Romney: 'If You Want to Learn More About My Church, Talk to My Church'
ABC The Note ^ | Emily Friedman

Posted on 06/08/2011 2:18:47 PM PDT by greyfoxx39

In an interview with CNN's Piers Morgan, the second part of which aired tonight on the network, presidential candidate Mitt Romney pushed back against the host's questions about how his Mormon faith might influence his policy should he win the White House in 2012.

Asked whether it's actually possible to separate his faith from his job as president should he be elected, Romney responded, "Absolutely. You don't begin to apply doctrines of a religion to the responsibility of guiding a nation or guiding a state."

Romney explained that he opposes abortion rights and that he is in favor of gay rights
but believes that marriage should be a union between a man and a woman.

"I'm not a spokesman for my church. And one thing I'm not going to do in running for president is become a spokesman for my church or apply a religious test that is simply forbidden by the constitution, I'm not going there," Romney said. "If you want to learn about my church, talk to my church."

-SNIP-

Morgan joked that at least the couple's Mormon faith eliminates the risk of scandal during their quest for the White House.

I don’t give a rats rectum about myths faith.

It’s his duplicity and support for the indefensible that makes him worthy of contempt and unworthy of the White House.

He’s a fun house mirror image of emperor bammy.

If he were a credible conservative, I’d be fine with his faith.

Careful what you ask for Mittens. Your church has a wacky set of doctrines that don’t set well with some people. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.....

Mitt thinks he can count on the way the mormon church is waging the internet war to see that the "ask my church" ploy will lead investigators to click on the first few links at Google...which will deliver you to a site that will tell you just what the church wants you to hear.

Being a Mormon is a problem for Romney, but not, apparently, for Dingy Harry.

Romney: 'If You Want to Learn More About My Church, Talk to My Church'

I guess that HERE is as good a place as any to START LISTENing to your 'church'!

Let's 'listen' in as the Founder of MORMONism; Joseph Smith, LISTENs to a couple of what the BIBLE describes as DEMONS...

http://scriptures.lds.org/en/js_h/1/17#17

17 It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!
18 My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)—and which I should join.
19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”
20 He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I found myself lying on my back, looking up into heaven. When the light had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I went home. And as I leaned up to the fireplace, mother inquired what the matter was. I replied, “Never mind, all is well—I am well enough off.” I then said to my mother,
“I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true.”

Must be taking lessons from mac daddy, and he want to be the POTUS.

I suppose questions like that are much to difficult for the used car salesman to answer.

I wonder what his answer would be if you ask him what his name was or would tell you to ask his wife.

Where do they find people like this who don’t want to answer simple questions?

What will he say when asked something that is really, really difficult?

Poor chose for the next POTUS.

It is just another shameless media attack to go after the guy’s church.

The 'media' is STILL mad about the 'shameless attack' IT received at the hands of Joseph Smith's thugs, that destroyed the printing press that EXPOSED his shenanigans!

re: Morgan joked that at least the couple's Mormon faith eliminates the risk of scandal during their quest for the White House.

The whole polygamy thing on Joseph Smith's part was an attempt to reduce the risk of scandal. He wanted to cheat on his wife Emma with some pretty young thing, so he claimed divine revelation from God commanding him to have more than one wife. Joseph Smith was so “obedient” to God that he managed to acquire at least 33 of them.

“Romney explained that he opposes abortion rights and that he is in favor of gay rights but believes that marriage should be a union between a man and a woman.”

But...

The SCRIPTURES that his chosen religion believes in say that "marriage should be a union between a man and a woman and a woman and a woman and a woman and a woman and a woman.”

The TRUE mormons still PRACTICE this.

The fearful ones; based in SLC; don't.

"If you want to learn about my church, talk to my church."

They would be glad to send out a couple of missionaries, with the misnomer 'elder' on their name placard to answer all of your questions.

They came to my door once and I smilingly said, "Aren't you two a little young to be elders?"

They laughed and I got them to leave by reminding them that the entire sub-division was marked as "Private Property - No Soliciating" and that the HOA (Home Owner's Association) dictated that we were not to acknowledge any one coming to our doors without an invitation, and if they persisted, just to call the sheriff.

I love that one!

The mormon bloc voting in Nevada keeps Harry in place...the mormon bloc voting in 50 states isn't enough to do the job. If it were, Mitt would be embracing instead of running away from it. The mormon church is working on that though, by embracing and enabling illegal immigration.

Sorry but I will apply that test. I will vote for a Christian or Jewish person for President. Not a mormon, JW, muzzy etc...

Hey, Romney...I don’t really care about your Mormon faith.

I care that you’re just another socialist - much like Obama except you happen to have an “R” next to your name.

You will never, ever get my vote.

re: The Mormon bloc voting in Nevada keeps Harry in place

I haven't seen anything yet that indicates the breakdown of votes by religion, but I wouldn't lay the primary blame on the Mormons for keeping Reid in power. Before the recent election I polled some of my faithful Mormon friends about the Mormon support for Harry Reid. The answer I received was that while there were some Mormons who would support Reid no matter what because he was one of them, the majority of faithful Mormons in Nevada were disgusted by Reid and wanted him out of office. Also, at the time there were other signs that Mormons were not happy with him. Here is one article: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid struggling to capture Mormon vote
http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=12885190

The primary blame for keeping Harry in place was the incredible Democrat machine utilizing all its resources including the unions and the illegal alien vote. It was amazingly effective.

Of course, Mitt doesn't mention one single thing about some new Mormon "prophet" dictating something to him that won't be made "doctrine" for 21 years after that...Joseph Smith started sleeping around with a 16 yo house servant in 1831...then he conveniently instituted polygamy to cover that up...it wasn't until 1852 when the Mormons finally had to go public with a polygamy doctrine...only after Gunnison's national book exposed them in Utah!

From the article: And one thing I'm not going to do in running for president is become a spokesman for my church

Let me get this straight...Mitt was a rep for the church...
...as a missionary in France for two years...
...then as an Lds bishop in MA for X # of years...
...then as a stake prez for the Lds church for X # of years...
...but he isn't to be id'd as a church spokesperson.

(Oh, I get it...)
