McCain uneasy over Republican 'isolationism' (McCain praises Obama for starting war in Libya)

WASHINGTON — US Senator John McCain on Sunday expressed concern about growing isolationism in the Republican party, particularly among those vying for the 2012 presidential nomination.

McCain, the 2008 Republican nominee, said he was alarmed to hear various candidates at a campaign forum last Monday express opposition to US military involvement in the NATO military assault on Libya's Moamer Kadhafi.

"There's always been an isolation strain in the Republican party, that Pat Buchanan (a former Republican presidential contender) wing of our party. But now it seems to have moved more center stage, so to speak," he said.

There is no question that President Barack Obama, a Democrat, made the right choice in lending US military support to the NATO mission in Libya, McCain told ABC's "This Week" program.

"If we had not intervened, Kadhafi was at the gates of Benghazi. He said he was going to go house to house to kill everybody. That's a city of 700,000 people. What would be saying now if we had allowed for that to happen?

"That's not the Republican party of the 20th century and now the 21st century," McCain said.

You are so eager to defend the nationals of other nations when you refused to defend your fellow citizens from the hordes of criminal aliens, gang bangers, and drug runners coming across our southern border.

FUJM!!!

McCain is the guy who consistently wants to cut Defense spending.
He also wants to start a bunch of wars.

He's an idiot.

I hope conservatives are starting to learn that overseas intervention is not conservative. The fact that McCain and Graham are the biggest chearleaders of the war in Libya should tell you something.

Yep. He voted for the START treaty that guts our nuclear weapons capabilities, but yet he wants us to go to war for “humanitarian reasons.” He’s a joke.

McCain has said a number of things lately that makes me seriously think that he is showing early signs of dementia.

I hope conservatives talk radio and Fox News Republicans are starting to learn that overseas intervention is not conservative. The fact that McCain and Graham are the biggest cheerleaders of the war in Libya should tell you something.

Fixed it for ya'. ;)

Real conservatives always knew that. We got drowned out by the neocons and Bushbots and political hacks for a decade or so.

Hyperbole and nonsense. How could they possibly know what Quadaffi would or would not have done. Even if he was ‘threatening’ this, is does not mean he was serious.

This administration is known for ‘the sky is falling’ hyperbole.

Unless we pass the stimulus bill, the WHOLE WORLD WILL END IN 10 DAYS!!!

Unless we pass Obamacare, EVERYONE IS GOING TO DIE IN 10 DAYS!!!

It all comes down to, either we do whatever we want or there will be some catastrophic disaster.

I don't think people are falling for this BS anymore.

McCain is a pathological butt-licker. He probably picked that up in Viet Nam.

Trust me,
if Ron Paul was President,
if Palin was President,
if Nader was President,
if Romney was President,
if Pelosi was President,

they would all be GREAT! PERFECT! WONDERFUL!

McCain doesn't really care. He just kisses the butt of whomever is in charge. Opportunistic Jerk is what he is.

"If we had not intervened, Kadhafi was at the gates of Benghazi. He said he was going to go house to house to kill everybody. That's a city of 700,000 people. ..."

Why would he do that? Is the entire city of Benghazi anti-Qaddafi? They don't seem to be in Tripoli. What has been the result of 0bie/NATO's half-stepping bombing campaign? They won't do what it takes to defeat Qaddafi so it has become a perpetual conflict where both sides continue to take casualties. It is the perfect strategy to insure never-ending death and destruction. The "No Goals" Kinetic Military Action.

Unless the US government tells us, then get rid of them. It is our life and heritage, not theirs.
