and no trespassing signs. Otherwise your lawn will be turned into a campground. And I’m not sure how much the cops can/will do when 30,000 people need a place to sleep and their tent is already in your front yard.
Sounds like gay gypsies.
I’d trade them some magic crystals for some more 7.62 ammo.
Oh wow, that is like Burning Man level on the Hippie Alert System. Call the National Guard.
When I was going through basic training at Lackland AFB in 1960, recruits who were so new they hadn’t received their first issue of uniforms were called “rainbows” because of all the colors of their civilian clothes. Don’t know if that applies to other services.
In the age of DADT, it will have a whole new meaning.
You poor soul. What is your secret sin so to warrant this punishment? It looks like peace, love, harmony and community are coming to your neighborhood. All those terms when applied by the freaks means what is yours is mine, property, shame and public health go out the window. Keep us updated
Still held true in 1985. Did you call lifers “maggots?”
I have actual first-hand experience with these folks. Most are goofy and smelly and boring and predictable but not violent or criminal. A tiny percentage of sharks swim among them so you do have to be wary. They will bother you somewhat and then be gone forever. It’s no big deal, really.

let’s see, school is out so all the liberal professors, teachers and the students can slum around and have a hippy fest. Oh boy.
They were here in Texas some time back.
I hope you do nit make your living selling soap.
It starts with the drum circle hippies...and if you don’t nip it in the bud,
then the college know-it-all hippies show up.
They came up here about 10 years ago and camped in the Green Mountain National forest for about a month.
In general, at least back then, they were mostly benign, albeit smelly and annoying (and a lot of them). There were very few incidences of violence, the problems were mostly accidents or drug related (overdoses or stoners doing stupid things).
Some people make a fortune selling them bottled water, that’s what the townspeople in Highgate Vermont did when the Grateful Dead came up here about a decade ago. A “Rainbow Gathering” is like the mother of all Dead shows.
But nowadays even the hippies have more entitlement issues than they used to, and there’s a selfish sort of militancy in them that the older generation of them didn’t have as much of.
So you may have more problems with them than in past years.
I would lock your doors, for sure - you are unlikely to get murdered in your bed with them around but you’re not going to want strange stoned people foraging in your cabinets looking for munchies. Plus there are always hangers-on pretending to be hippies but actually looking to take advantage of people.
Good luck...
Like a wandering woodstock. Peace and love, brother.
They had a confab a couple of years ago in the Jemez Mts. N. of Albuquerque. Smelly dope smokers with an aversion to modernity. They will stress the Law Enforcement folks, they will leave a mess. No shortage of ambulance calls either.
No, just lifers. Some of my best friends were lifers. In fact just a few months after I was separated, I had considered going back in. Fate intervened and I didn’t.
