Ross Perot the Tea Party and the GOP Political Elite
vanity | 6.4.11 | vanity

Posted on 06/04/2011 12:25:53 PM PDT by rface

Dare I say it? I voted for Ross Perot…..twice……I was a Tea Partier Then, and I am a Tea Partier now.

Back in the older days, I wasn’t going to vote for the DC Establishment Candidate (first GHW Bush then Dole), I was going to vote for the candidate that was going to help make America Fiscally healthy…..and the people of America were going to help make America Morally Healthy.

I was an enthusiastic supporter of Perot, and I know now that this is the same type of enthusiasm that is driving the Tea Party today. A weird fact…..many Tea Partiers, who are old enough, have been asked by me if they voted for Perot back in the days of Papa Bush v Clinton v Perot….then Bob Dole v Clinton v Perot…..and a surprising number of them quickly, and without embarrassment say, “Yes – I voted for Ross Perot”

There were few days left. Election Day loomed on the horizon. GW Bush was running the 1st time, against Gore, and the rac was neck and neck. One of the big questions, was “since Perot is not running, Who is Perot going to publicly support? If I remember right, Perot was doing a Larry King interview….and there where many minds (including Rush Limbaugh) convinced that Perot was going to endorse Gore. I would have been floored if he actually had endorsed Gore…..BUT , Perot enthusiastically endorsed GW Bush.

As a former Perot supporter and two-time voter, I was expecting Perot (NOT hoping) that Perot would indeed endorse GW Bush. Limbaugh was shocked! I tell you he was SHOCKED!!!. Limbaugh was then, an “Inside-the-beltway, Official GOP insider”

Throughout the Clinton years Limbaugh et al. hammer the Perot voters for giving America 8 years of Clinton and Lewinski and Gore and all the messes that came with those times. These were the days that Limbaugh openly carried the “establishment GOP water” and fed it to his listeners through a siphon hose…. Since those days, and since Limbaugh’s hearing loss and drug problems, he has PUBLICLY STATED that he is no longer going to be carrying the GOP water……so now Limbaugh openly says that the GOP establishment wants “we the people” to vote for the GOP Political Insiders…..I say screw that! I agree with Limbaugh - SCREW the DC Insiders! They care about POWER not America.

I will not vote for a Bob Dole – or a McCain or any wishy-washy republican. I want a candidate with courage and a vision and a plan to make and keep America great.

There are several candidates that I might consider later on, but I am now recalling the days before the Tea Party, when the Perot Tea Partiers pushed back against the DC Insider elites.

I was a Tea Partier then and I am a Tea Partier now. I voted for Ross Perot.

Bush was a Bush hating RINO.

I also was disappointed with many things both Bushes did so I'll give you the RINO part. But Perot's whole mind set was to spoil the election, and he did it. Clinton claimed a mandate with only 49%.

If you vote, you are always voting for the lesser of two evils. There is no perfect candidate.

Definist fallacy FAIL. Refusing to vote for "the lesser of two evils" =/= "seeking perfect candidate." Thanks for playing.

“A candidate that does not agree with me on every issue is not by definition the lesser of two evils. The lesser of two evils is by definition evil. “

Then everyone is evil and you can’t vote for anybody.

Interesting interpretation.

What part of "A candidate that does not agree with me on every issue is not by definition the lesser of two evils." do you not get, eh?

The Tea Party and Palin are the only reason that our PINO didn’t win even bigger. The Leftist Machine went into hyperwarp to ensure the coronation of Barry Soetoro. Stupid states like Michigan still have open primaries, so RINOs always win the nominations due to the Dems & Mods crossing over.

If the Tea Party does field a viable candidate, the conservative vote will be split and the USURPER will remain in office. I voted for Perot as well, and knowing what I know now, I am still not sure if it was the wrong thing to do. The Bushes are just as much a part of the NWO as Clinton and Soetoro. However, Soetoro has succeeded in waking up the American people as to what is at stake, even though the Bushies and McCain agree with most of Soetoro’s agenda.

All street theater, I am sad to say.

Tea Party and Ross Perot? You mean that guy that was a pro choice activist, promoted more powerful central bank intervention, expand government power to intervene in the market, stronger federal involvement in private businesses, increase federal gas tax by 50 cents per gallon, eliminate electoral college, mandate free air time to candidates, enact strict gun control laws, consider VAT tax, raise marginal tax rates on the 'wealthy', use power of government to redistribute wealth to close gap between rich and poor, enact federal tax on tobacco to create a "big pool of money", etc.

Dare I say it? I voted for Ross Perot…..twice……I was a Tea Partier Then, and I am a Tea Partier now. Sounds like you all would be the TPINOs of the Tea Party movement.

"...and that is the reason why Obama is our president.

John McCain and the GOP leadership who spoon fed our candidate to us are the reason Obama is in the Whitehouse. do it again and he'll be reelected.

Ok, here is Romney - there is Rick Perry (for example).

If you voted for Perry, you’d be voting for the lesser of two evils, right? Because although his stands/history are better than Romney, he has his issues. (forced vaccinations, border equivocation).

“You are only voting for the lesser of TWO(2) evils when you feel forced to choose between only TWO(2) candidates and not whom you feel is the best candidate.”

That’s one way of looking at it.

However, if I support Romney against Obama, I believe many on FR would accuse me of voting for the lesser of two evils.

I’d say back that he is the better candidate of the two.

If I support Pawlenty over Romney in the primary, I believe many on FR would accuse me of voting for the lesser of two evils.

I’d say back that Pawlenty is the best candidate in the primary.

And so on.

If you say you won’t vote for the lesser of two evils, then I guess you need to define “evil.” Many opposed me for voting for McCain. He was wrong on some important issues and had some bad history (as well as plenty of good history). But I proudly voted for him and would do so again. He was the far better candidate.

I’ve given a lot of thought to 2012.

The only thing holding the gop back is the urge to put a rino in office.

If it looks like there’s no conservative in the race, Sarah says she will run.

Gop is on notice.
I just want a true conservative to run.

And thank you for being sarcastic!

Don't want your freshly-cobbled straw men set aflame: don't leave them within easy match range. ;)

A straw man is a great candidate. He never disagrees with a thing you say. He is all things to all people. In short, the perfect candidate.

Obviously I don’t think I created a straw man.

I believe that when you cast a vote, you are casting for the lesser of two evils every time.

Because there is no perfect candidate, in my opinion.

If the admirably concise description of the (sadly) all-too-common logical error, definist fallacy, was not helpful to you... then: there's really no other assistance I can be reasonably expected to offer, in this particular instance.

Again: Refusing to vote for "the lesser of two evils" =/= "seeking perfect candidate." Period. End of sentence. End of paragraph.

Either one "gets" it, ultimately, or they do not.

Oh well, I guess I am stupid.

Don’t vote for Reagan! He signed the abortion authorization act while Governor in California. Also, did a huge illegal amnesty program. Evil, I’d say. Were I to support him against Carter I am sure I’d be continually labelled as a “RINO.”

If you believe that "Refusing to vote for 'the lesser of two evils' = 'seeking perfect candidate'"... then: yes.

If not... then: no.

Yes, I do believe that.

Because there is some “evil” to every candidate.
