CBS News Poll analysis by the CBS News Polling Unit: Sarah Dutton, Jennifer De Pinto, Fred Backus and Anthony Salvanto.
Most Republicans do not want to see former Alaska governor Sarah Palin enter the presidential race, a new CBS News poll finds.
Fifty-four percent of Republican registered voters want Palin to stay out of the race, as do 50 percent of Tea Party supporters. Just 34 percent of Republicans and 38 percent of Tea Party supporters want her to seek the Republican nomination. Overall, two-thirds of registered voters want Palin to stay out of the race.
Republicans are split on opinions of Palin overall: Thirty-seven percent have a favorable view, 36 percent have an unfavorable view, and 25 percent have no opinion. Her favorable rating among all voters, meanwhile, is just 21 percent, with 57 percent holding an unfavorable view.
The Republican presidential candidate with the highest net favorability rating among Republican voters is Mitt Romney, who has a 37 percent favorable rating and an 11 percent unfavorable rating. But despite Romney's relatively high profile, half say they don't know enough about him or have no opinion.

That's right. All those Tea Partiers are RINOs, as are all those people supporting Cain, or DeMint, or Pawlenty, or Santorum....
My goodness, the left is scared. I’ve never seen them so wee wee’d up over the prospect of any other person becoming president.
Great looking charts, but I seriously doubt that those numbers comport with reality, given that CBS is little more than a propaganda arm of the ruling class Socialists today.
Any fool who’s got their eyes open can see that Governor Palin remains the most popular Republican contender in the country.
I’m not completely sure of this, but I think that SeeBeeEss strongly hopes that Repubs don’t want Sarah to run.
**Go Herman!!**
When she wins in 2012, I will love seeing their heads explode! (for any liberal trolls with 8th grade educations - that’s a metaphor, I’m not actually inciting violence.)
If the democrats really think Sarah is the easiest to beat, they would want her to run. But clearly, they do NOT want her to run...
Yes, you have to ask yourself why are they running stories and polls like this?
Why?
THE MEDIA, LIBERALS, AND RINOS ARE OUTRIGHT TERRIFIED OF SARAH PALIN RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT! Otherwise they would not even bother. Polling takes effort, time and money. Hey, if she was as stupid as they are trying to make the American people believe, would they not be pushing for her to get the GOP nomination? CBS wants her no where the campaign trail because her politics and experience would destroy Obama.
Everyone needs to grasp this simple fact and not allow themselves to fall prey to propaganda tricks.
“which suggests the overall is correct, even if the numbers are slanted.”
Heresy! ALL the polls are dead wrong! It’s only the number of her Facebook friends that matters.
/sarcasm off
The republican establishment ruling class isn’t exactly behind her either. Remember what she did to them in in Alaska.
Today a Moonbat on Facebook posted a cartoon of Sarah Palin explaining the moon landing as a parody of her account of Paul Revere’s Ride. Even NPR said she was right! And he’s still going on about how stupid she is!
No, but if they don't support SARAH! then they must be RINOs nevertheless.
“CBS Poll: Most Republicans don’t want Palin to run for president”
CBS!!!Since when did they become creidible? Don’t believe it. The commies are really fearful of Sarah just as they were of Reagan, who they trashed repeatedly just like Sarah.
CBS=Can’t Be Serious
Only thing I watch on channel is Big Bang Theory.
Where did you see that? She has the highest UNfavorables...accoding to this poll, anyway.
Where was such a poll back in 2007 asking the same of Barack Obama? We could have stopped Obama’s campaign back then.
CBS News Brian Montopoli is Either Wrong or Lying About the Debt Ceiling
Brian Montopoli, the reporter, gets something amazingly wrong so amazing he either does not know what he is talking about or he is lying. In the write up of the poll, Montopoli writes, If the debt limit is not raised, the United States will default on its bonds for the first time in history.
That simply is not true. In fact it is only true if Barack Obama instructs Tim Geithner to default
I think a more accurate statement would be that most Republicans, along with people in general, are followers.
Palin is a natural charismatic leader, so if she gets in the race these polling negatives will likely turn around quick. Once officially in the race as a 1st tier candidate people will begin focusing more on her policy ideas rather than her personal life. Right now the public mostly sees her as a private individual through the prism of a media that mercilessly attacks her on an hourly basis. Being a 1st tier candidate on the stump brings immediate stature and seriousness that will help her shed a lot of the negatives polling claims she has.
this poll makes is slightly more likely that she will run, if only to flip the bird to CBS News
Where did you see that? She has the highest UNfavorables...accoding to this poll, anyway.
According to the article:
Republicans are split on opinions of Palin overall: Thirty-seven percent have a favorable view...The Republican presidential candidate with the highest net favorability rating among Republican voters is Mitt Romney, who has a 37 percent favorable rating...
She has the highest favorables...and unfavorables.
Which is not necessarily a bad thing -- because
a. It translates into the highest name recognition.
b. And unfavorable attitudes -- which have been created artificially, as we all would agree -- are subject to change and conversion.
In all honesty, despite CBS breathlessly reporting the negatives, she's in surprisingly good shape.
