"Americans break into two roughly evenly matched camps on the question of whether the government should enact heavy taxes on the rich to redistribute wealth in the U.S. Forty-seven percent believe the government should redistribute wealth in this way, while 49% disagree, similar to views Gallup found four years ago."

It might be best for you personally, in the short term, but it would do nothing for the nation, and you know what they say about "when good men do nothing."
Is there anyone, anyone out there who speaks for us?
Maybe they're doing just what you propose.
Why not take the anger to a protest, or write some letters to your legislators rather than to the cyber choir. Beyond the internet, that anger can actually lead to action and good results.
People ought to be more involved, not less.
If injustice makes you angry, it should. Don't turn away. When Lady Liberty is running like Kitty Genovese, shutting the windows doesn't help her.
While they may need to be phased out, these older/greedy/selfish folks had no choice but to pay for their entire lives, with the expectation that they would get what was promised. Money that could have been saved/invested was taken from their pay and was figured into their retirement years. It's a crap-shoot about whether they take more out than they put in, but if they had the opportunity to invest it their whole lives, they could be wealthy and independent, or be broke - either way they would have had a choice. To deny those of a certain age of their rightful due is more insanely selfish than those you rant about.
If you make lay away payments for a big screen TV at Wal-Mart, then are told to suck it up because the rules have changed, I'm sure you would also turn into a greedy selfish bastard and insist on getting what you paid for.
The headlining acts for the “Liberal White Guilt Tour”.
It’s *easy* to promote ‘distribution of wealth’ when you’re filthy rich.
Sure. I'd never let my family go hungry to make a political point. But if we're doing fine financially, I may not go that extra step to work 10 more hours if I can't get 10 hours worth of pay from it. If I'm only going to realize 5 hours worth of pay for 10 hours work, it becomes MUCH less appealing.
That is why I hope we collapse at this point. We deserve it and earned it with the type of thinking that we should just continue these ponzi schemes at the expense of young and working people.
Very true, the seniors today ARE entitled to what they were promised by the banditos of the ruling class.
The scheme needs to be stopped. Stopped from creating fresh victims. Starting now, we should assure those who’ve been vampirized, “You’ll get returns commensurate with what you were forced to pay,” while taking the pledge to rob and raid no more.
You are probably thinking, “That’ll never happen.” Two ways to make it happen: widespread tax rebellion (”You’re cut off!”) and protest demonstrations (”And we mean it!”)
Which is to say, if nothing is done, it isn’t the legislators we should blame. It’s us. It isn’t their spinelessness. It’s ours.
LLS
I've been convinced of that for a couple of years.
Prepare now.
“Those who rob Peter to pay Paul can always count on Pauls vote.”
Exactly. But it is also true that eventually ‘you reap what you sow’.
I can only hope.
The biggest problem is the seniors fully trusted the govt and trusted Liberal dem’cats who even today continue to stand by these proven ponzi schemes.
Liberals Lie, and everything Liberals touch and really want have a 100% failure rate...without exception.
Walmart layaway-—not so much.
If a politician says he is going to downsize government we all nod our heads in solemn agreement and then cut off the head of any politician in the next election who actually does it.
We have gotten to the point in this country where a majority of politicians don’t want to the general public to feel ANY pain whatsoever. No doubt this is for fear they will lose their jobs. But the end result is that we are destroying our future by trying to keep ourselves content in the short term.
Well said, trebb! (refer to post #13)
Younger people being envious or angry that seniors want and expect to collect their promised Social Security after a lifetime of forced contributions to the fund, are as guilty as the liberal’s wealth envy.
The government stole those funds over the years and used them for vote buying schemes. Rather than directing anger at the seniors, it would be better to direct anger at the government and expect it to pay back what they stole. A good start at paying back the looted fund would be to stop sending massive amounts of “aid” money to counties who hate us anyway.
OOps... I meant trebb’s post #11 that answered post #13
those making the big noise on this issue are non-white, democrats who make less than $30K a year. Why does no one raise the issue of greed among the poor?Nay, nay. It's not greed. It's that they just want 'fairness'.
After all, with Section Eight Housing Vouchers, Free medical care via Medicaid, Free Food 'Stamps', three Free Meals a day in school, and 'general assistance' for each on her Eight children -- after getting them all the mandatory $150 sneakers, that 55" Plasma TV with Surround Sound, and the iPads, iPods, and 17" Screen Laptops for the older kids. When all is said and done, Momma, can barely keep up the payments on her Caddy Escalade. Heck, she even had to 'save' some of her 'own money' to buy those custom 24" chrome wheels with spinners. HER OWN MONEY, dang it. Where's the justice and fairness in that?
So at the current rate how do you expect her to ever get that Bentley she so richly 'deserves'. It just ain't 'fair', darn it.
You bet ya.
We call the Leftist “poor”, the “gimme girls.”
They have no idea that when the government takes money from “the rich” (anyone who earns more than the poor) they do not re-distribute that money to the poor.
They spend it to enhance their political power among the “rich” leftist pet projects and more bureaucrats. The poor see very little, if any, of the stolen loot.
This is what Americans finally realized in the 80’s. The rich is anyone with money to be stolen, and the poor are left wing activists. Normal people never see the loot but are looted after every election.
Hey Nikos,
I’m with you 100% on this one.
I’m getting angrier every day as well.
THROW THEM ALL OUT!
“90% of the millionaires got there by working 70-80 hours per week and managing their money for circa 20 years according to a NBC report a few years back. This person was modest in their lifestyle not having a flashy car nor having an expansive home.”
You are absolutely right. In Jan 2009 the bottom fell out of my wife’s business and she let go her 5 employees. She says she will never be able to hire another due to the new health care and unemployment benefits. So now she does the work of 6.
I used to work a couple of jobs plus a lot of outside consulting. No more, just enough to stay under the big “progressive” tax hikes. The problem is what is happening to our retirement. It is being crushed by the fluctuations in the market and the fear of future taxes.
So instead of retiring at 59, now it looks like 66, largely because of medical concerns and fear of being taxed to death, literally. People in their early fear suffer from free floating anxiety and fear of the future. Thanks, Onumbnuts, Pelosi and Reid.
Break the nation in to smaller parts. Texas as a new independent nation, and the US South as another. Cut the rest loose and watch them rot.
