Obama impersonator crosses the line at RLC

A comedian impersonating President Obama made racially tinged jokes Saturday at the Republican Leadership Conference before being pulled off the stage by an event organizer.

The Obama impersonator, Reggie Brown, said that while the First Lady celebrated all of Black History Month, the bi-racial president only celebrated half the month. Continue Reading

Brown also said: "My mother loved a black man, and she was not a Kardashian."

Flashing a picture on the screen of Fred Sanford of “Sanford and Son” fame, the comedian said that’s what Obama would look like when he got older.

Brown didn’t just limit his jokes to Obama, though. He also mocked Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith, ridiculed Newt Gingrich’s faltering campaign and suggested Tim Pawlenty needed a spinal transplant.

As Brown was preparing to make a Michele Bachmann joke, one of the conference’s officials came out to the lectern and told the comedian to leave the stage.

It was a remarkable display and came just one day after two high-profile Republicans —- Haley Barbour and Bobby Jindal — urged activists to focus only on going after Obama on policy and not engage in personal attacks.

Did any of the morons-in-charge there think of vetting this "comedian" first?

Sheesh.

Which is precisely why neither Jindal nor Barbour are capable of leading the party. It is ONLY about Obama. Obama IS HIS POLICIES.

His Royal Messiahship is displeased.

From now on, all humor must be pre-approved by the Comedy Czar.

No unlicensed jokes are allowed and are considered contraband subject to fine and/or imprisonment.

I thought his comments were pretty funny and accurate, personally. But RINOs are extremely sensitive and have no sense of humor.

First of all I don’t see anything wrong with these jokes.

Second, all they did was set it up for the dems and the media to condemn them for hiring the guy in the first place. Leave it to the GOP to shoot themselves in the foot.

He made fun of Obama and was pretty good. He took a few shots at other politicians too but he did get laughs and people have to deal with a roasting. He was funny and looked like Obama.

Good God. Jonathon Martin calls this “a remarkable display”? I say his article is a remarkable display of irrelevance and conflation between two separate events.

But was it a roast?

From what I understand, at a roast, the "target" is present onstage. The point of it is to get the target to join with others in laughing at himself, and the event can be very funny.

So this wasn't really a roast.

So was it coarse and adolescent? I think so. And apparently I'm not alone, as the "adults" in charge eventually yanked him from the stage before he could make another coarse and adolescent joke (this one would have targeted Michelle Bachmann).

That all said, my real beef with this story is this: Why would a group of social conservatives (I'm referring to the Republican leadership [Ha! Ha! I just made myself laugh by referring to the GOP leadership as socially conservative!]) -- I'll start again: Why would a group of "putative" social conservatives hire a vulgar punk to entertain them?

What is wrong with the GOP "leadership"? Is this their idea of being relevant and hip?

I’m pretty conservative and I don’t think these jokes were that bad. Obama is 1/2 black, so what? If Leno or Letterman said these same things no one would care.

Now why would I get pissed off as a conservative? I’m Italian Irish and my mom is half-Asian. Heck, I found the jokes hilarious. If you are offended, then you are a liberal.
