Poll: Time for Senator Orrin Hatch to go (59 percent of Utah voters want to retire RINO Hatch)

SALT LAKE CITY — A majority of Utah voters believe Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, has been in office too long and should be replaced, a new Deseret News/KSL-TV poll shows.

The poll by Dan Jones & Associates found only 38 percent of registered voters agree that it's important to re-elect Hatch in 2012 because of his seniority. Fifty-nine percent said after 36 years, it's time for someone new.

(snip)

Hatch's most likely GOP challenger appears to be Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah. In a primary race, 40 percent of poll respondents said they would vote for Hatch and 41 percent for Chaffetz.

(snip)

Last year, convention delegates defeated Sen. Bob Bennett's bid for re-election and sent two of his challengers to a GOP primary, where now Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, emerged as the nominee.

Chaffetz said he's still not ready to announce he's running for the Senate but was pleased with the poll results.

"I really am seriously considering doing it," Chaffetz said. "To be doing that well with the general public is astonishing, really. That's a very good sign."

Thirty-six year in Washington D.C. is more than sufficient time to destroy a man's judgment. And his relationship with the folks back home.

Orrin should be retired...on general principles.

Hatch was an important Republican/Conservative senator but he has lost his fire and some of his convictions. Time for him to retire gracefully and with honor.

Romney is not running for the Senate.

He’s a different story.

Nope.

LDS votes en block or en masse. Hence the question.

I have many friends who are LDS and even go so far as to visit Searchlight, NV for validation by one of their own.

I don’t care about their religion and Hatch at one time would have made a great president. You are right though, he has lost that spirit.

I have sat down and talked with Chaffetz twice in the little Juice and Java restaurant in Orem, Utah. I very much like the man. He accepts the responsibility, has the proper humble demeanor, has a very high intelligence, and understands what is at stake in the future of our republic. He can’t undo the past, but he’s one of the simplest, clearest thinkers to come out of Utah. He’s got my vote. In fact, he’s the reason I’m still Republican.

Sorry, but that tells me nothing.

Without knowing how rock solid he is or isn't on Illegal Immigration, limited government, social issues, globalism, and foreign policy, all this sounds like is a bunch of platitudes.

Where is he on the issues?

What is his history on his position on the issues?

Is he like Romney, a flip-flopper?

Or is he like Perry, a somewhat recent convert to conservatism?

I love the fact that Hatch was a Reagan supporter in 1976 and that was the deciding factor in his being nominated over a Ford supporter. Having said that, I believe he has been there too long and frankly has been too civil; his friendship with Ted Kennedy was an example of that. My personal style preference is that of Jesse Helms who had nothing to do with Senator Kennedy in or out of the Senate.

Hatch has been talking a good game for the past few months, before that he was RINO through and through. He needs to go.
Hatch is a great example of why we need term limits, three terms for senate, 6 for the house. Best case, even if they are staunch conservative, after a few terms in DC, they get Potomac fever.

Hatch?
Hatch?

Is that the same Hatch who tried to change the constitutional requirements for potus?????

Supposedly so Arnold The Impregnator would be qualified for potus?
But who knows if Arnold was the one he had in mind, at the time, or not????

Hatch’s letters to his constituents regarding Obama’s eligibility were INSULTING! Hatch copied his letters from the DNC talking points.

It’s way past time for all these dinosaurs, who think we can’t live with their judgement, to go. They are a big part of the reason we are in this mess now.
