Reports have it that America's current longest-serving Governor, Texas Republican Rick Perry, may enter the 2012 Republican presidential primary race. While Tim Pawlenty is my favorite within the group who already have declared that they are seeking the Republican nomination, I hope that Perry gets into the race. If he does, Republican voters and Americans in general should want to see the Governor of America's second-largest state and the current Chairman of the Republican Governor's Association to go and win the Republican Primary and then the White House too.
Here is why:
The budget numbers change as the weeks go by because negotiations and votes are ongoing to complete current and future budget expenditures. The bottom line however is that Texas beats most states in terms of spending per capita and spending compared to its economic size, yet the state is still the most successful in terms of the recovery and jobs. Its deficits are relatively low compared to most other states (looking at the pure dollar sums of deficits is a misleading tactic by liberals who want to put down the anti-labor unions State of Texas. Objective economists however look on deficits as compared to the population and compared to the economic size; Texas shines by these measures.) Perry's economic and fiscal record of the last ten-plus years beats the reckless policies of the Democrats and President Obama in Washington who -- since taking power of the Congress in 2007 and control of the White House two years later -- have ushered in a cascade of economic misery with no end it site.
Indeed, Perry will have some explaining to do as to why Texas has one of the worst ratings on the Health Care coverage and access front. Furthermore, few conservatives will be happy when they will learn that in the 1980's Perry was a few times elected to the Texas State House as a Democrat and that he was the Texas Chairman of Al Gore's 1988 failed presidential campaign. (Perry switched parties in 1990.) However, no candidate or chief executive is perfect and stainless on all issues. At a time when most Americans rate the economy as poor and when 48% in a CNN poll expect an economic depression in the next twelve months, it is time for Obama to pack his bags and let Perry take over.

I've just about given up all hope of a real genuine conservative president or congress every being voted into office, *ever* again.
The government has intentionally flooded and diluted the country with tens *millions* both legal and illegal, who could care less about borders, freedom, guns, morals, rule of law, American unity, American nationalism, citizenship, small government, etc, etc...
It's why they *all* pander to the Hispanics, illegals, all multi-culti special interest groups and other country killing BS...This is no secret.
It's pretty damn depressing.
Should have attached a sarc notation about Lil Deb.
To one degree or another elections are always about selecting the lesser of two evils. If any were perfect they’d be Saints instead of politicians.
Do an internet search for “Rick Perry” and Merck, and you’ll get plenty of other stories about the Gardasil fiasco. It wasn’t just about parents opting out, but about Perry’s hands in pharmaceutical pockets.
As usual.
No, not really- He did support a mandatory immunization, with a parental opt-out. Not quite the same thing. But he did support the Trans Texas Corridor, which the people sort of overruled him on.
I’m still waiting for Perry to put that anti groping bill on the special legislative session. If he doesn’t then I don’t think he’s the guy for me.
Perry is Romney 2.0, without the obvious warts. He is being promoted by the MSM and the RINO RNC in the hope that the Republican base will buy into him. This is obviously their fallback plan since Romney is unsaleable to the base even though you would think he walks on water based on the positive press. Perry, Romney, and Obama are all international globalists types who will maintain business as usual to make sure America ends up on the short end of the stick while the globalists economically strip mine us and flood us with illegal immigrants to dissolve our countries ability to break out of the “free” trade death grip.
The one that believed that GWB/Haliburton/Cheney took down the WTC?
If he gets in the race, he’s my number one with a bullet. I think he’s a race changer, and suddenly Obama will be in real danger.
Research it yourself, sport: article says "America's current longest-serving governor" - to the average person, that means, well, exactly what it says: the one who is currently serving and has been there longest. Branstad was sworn in January of this year, correct?
LOL... Folks not hatin’ on Texas hard enough for your taste?
That's not the sort of freedom that the Founders of this nation bequeathed to us. You shouldn't have to "opt out" of a draconian, and intrusive government mandated vaccine program.
How about opting IN, instead? That would be the American way.
Perry failed the American test on that, and on many other issues here in Texas. The man literally needs to be whacked over the head with basic American principles to see them.
Who cares what any politician says? Better to check their records and see what they've done.
The vaccine itself had been approved by the FDA the prior year and recommended by the CDA and American Pediatric Association before he took this action.
I remember the battle very well here on FR. It was between the "nannystate" alarmists (yet parents could opt out), the anti-vaccine kooks and the "it'll cause teens to have sex" nitwits.
I've already seen the anti-vaccination lobby has already lined up against a possible Perry run with at least one story in the press.
You can't just attack Perry and have no alternative to suggest. If you think there's better NAME NAMES. We need to know who to look at.
Who is your alternative? Name names. We need to know who to look at.
Do you support other vaccine requirements for school kids or are you anti-vaccine?
And? So, you've informed yourself about the TTC project, and you're ok with what Perry tried to do? I suppose you are, because you're still defending him.
As for other issues, Perry has been all hat and no cattle on illegal immigration. Our legislature was in regular session this year, and Perry never once called for a strong anti-illegal immigration bill from them, even though five such bills were languishing in the House.
Now that he's positioning himself to make a run for the White House, he's suddenly gotten interested in the subject, and during our legislature's special session, he called for an anti-sanctuary city bill.
Color me unimpressed.
But don't let me be your sole source of Perry facts and figures. Read what other Texas Freepers have to say about this slick political opportunist.
Of course I can attack Perry without suggesting an alternative. A “suggestion” isn’t going to mount a campaign, and I’m powerless to conjure up the ideal candidate and hand him the nomination.
Frankly, there’s no one in the field right now that excites me, but Perry is not the golden boy conservatives want him to be.
What I can do is tell you, from first-hand observation of more than a decade, that Perry isn’t what he appears to be.
Don’t you wish the electorate had known that about Obama?
Take it or leave it.
I thought more of Gov. Perry before I watched his speech. His speech mannerisms was a little too ‘theatrical, for me.
He was glued to his script and was halting in his delivery.
It tells me he isn’t truly passionate about his beliefs. A passionate man needs only notations about what points to cover.
Yep, that’s the paulistas’ girl.
