The parents of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit have change tactics and plan to file a suit in a Paris court regarding his being held as hostage. They say he may have “suffered acts of torture or of barbarism.”
Gilad Shalit is a French citizen, whose French-born parents Noam and Aviva live in northern Israel. He was kidnapped by Hamas, Army of Islam and allied terrorists five years ago this month when they attacked Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint adjacent to the Gaza region, killing two of Shalit’s comrades.
The family told the French news agency AFP it will file the suit against his “kidnapping and illegal confinement” and that he is being ”held hostage illegally.”
The legal action is intended to put more pressure on the French government to work for his release. The Shalit family has conducted a campaign, encouraged by left-wing intellectuals and activists, to pressure Israeli governments to “pay any price" for the soldier’s release.
Although Noam and Aviva a Shalit have recently blamed Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for not doing enough the win their son’s release, Ehud Olmert, who was Prime Minister when Shalit was kidnapped, stated at the time he would not meet again with Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas until Shalit was released. Under Olmert, the government rejected a Hamas proposal that Israel free 1,000 terrorists, ten of whom are serving prison terms for murdering dozens of Israelis. The Cabinet accepted security officials' warnings that releasing the terrorists to their homes in Judea and Samaria would endanger the lives of all Israelis. Previously released terrorists have returned to violence and have killed approximately 150 civilians and soldiers.

I would not pay any price to buy his freedom, but I would pay almost any price for the weapons and trained soldiers to make kidnapping expensive for the evil thugs in Hamas.
Start kidnapping high ranking Hamas officials and return them in parts.

This sounds like that idiotic post-9/11 lawsuit filed against Saudi Arabia or its ruling families in New York City. Hundreds of millions of dollars in damages were "awarded" to the plaintiffs, and not a penny has ever been seen.

Redeeming captives is nothing new in Jewish history. You do not pay “any price.” If you do, you guarantee further kidnappings in future, a prospect that leftist “intellectuals” no doubt find desirable.

[paraphrased] Arab terrorists captured nine Israeli Olympic athletes and trainers on Sept. 5, 1972. During the terrorists' exit, and as the German police bungled an attack, one of the helicopters holding the Israelis was blown up by a terrorist grenade. The remaining nine hostages in the second helicopter were shot to death by one of the surviving terrorists. All terrorists were later released by the spineless German government. An Israeli assassination squad was allegedly assigned to track the terrorists down along with those responsible for planning the massacre and may have killed eight or more of the 11 men targeted.
No terrorist or former terrorist should ever sleep in peace. As with the Nazis who were hunted for decades, these vermin should be hunted until they are exterminated. No forgiveness, no survivors, and no negotiations should be an absolute policy.

Interesting, I didn't know he was a French citizen. France hasn't said a word. Were he American, the response wouldn't be much different.
