Is it appropriate to be focusing on a presidential candidate's religion in 2011?
Newsweek certainly thinks it is, and created a cover for its June 13-20 issue prominently highlighting Mitt Romney being a Mormon in a fashion that is guaranteed to raise a few eyebrows:
What you probably can't make out is the following at Romney's right bicep: Yes, it says, "Mitt Romney, Mormon for President!"
Not very subtle, is it?
The image led Real Clear Politics' Tom Bevan to tweet Sunday, "This leaves me dumbfounded."
In fairness to Newsweek, this cover is a parody of the poster of the Broadway show "The Book of Mormon" as marvelously discovered by my Twitter pal @ClericalGal.
But is this an appropriate way to introduce a serious presidential candidate to your readers?
He is a Warmin’ Mormon.

Is it true ???
Well then why not ???
It would be appropriate, it Mittens was a serious candidate, but he isn’t.
It’s part of the Myth.
Better to get his Mormonism out now, before he’s the nominee, and the press goes full bore with it.
It’s a double standard you ditz. They didn’t do this to obama.
To all those who in the past have claimed Mitt’s Mormonism should not affect their decision on him, here ya go. As I have said repeatedly, Mormonism is a religion of works, not grace (hence Romneycare follows as busybody good works). That’s the only way to ‘get your planet’, so religion is inextricably tied to the political ideology of Mitt Romney, and Harry Reid for that matter.
I’m not a bigot, I just don’t like liberals.

I would never become a Mormon, but I have has worked with Mormons (not the polygamous sect mind you) and they are some of the nicest to work with people I have ever known.
These are mainstream Mormons, and while they may believe in Kolob and special undergarments they are not bad people, they seem to have a good family focus and all that. They are definitely 1000% better than any of the militant atheists and militant democrats I have worked with.
We shouldn’t be using Romney’s Religion to tear him down, they should be using his spineless RINO-ism to tear him down.
Oh yeah.
Hey Newsweak, Bite me. LOL

The few people still working at Snooze Weak aren’t bright enough to realize that Mitt Romneycare isn’t running fo a church office.
I thought freedom of religion was a right in this country.?
Yes, indeed. The MSM will prop him up as the "only" republican candidate that is viable, but will simultaneously try to discourage anyone who might vote for him. Divide and conquer.
This is why I laugh at the morons who say Palin is “unelectable.” And folks like Mitt and Pawlenty are somehow “electable.”
She’s been trashed for 3 years and is still standing. The others haven’t been touched.
And what they did to Mitt here (which is so biased it’s not even up for debate) is just an appetizer.
The lib media will trash anyone, and everyone, who stands in the way of Obama.
Every time I get my “Snoozeweak” offer, with a prepaid postage envelope, I send back an empty envelope. Makes me feel sooooo good.
My guess is that the odds are still very much against Romney capturing the Republican nomination, because of the suspicions conservatives have of him, but if he were to be the nominee, he would lose millions of votes from people who would otherwise be inclined to vote for the Republican nominee, simply because of his religion.
With that hint of what guides Romney, it is important to note that he is also not actually pro-life yet the tenets of Mormon belief range in that direction, so he is not even a solid adherent to his own confessed religion! Such duplicity in a politician is not new, but it is worth noting that he is not what he pretends to be. I would find it interesting to see what percentage of Momron votes went to Romney in Utah, for instance.
