When the architects of apartheid South Africa were drawing up their urban plans, they paid special attention to the highways. In the seaside city of Cape Town, for instance, the white rulers pushed tens of thousands of blacks and people of mixed racial ancestry out of the cities and into squatter camps several miles outside the city, in a barren wasteland that came to be known as the Cape Flats.
The government then built highways from the city center out to the flats and beyond. The idea was simple. In the event of an armed insurrection by the black majority, the South African army, controlled by the white minority, would be able to rush out along the highways with tanks and armored personnel carriers to crush the rebels.
Furthermore, when the government deigned to formalize the squatter camps and build proper homes for the residents, they also made sure to ring the camps with a Byzantine network of roads that encircled the population. There was one way in and one way out, and this too made it easier for government forces to crush would-be opponents. The flats were designed to be a sort of prison -- an open air prison, to be sure -- but a prison nonetheless.
The history of the white man's oppression of black people was the subject of a recent conversation I had with a professor at UCLA. His name is Boyd James. He's originally from Trinidad, and he speaks with a deeply resonant, Caribbean-inflected accent.

Not if you discount about 4 or 5 thousang years of human history.
A peaceful slavery...ROFLMAO!!! I guess if you keep your head down and don’t get uppity with them it might be peaceful.
I’m as compassionate as I know how to be, so it must just be ignorance and a poor upbringing on my part. Or perhaps your dog
Black (ex-slave) immigrants from the Caribbean who live in NY city have a higher average income than the White majority.
I saw one of those immigrants quoted saying,"Isn't America wonderful, anyone here can get rich just by working hard".
"Times up and sorry the blow gun does not count as it was in use in South America long ago too."
This weapon dates back thousands of years, however the specific time of origin is unknown. Although the blowgun was used (and still is) throughout the world, there is no actual records of it's use by the Pygmies or Forest People of Africa. I believe the blowgun originated in S.E. Asia, for there are records dealing with its use throughout this area, including Malaysia, New Guinea and Borneo. It was probably taken by migrating peoples to what is now Japan. There blowguns carved from ivory are still intact. Blowguns are not used in warfare unless by the under strength insurgent groups, such as in the Philippines during the Spanish American war.
For some reason American blacks think they are the only people ever enslaved in the history of the world. The entire history of the world consists of stronger cultures colonizing and enslaving weaker cultures, which are eventually assimilated.
Wouldn’t the stone axe or stone hammer be a sub-saharan african invention?
“I was asked once if I was a racist.”
Racists are people who are winning an argument over a liberal.
“Is this guy a affirmative action scholar or a regular scholar?”
That’s the exact question I was asking myself. His ‘arguments’ wouldn’t pass muster in any critical thinking course I could name.
