Those clod poles, neer-do-wells, vandals, punks, thugs and assorted clueless dolts who smacked people around, piled on others, fought with and sought to injure police, set fire to cars, broke into stores, trashed and looted at will in Vancouver Wednesday night all are a pathetic pack of cowardly destructive losers. {snip}
There arent any excuses for what they did. None. None. At. All. If these whiny, pampered, useless sacks of skin even try to claim it was because their team lost, then they havent got the intelligence of a ball of mud. {SNIP} The damage was one thing. The insolence is altogether another. Consider what they did.
These vulgarians defecated on the reputation of one of Canadas first cities. They hurt the stores and the employment of honest city-caring people in Vancouver. They sprayed dirt and worse into the face of every half decent sports fan in all of North America. They turned what was even with the loss a moment of intense national interest and pride into a world-class embarrassment, an ugly, bloody, ignorant and arrogant stain on the city that hosted the Olympics.
{snip}
Riots should not be written-off as pranks. Mayhem shouldnt be passed over as the actions of a violent few. Tearing the heart out of a city, ripping up its stores, despoiling its reputation, and setting its citizens for a while in a state of fear should draw the just, angry and full attention of the state. Vancouver deserved better Wednesday night. {SNIP}
The rioters are a third-rate band of losers who still managed to cast a shadow on what should have been win or lose a wonderful night for all the country. Everyone in Canada who loves hockey and Canada despises these people. {SNIP}

Nicely said.
Thanks for the info. I watched some of it live, and I was struck by the passivity of the police. There didn’t appear to be any fear of arrest on the part of the rioters, either. I hope they make examples out of some of the most violent offenders, but as you said the odds look bleak.
I’ve heard them called “Canuckleheads”. I suppose there’s a reason for that.
The proper response would have included 20 or 30 well-armed men, carrying an assortment of 12-gauge automatic shotguns, high-powered 308 carbine rifles, a few 50-cal machine guns, 45 cal pistols and baseball bats (for “up close and personal” work) ...
Rip loose on the a$$holes—then go back and finish off whatever is still moving. Problem fixed.
That is how you deal with this sort of street thug. Wipe them out. That sends the right message to the next bunch of similarly-inclined a$$holes.
A “whiff of grapeshot” worked well for Napoleon.
I said early on that a quick application of Rule 308 to the most visible, extreme acting rioters is what was needed. Or, given Canada’s use of the metric system, perhaps we should refer to this as Rule 7.62.
They could also use some Korean shop owner mentality among the citizenry.

OK, LMBO on that. Nicely done!
Oh, and by the way, I saw some photos that included a number of police mounted on horseback. However, they were not trotting into knots of rioters with 4’ nightsticks swinging and taking care of business, so they were as less-than-optimally-useful as the rest of the police seemed to be.
Where do you think they learned it? Though you'll note that in the US, it tends to happen only in the anti-gun liberal cities. I don't think they'd try this stunt in, say, Kennesaw, Georgia or Jackson, Tennessee!
Mounted police - if the both the horses and officers are well trained - are unbelievable at crowd control. Truly awesome.
I suspect they were held in reserve for a last resort.
Riot all you want, Canadians. Nothing will erase the damage we did to you this year and the shame you brought to the game with all your biting and diving theatrics.
The Big, Bad Bruins say hello!
Those Koreans are doing it right. They know how to protect their property. I’d do the same if it happened here.
Exactly, a lot of us would.
My daughter lives in Vancouver and says everybody there is aghast at what happened. She says it was the anarchists out in force and the event had been planned long in advance — they just rode on the coattails of the game. Apparently, the morning after, about 20,000 volunteers showed up to clean up the mess left behind by the scum. The anarchists seem to love the NW - Vancouver, Seattle, Portland.
There was no Stanley Cup riot in Buffalo NY in 1999. Wikipedia is wrong on that one.
Say, if the power goes out for an extended period, and there are no ATMs, gas stations or supermarkets functioning?
If this is how they react to losing a hockey game?
But they're right in there with the Greeks. Just wait until it's like that, all the time, everywhere.
