As Sarah Palin toys with running for the US presidency, voters have apparently made up their minds for her.
A new CBS News opinion poll shows 66 per cent do not want the former Republican vice-presidential candidate to enter the White House race.
Most informative for Ms Palin's deliberations is a breakdown of the poll results indicating 54 per cent of Republican voters and 50 per cent of ultra-conservative Tea Party supporters do not want her to seek her party's nomination.
The former Alaskan governor, who attracts considerable publicity because of her unconventional style, public gaffes and charismatic appeal among some conservative voters, said months ago she would only run "if there's nobody else to do it". Dissatisfaction with a weak field of Republican contenders to match Democrat President Barack Obama has helped keep her name in the spotlight.
Ms Palin did nothing to discourage questions about her ambitions during a highly publicised "One Nation" bus tour of eastern US states over the past fortnight. The purpose of the tour has yet to be explained.
In a sign her campaign could be over even before it starts, only 34 per cent of Republican voters and 38 per cent of Tea Party supporters in the poll want Ms Palin to seek her party's nomination.
She faces renewed scrutiny overnight when more than 24,000 pages of emails she sent as Alaskan governor will be released almost three years after they were requested by journalists and local political activists.
With much criticism over her past administration in Alaska, there is intense speculation about the contents of six boxes of emails to be released.
Ms Palin is not the only troubled Republican. The White House campaign of former house Speaker Newt Gingrich collapsed yesterday when his campaign manager and senior strategists resigned en masse.
Dave Carney, an experienced Republican strategist who was among those to quit, said the walkout occurred after a meeting in which it was agreed Mr Gingrich lacked commitment and a vision for his campaign.
The last straw after weeks of disorganisation and a shortage of funds to cover high-paid staff appears to have been Mr Gingrich's decision to take his wife, Callista, on a two-week holiday in the Greek islands when his team wanted him on the campaign trail in Iowa.
In a Facebook posting, Mr Gingrich said he was committed to "a substantive, solutions-oriented campaign" and would launch it "anew" tomorrow.
Hopefully Sarah has her own pollsters.
Has there ever been a poll about whether or not Mitt should run?
The Old Media want the GOP to pick Mitt for Brains as the nominee because they know they can demonize him, especially being a Mormon, and grease the way for Obama’s second term. The more they tear down Palin, the more inclined I am to believe that she can beat Obama and they know it. After her performance on last weeks Fox News Sunday I say she could be 10 times the President that Obama is now after 2 1/2 years of flubbing.
“If Sarah Palin really was unelectable, state-controlled media would be begging the GOP to nominate her.”
But they ARE begging the GOP to nominate her! They’re using reverse psychology; they know their approval is the kiss of death, to us conservatives. If they really feared her, they would ignore her.
OK. Gotta buy tinfoil. /s
Run, Sarah - on your own schedule and according to your own strategy. Run and Win.
They want Perry to satiate Palin supporters...but he will give us a national DREAM ACT and guest worker program for all the invaders. He is not an enforcement candidate.
Me, too!
ROTFLMAO!!!
OMG!!!
That is too funny.
These guys will make anything up.
If she runs... and turns out to be the idiot that the press claims she is... no harm no foul, because she wont get the republican nomination anyway, and a better candidate will beat Obama in 12.
If she runs... and turns out to be amazing, all the people being polled right now saying they would NEVER vote for her will changed their minds, and Palin will DESTROY Obama in 12.
It's THAT simple.
THERE IS NO DOWNSIDE TO PALIN RUNNING.
Speaking of the magna carta, Ironclad is a terrific new movie that deals with its signing and bloody aftermath.
I agree. Don’t Run!
SPRINT to sweep the RATs and RINOs out into oblivion!!!!
Here’s an idea, let’s run Lindsay Graham with Olympia Snowe as his VP.
What a great fussy sandwich party the Lefties and McCain would have!
I hate the Media.
CBS = Compilation of Bull S***
LOL. You should get a Deadpan Absurity prize for your work on this thread.
