Regarding Palin's Indecision: Maybe She's Telling the Truth
Real Clear Politics ^ | 06/06/2011 | Scott Conroy

The first leg of Sarah Palin's nationwide bus tour may have raised more questions about her political future than it answered, but one inference is no longer in doubt: She is having fun.

At just about every stop she made along her East Coast jaunt, the former Alaska governor took in the scenery, chatted amiably with locals, signed autographs and always seemed to have a smile on her face while she was doing it. And whenever members of the "lamestream media" shoved audio recorders and video cameras in her face, Palin cheerfully and thoroughly answered our questions, often lingering far longer than her small team of aides and daughter Piper would have liked.

"This week of touring was one of the best weeks of my life," Palin told Fox News Channel's Sean Hannity at the conclusion of the trip. "The fire in the belly -- it rages on."

Many of Palin's fervent supporters have taken comments like this as proof that she has already decided to run for president.

SNIP SNIP

Comments like that provide Palin skeptics with "aha!" moments that confirm their belief -- steadfastly adhered to since her 2009 resignation as governor -- that her only interest is in making money and boosting her celebrity and that the presidential feelers are mere ploys to keep the media's attention focused on her.

But perhaps there is a simple answer to whether Palin will run that neither her most ardent fans nor her inside-the-Beltway critics seem to fathom: She truly hasn't decided yet.

"But I know that you can make a difference as an individual. I think I've proven that, and hopefully I can inspire others to know you don't need a title. You don't need to be in office in order to effect positive change."

Message: When I'm president, the government is going to be A LOT smaller. But that is OK because we will empower citizens to run their own lives and make a real difference in their community. We don't need Big Government. We need active citizens.

Sarah asks us to take her at her word. There is no other politician that expects listeners to accept statements at face value. The Power Of Palin is her word and it is golden.

Completely on the far outside without a scintilla of insider information, it sure looks to me like she’s planning, and looking forward to, a run. But until she actually declares she’s smartly keeping her options open.

Geez. No matter what she does, both sides say it is proof of their prognostications. It looks like this writer is putting Palin in the "empty vessel" category. If you hate her, she is saying everything that says she isn't running. If you love her, she is running. This is ridiculous. Just let the lady do her thing and she will eventually let us know what she wants to do.

It looks like she is planning a run but hoping a real conservative will break out before she has to declare. Meanwhile, she is preparing so that she isn't behind if she jumps in the race, not to mention that it's easier to campaign effectively if she isn't an official candidate, so the delay is not hurting so long as she is working on the caucus states too. My suspicion is that no conservative can break out with her in the picture, so she will be running, but I have no inside information either.

She is smarter than a fox. The Liberal media are salivating to pounce on her. She makes them run, and run to chase her - wearing them out en mass. She calls them "Paparazzi" and the truth be told, they are worse than that.

Ever since the media slimed Trig Palin in order to attack Sarah - I believe the Mainsteam media's days are numbered. And I rejoice every time she pokes them in the eye like this. They deserve it for what they've done to her.

I don’t see that she thinks there’s a conservative who could or would make the aggressive case for her vision and against Obama that she would.

I don’t believe for a minute that she’s hoping someone else will be where she belongs.

BTW, just as an example of what Palin is dealing with in the media, this guy gets as many scoops from her as anyone (and is as fair as anyone with the MSM).

Yet, on Sunday afternoon he tweeted to the journalist Lynn Sweet, who had just appeared on Reliable Sources that she had made a ‘good point’. Her point? That Palin had got wrong which side of the war Paul Revere was on.

Yes sir, that you don’t need a title and you don’t need to be in office!! That is just meaningless side chatter.

What ‘indecision’?????????????????

Has Sarah said anything that can be construed as ‘Maybe I will, maybe I won’t, I cannot make up my mind???

That’s indecision!!!

Not saying anything is NOT! Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh!

It was a ‘dry run’ without all the trappings of providing an advance schedule.

She’s decided that she doesn’t need, or have use for, “handlers”.

She’s decided that she will campaign ‘everywhere’, and no state or area will be ‘off-limits’, unlike the short-sightnedness of McCain and his ‘guru’ campaign advisers that was demonstrated by their ‘giving up’ Michigan during the 2008 Presidential campaign.

Actually, I think Sarah Palin has NOT decided to run yet. She is in a holding pattern...she has everything set up to run....she is watching and waiting to see who is in the GOP field of candidates....if they do not immediately start to level the left and especially the illegal alien...she WILL JUMP IN. She a fighter and will step up to the plate...and start kicking A’s...

Good observation.

I find Palin very fresh and natural. She is a real person. Most politicians are extremely packaged -- professional speech writers, teleprompters, photo ops, all of that. I think people are hungry for a real person -- one who understands what real life is like -- and I think you are correct: Palin has confirmed that she can do this without handlers.

People are going to like this.

I don’t believe for a minute that she’s hoping someone else will be where she belongs.

I disagree. With Palin, I make an assumption that I rarely make with politicians, the mirror image of the assumption I make with Obama and with Clinton (with both of whom I always assume they lie, even when the truth would help them more). Let's assume that Palin is telling the truth. She really would like to have America saved by a charismatic American who believes in the Constitution, freedom, and individual rights. She also really would like to spend as much time as possible with her adorable family. Both assumptions are 100% consistent with everything she has said and with everything she has done. It makes sense in that case that she would prefer to see DeMint, Bachmann, or Cain emerge as a solid front runner. It's not going to happen with her on the radar, and she may not realize the degree to which she dominates in the conservative wing of the party, but I believe she is sincere.

Palin: "I’ve said before that George Washington is my favorite Founding Father because he was reluctant to serve, and yet he rose to the great challenges before him. I can certainly see why he dreaded leaving his home on the Potomac. His servant's heart is an inspiration to us all."

Palin: "When I first visited Gettysburg years ago, I was overwhelmed with the sense of sacrifice made to secure our union, but my most recent visit this morning was even more significant as subsequent visits allow reflection on the state of our union today. Striking to me is how ready and willing troops and civilians were in 1863 to lay their lives on the line. Are we as ready and willing to accept the call for sacrifice today in order to keep our union secure?"

These are the words of a thoughtful person who cares about America (possibly helped by a great writer, I'll admit), but not the words of a person who has the lust for power of Romney or the consuming need to control others of Hillary and Obama.

You are aware that Sarah Palin got it right on Paul Revere?

She was dead on accurate with her history.

The MSM is responding to the Longfellow poem about the ride of Revere that had to do with something else.

The other thing the MSM is responding to is that Palin used a slightly hesitant style in discussing American History with that reporter, probably because she is unsure of how much actual US History the MSM understands.
