“Recovery Mission” and “High Five” bring back memories of shipmates who served in Harbor Clearance Unit way back when.

One was a classmate in Diving School and the other a Chief Petty Officer in the Diving Locker aboard USS PIEDMONT (AD-17). Great guys!!!

I took my son to Black Sand beach, to Queen's Bath, the Visitor's Center in the Nat'l Park and to the drive in once or twice when he was very young. They are no more, the highway ends on both ends where the lava flows went through years ago....and continues to this day.

But on the bright side, the Painted Church was lifted on a trailer out of the area and transported to a new home before the flows got there.

It's new home is Honaunau.

It is such a pretty church...glad they were able to save it.

I think you’ve mentioned before that all the people were able to get themselves and their belongings out.
