HOUSTON (AP) -- An aide to wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords says the Arizona congresswoman could be released from her rehabilitation hospital in Houston as early as this month.
Chief of Staff Pia Carusone tells The Associated Press that the congresswoman may leave TIRR Memorial Hermann by the end of this month or early July. However, there is no set date for Giffords' release.
Her husband astronaut Mark Kelly has said she would continue outpatient therapy in Houston upon her release.

Dems are thinking of running her for the Senate. Use the pity trick to get that seat as a dem one.
Not meaning any disrespect but if she is a bit of a head of lettuce she may fit in well with the other senators.
Pretty stupid though to run another mentally challenged person for office.

Giffords beat Jesse Kelly (R) in AZ-08 by only 1.5% last November. Kelly is back for a rematch and is on the ground running already.
Dems probably have another six months to decide if Giffords can run and if not, to field another candidate.
Giffords was touted as a challenger for the Senate seat being vacated by Jon Kyl. Obviously, that is out of the question.
I fear they’d run her damn husband and win on the sympathy vote.
But never the less, she’s impaired and may be for years if not forever. She can’t do her job, she needs to resign. But I bet she remains and just doesn’t run again in 2012.

We have an Imperial President, we have no need of a Senate or Judiciary, except as a fig-leaf of legitimacy. And for that fig-leaf we need bodies in the seats, no brains/independent thoughts is a plus.
But I bet she remains and just doesn’t run again in 2012.
Assuming, as Mike Darancette noted, that we actually have an election.
Don't worry, Mike, we will have an election. When all 400 million votes are counted, Obama and his minions will have won the most stunning (and uncontested) landslide in American history.
They still need the "popular vote" fig-leaf.

I’m not familiar with Mr Gifford’s politics, so I don’t know if that would be politically good or bad for Conservatives in Rep Gifford’s district.
Tough call regarding Rep Gifford’s district. Arguably, the spirit of her politics should endure for at least the remainder of her term. Criminal behavior should not influence political direction.

No doubt there are other districts that would prefer their reps to voluntarily step down as “no representation” would be better than the “alternative” destructive representation practiced by the districts’ elected officials.

Last election the courts had absolutely no problems with areas where the votes cast and counted outnumbered the eligible voters.
The precedent has been established.
Here is what her Chief-Of-Staff said:
"If she were to plateau today, and this was as far as she gets, it would not be nearly the quality of life she had before," Giffords' chief of staff Pia Carusone told the Arizona Republic last week. "There's no comparison. All that we can hope for is that she won't plateau today and that she'll keep going and that when she does plateau, it will be at a place far away from here."
If this is as far as she gets - she won't even be as good as Jim Brady [and he OBVIOUSLY cannot hold a legislative seat].
It would be like the Dems putting Kramer [from Seinfeld] up for election when he was shot up with Novacaine from the dentist.
GOP would wipe the floor with her [intellectually] in a debate since she does not have full control of her cognitive faculties [ie: short-term and long-term memory]
Like any politician, or their handlers, the pictures and this story are out today because of the tone of the story late last week regarding the pace of her recovery.
