Tea Party group targets Orrin Hatch for defeat

Conservative PAC FreedomWorks, a prominent Tea Party group chaired by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, is targeting Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch in the 2012 Senate race.

The group, arguing Hatch has insufficiently conservative economic views, is launching the so-called "Retire Orrin Hatch" campaign at Utah's Republican Convention on Saturday.

"It's clear that Senator Hatch is trying to capitalize on the popularity of the Tea Party movement by reinventing himself as a fiscal conservative," said Russ Walker, Vice President of Political and Grassroots Campaigns for FreedomWorks PAC, in a statement. "But his recent rhetoric and actions in favor of limited government simply do not erase decades of bad votes, costing taxpayers trillions of dollars. Indeed Hatch's body of work proves he cannot be trusted to consistently adhere to a fiscally conservative agenda, and possible primary challengers like Representative Jason Chaffetz (R-3, UT)give conservatives in Utah and around the country a great opportunity to trade up."

Better and easier to make a list of GOP Senators to NOT toss out in the primaries.

The whole US Senate is a cesspool of the most slimy reptilian backstabbing treasonous scumbags on the face of the earth.

Listening to Mark Levin and talking on the phone last night, but I thought I heard Hatch talking and Mark was endorsing him. Was I dreaming?

Surprisingly Mark Levin supports Hatch’s reelection.

I heard Hatch speaking on the radio about a month ago and he was more animated and strident against Obama than I’ve really every heard him. Afterward, Hedgecock or whoever it was that was interviewing him did make that point and also that Hatch was being challenged by a Tea Party candidate. It made sense. Hatch can’t be counted on after the election to maintain that conservative tone.

The Old Guard on both sides are not capable in dealing with today’s issues. Hatch is among many that need to be retired, so a new group can save this great country.

Lamar Alexander, my senator needs to be put out to pasture as well.

Interesting. Levin was praising this fellow the other day. He indicated Orrin voted conservative over 80% of the time and fought for conservative judges etc. I seem to recall he was conservative until it was time to stand up to major socialist legislation...he then found a reason to support it or not vote. I must disagree with Mark in this case.

Targeting? I thought "targeting" was taboo after the Sarah Palin crosshairs thing. Isn't CBS promoting violence with such inflammatory language? Won't CBS have to take responsibility for promoting a culture of violence the next time some left wing whacko takes a shot at a politician?

There’s two choices -

Audible violence or physical violence.

Right now, we’re still in the audible stage.

Buy ammo for the next stage.

I agree with you. Although Levin is my favorite radio talker, I think he overrates the value of Hatch’s experience in getting things done should conservatives take the Senate and Presidency in 2012. Utah’s Bennett is gone and he had as much experience as Hatch and I would rather have Mike Lee any day. Levin is thinking we can’t do without these guys., but maybe he needs to brush up on this:

The Indispensable Man
Saxon N. White Kessinger ©1959

Sometime when you’re feeling important
Sometime when your ego’s in bloom
Sometime when you take it for granted
You’re the best qualified man in the room,
Sometime when you feel that your going
Would leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow these simple instructions
And see how it humbles your soul.
Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Put your hand in it up to the wrist,
Pull it out, and the hole that’s remaining
Is the measure of how you’ll be missed.
You may splash all you please when you enter,
You may stir up the water galore,
But stop; and you’ll see in a moment
That it looks quite the same as before!
The moral in this quaint example
Is to do just the best that you can;
Be proud of yourself but remember -
There is no indispensable man...

Orrin Hatch would do himself proud if he announced he was retiring, and simultaneously introduced and endorsed a successor...

Don’t hold your breath.....Orrin really wants what all lifelong US Senators want....

To be laid out in repose in the Capital Rotunda...

If Hatch and Lugar would do a suicide pact, they could lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda together. What an event that would be; Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dumber on display.
