LONDON (Reuters) – The Germans have been voted the world's "least funny nationality" in a global poll, which names Americans the funniest overall and the Spanish the most amusing Europeans, ahead of the Italians and French.

The social network and dating website Badoo.com asked 30,000 people across 15 countries to name both the "funniest," or best at making people laugh," and "the least funny" nationality.

Americans took the funniest prize, followed by the Spanish in second and Italians in third.

The voting for "least funny" nationality confirmed the view of American novelist Mark Twain that "a German joke is no laughing matter."

The Germans won comfortably, ahead of the Russians and Turks.

Sounds like they are laughing at us not with us.

Americans love to laugh. We laugh at ourselves and we value a good sense of humor. Since Obama has been president, though, I don’t laugh nearly as much.

Because we can laugh at ourselves it has an affect on Euros and they delight in the opportunity to drop their guard and enjoy the absurdity of this world.

Americans do have the best humor in the world. I’m not talking about stand up filth but everyday things that tickle our funny bone.

When the monster was elected, I made a comment that our humor would get us through. But like you sarah, I don’t laugh as much as I used to.

We have a kickass legacy of humor in our silent films. No other country comes close.

I never met a funny Turk in my life. Of course, I’ve never met a Turk at all.

Astute observation. And probably often true.

It's nice to see some permanence, somewhere in the world.

The Italians are the lovers
The British are the police

And the Swiss make everything run on time

Only vaguely connected to the topic, but here is the funniest joke in the world, according to Richard Wiseman of the University of Hertfordshire who studied such things in 2002:

“Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn’t seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy takes out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps: “My friend is dead! What can I do?” The operator says: “Calm down, I can help. First, let’s make sure he’s dead.” There is a silence, then a gunshot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says: “OK, now what?”

Forget the French thinking Jerry Lewis is a comic genius.
To me the highest compliment would be to be considered funny in England. I have never met a Brit who did not have a droll, wry wit and was not absolutely off his rocker at some level.
