You struck gold with that site, and so did I. Turns out, not only did Ken Curtis (”Festus”) grow up in a jail not 100 miles from Dodge City, and his Dad was sheriff of Bent County, Colorado, but he had a brother named Chester!

I remember “Them”, and really liked the movie, but don’t recall having watched the “Thing” with him in it. I have watched the Curt Russell “Thing” version, though. Thanks for the information.

Gunsmoke was my Grandfather's favorite show...

Gunsmoke was one of the very first shows I saw on TV....back in the 50's. Damn! I'm getting old....

Hollywood! I don’t live far from the base, and the elevation out there is around sea level. Highest point at N.A.S. has to be the old light house, which I believe is just under 200 feet elevation.

Highest area near Dodge City must be the bluff. I think “Little House on the Prairie” was also filmed in the same area they used for “Gunsmoke”. Both series were, topographically, a darn mess.

Festus for sure. I agree about Chester being too whiney. Also on the wimpy side.

Glad you enjoyed it. When you have time check out that other site I linked to earlier, The Old Corral. It has a lot of neat stuff about the old Westerns and the actors.

Both series were, topographically, a darn mess.

As most Westerns from Hollywood. That's because most were filmed in Southern California. The Lone Pine wilderness East of the Sierras was a favorite location as well as other sites nearer Hollywood.

I recall the movie "The Searchers" with John Wayne. It was supposed to be in West Texas after the Civil War. But it was filmed in Monument Valley, AZ which is nothing like West Texas. I've been to Monument Valley. That's not farm country.

Very sad. I grew up watching James Arness back in the days when we had only 4 TV stations and families would sit down to watch TV together. May he enjoy eternal peace.

We just got Antenna TV in Chicago, as one of the WGN Channel 9 digital channels. So far, I’ve watched only The Three Stooges and Benny Hill.

Yes, it’s sad, but I like how we’re all gathering together here.

You never saw his face, he was just made up as the alien. His height worked for that role. Alien liked to catch humans and string them up to drain the blood, IIRC.
