President and Mrs. Obama hosted a decidedly more subtle state dinner for German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the White House Tuesday evening.
Though Mr. Obama presented Merkel with his highest honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the dinner otherwise lacked the glitz and glamour of the Obama administration-- with one noticeable exception.
First Lady Michelle Obama wore a shimmery ivory sleeveless gown by Naeem Khan, a designer she favors and also donned at the president's first state dinner in 2009.
Naeem Khan gowns retail from $5,000-$15,000.
Khan told the Wall Street Journal the first dress he made for Mrs. Obama was "priceless."
Known for her fashion, Mrs. Obama accessorized Tuesday with gold bangles by Alexis Bittar, which range in cost from $145-$695 per bracelet.

Lowkey evening? Now the media is trying to cover it all up by making it sound as if they sat around a campfire singing songs and toasting marshmallows. A $5000 dress for a wildebeast? She would have looked better in one of Omars tents.
At least she didn’t embarrass us this time, for a change. And I doubt she paid for the gown. Most designers loan gowns to the current first lady just for the free advertising it represents.
She looks nice, but the look is not worth the mega bucks the dress and jewelry cost. In some of the pics it looks a bit like a sparkly nightie. A beautiful necklace would have been better than all those bangles.
I like the dress, but there is something ‘wrong’ with everything she wears. This dress has a train...a train and is a little long anyway. So she winds up walking around hitching it up all night. Besides her posture is always terrible. Go through all the photos and she is not standing up straight in one of them. Her shoulders are always hunched forward. Ruins the look of whatever she wears.
From Wikipedia:

I believe that the flack that Mrs. Reagan took was because she had friends that loaned her the dresses. Didn’t cost the taxpayers a red cent.
The dress certainly had more class than the one wearing it. Of course the same thing could be said of a burlap bag. Just say’n
More tone deafness from Marie Obamanette
Nope, it didn’t work.
To me she still looks like a knuckle dragging, monster butted, people eating, Black racist, white hating, arrogant, country hating, freeloading bitch.
That THING is not my First Lady and I don’t care what she wears or how much it cost, she is one butt ugly... Creature From The Black Lagoon.

A piece of crap wrapped up in a gift box is still a piece of crap when it’s opened.
The dress was beautiful. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for the woman wearing it.
