NEW ORLEANS -- Rick Perry delivered an unapologetically socially conservative speech before a friendly crowd here.
We need to stop apologizing for celebrating life, the Republican Texas governor bellowed at the Republican Leadership Conference in a finger-pointing, finger-wagging and, at times, bombastic, speech.
Stop apologizing for wanting to stem the tide of the entitlement mindset, he boasted.
Our opponents on the left are never going to like us, so lets stop trying to curry favor with them, he said, before imploring the crowd to stand up. Lets speak with pride about our values. Lets stop this American downward spiral.
He acknowledged later with a smile, Im preaching to the choir here."
Perry did not address the speculation surrounding his potential run for president and did not take questions after his speech. Instead, after bounding off the stage to chants of, Run, Rick, run, pumping his fists, and shaking hands with audience members, he headed backstage and did not reemerge in the hallways here.
Of all the speakers of the three-day confab, Perry was the best-received, even more so than Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), who was a close second. Perry got a standing ovation when he took the stage, several times during his speech, and at the end.
Hes the man, one man said to a woman right after Perrys speech.

He is electable, but he is not conservative. People will make up that he is, but he really is not.
If it is him against Obama, I will have to vote for him, but it wont be a vote that advances conservatism at all. Very sad.

Well, that convinces me. If that is your sincere opinion he is probably a good choice.
Suit yourself. My opinions are every bit as good as yours may prove to be.
I feel kind of bad for you.
My sainted spouse has been saying for the past week or so that if Perry enters, Palin will endorse him and opt out of running herself. That prognostication is as good as yours or mine at this point.
A fine story.
“..So, I took her to Buda, Texas, and drove her around, showing her Texas Hatters, the feed store, a tractor dealership and so forth..”
And you didn’t take her to Cabelas or the Broken Spoke or the Salt Lick or Schlitterbahn? What’s the matter with you?
This is just a warmup band to the BIG show....
RUN SARAH RUN !!!!
If he’s the guy we have to unite behind to defeat Obomney, then so be it.
McCAIN: Yes, I wonder what Ronald Reagan would be saying today.
Just this week I believe Peryy signed a loser pay lawsuit reform bill.
As of now, he’s my guy. He will run. Palin won’t.
While Schlitterbahn is not in Buda, let me say this about that...
Schlitterbahn!!!!
“I feel kind of bad for you.”
Per usual, you miss the mark.
Well, some of those places did not yet exist, and I was always almost broke. I don’t know if the son has continued the business at Texas Hatters, and if it is still in business or not. Loved going into that place. The girlfriend went on to a more conventional marriage, and has achieved some success in her field, for which I am glad. I strongly suspect that her husband has never been to Buda, unlike his adventurous wife.
God I miss Texas.
“He will run. Palin wont.”
I am not sure you are correct, but if you are it will keep my decision tree simple.
IIRC McCain was out of money and basically dead in the water after New Hampshire and Iowa. He really never got off the ground running until South Carolina, which means that he was effectively only beginning his campaign in February 2008. He pulled off a come from behind slaughter of the candidates who were left standing.
I frankly think that anyone who tosses their hat into the ring more than 6 months before the first primary is a fool.
Additionally if the Republican convention had been delayed by a month, McCain would be president today.
Is he a politician? If so, are his lips moving? If so, then he most likely is lying.
Same here in California, hope it stays that way.
People need to peruse the Congressional record or a few lawsuits to understand why Congress leaves room for exemptions when it comes to using vaccines.
He’s a couple steps up from Trump.
And unless I’m mistaken, those are Aggies, baby!
We have a conservative house, Lets nuke Obama
Ted Nugent for secretary of the interior!
