Utility giant American Electric Power said Thursday that it will shut down five coal-fired power plants and spend billions of dollars to comply with a series of pending Environmental Protection Agency regulations.

Obviously, some people will need to live in nice houses up on the hill and oversee the nut and berry production.
“Energy prices will necessarily sky rocket”, said Obama.
Well, the next President will be elected by promising to overturn EVERY policy Obama implemented.
I’ve said for a long time these leftist elitists long for a return to feudalism.
It won’t be long now before they start working on making it illegal for “commoners” to own land.
I see this new “rural initiative” of Obama’s as a step in that direction.
Don’t forget that the $20 billion plant will produce all the power in daylight hours. You need to spend another $20 billion for the storage facility to be able to accumulate that power and dispatch it at night. So plan to spend $40 B.
Someone could truly get elected by saying
“everything he did, I’ll do the opposite”
Great... the efficiencies will go way down because the only way to store electricity is in batteries - DC,
and the only way to transmit it is AC,
so we get another 10% inverter loss at night.
BHOmo is such a Dumbass.
Welcome to Obamaville!
Well those states definitely need to pay higher prices for electricity! (sarcasm)
I just got back from a trip to Arkansas the end of February, visiting family. My cousin who has a house about the same size as ours keeps it cooled at 74-76 degrees all summer long for around $100. I live in California and our bill at 80 degrees is over $600.
Bring on the Chinese-style rolling blackouts.
Hey Wifey! Power’s on! Do the laundry, Quick!
I cannot understand how people take such things for granted, as an addition of several hundred dollars a month to the electric bill for cooling the house off.
We have a/c here, and never turn it on. Never, as in, not in several years, despite some hundred-degree days. The entire electric bill this month will not amount to a hundred dollars. One fan does all that is needed and it isn’t on often. Size of house, over 3000 sf.
I live in the central valley where we stay over 100 degrees for over a month. We have heat alert days of 114 degrees. Try doing without an air conditioner in that heat.
We also have tiered electric bills. We have a baseline number that no one can hit and then the prices keep going up from there. I think the top tier is 30 something cents per kilowatt. It’s been awhile since I looked.
We don’t take it for granted, we do everything we can to cut our bills. Our winter bill runs right at $200 and we use a pellet stove and never turn the heat on. We have installed 2 Mastercool swamp coolers to keep our summer bills down to between $300-400.
You just cant beat the bureaucrats here. PG&E just got another rate increase.
How about this, we shut the coal plants and as a saving energy method, we turn off the grid going into all the liberal cities.
>Sort of gives the old saying “will the last one out please turn off the lights” a new connotation. Unfortunately, we’ll still be here — sitting in the dark. Ayn Rand wrote a book called “Return of the Primitive”. We’re living it.<
And the EPA continues on with its Quixotic quest to save us from Carbon Dioxide. Tilting at windmills (pun very intentional).
There are a whole lot of folks who use AEP that when electric rates skyrocket after this catastrophe, will turn to their trusty wood stoves for heat.
Good move there EPA. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m sending messages of disgust to my senators, congressman and every state rep I can find.
I suggest you guys do the same. Heck, please do the same!
Power's about to go off, get ready to hit that liquor store!
Fines and penalties to rural counties hat have no significant level of manufacturing, shutting down power plants that are the only sources of power in the region, collapsing local economies, closing farming and cattle operations.
Oh... it WAS just yesterday.

And little Ø' Bammy claims he is running for reelection?
B.S. He is fleecing the dummies for their money before he is canned in 2012.
